The concept behind it is simple. Series connection will increase the final DC voltage while keeping the DC current the same as if it was a single panel = 10 amperes. This is easier to transport via wires compared to if you connected it in parallel then your current will be 10 * 18 = 180 amperes, which is a lot and the wire will need to be ridiculously large diameter from the panels to the inverter, which will be indoors maybe one floor below. That's a long thick cable which is expensive and ugly. It may overheat and melt. Hence series connection is used. Series connection is where you connect the negative terminal of one panel to the positive of the next and the negative of that to the positive of the 3rd panel and goes on like that. In the end you get the positive of the very first panel and negative of the last panel, you connect those to the inverter.
