I was at Passion. And John Piper was the ONLY one who spoke on the Reality of Christ and Reality of sin and Hell. Piper brought the Gospel

When asked "how do you fight/cure anxiety" you answer with getting rid if Insta is a good thing, that is the opposite of the Gospel because nowhere did you ever say get on your knees and pray to our Father, or resting in the assurance of Christ's sacrifice on the cross, it's just "no instagram is the cure" NO!!!!!! Jesus is the cure and that's what needed to be said
In all honesty, I didn’t enjoy Passion. All the speakers felt like they were pushing this free grace Gospel we speak of, but also, there never seemed to be any repentance, and as if Hell is only a figment of our imagination. Like Hell is just invisible and it’s not “really a thing.” That’s why I enjoyed Piper so much more than all the other “speakers.” I’m not a fan of someone speaking from their heart for 25 minutes, slapping a Bible verse in the middle or at the beginning, and calling it a Sermon. That’s simply not what a Sermon or a Pastor is.

@@skafan89 If your referring to his Calvinistic views, I don't agree with everything they teach but I wouldn't say he's preaching a false gospel because then that would make him a wolf and I just don't believe that he is. He does a great job expounding scripture and exalting Christ in ways that many don't. We can agree to disagree. Have a good night and Gbu.

Other men I respect are Charles Spurgeon, John MacArther, Paul Washer and Alistair Begg and they are all Calvinist to some degree. But now that we're here, my favorite preachers are not Calvisistic such as Leonard Ravenhil, A.W. Tozer, David Wilkerson and Zac Poonen. I do get where you're coming from because about 6 yrs ago I felt the same way.

Thomas J I believe what a person must to to be saved is repent of their sin and believe in Jesus, which is basically the common theme of every gospel message recorded in Acts.

As for do I believe in “once saved always saved”, I would have to say it depends what you mean by that. But I will say I wholeheartedly believe what Jesus said in John 4:35-40.
I don’t really have a problem with piper not using a special formula of words to describe it as Jesus described how one should consider the kingdom of God and entering it in a lot of different ways...

I used to be a 5 point Calvinist and listen to pipers sermons, dozens of them and dozens of ask pastor John q&a. Anything the man said I took for gold without question. Thus the problem.
Once I learned more about what the gospel is and isn’t through hermeneutic study and time out in the mission field,
I noticed one day listening to Piper how completely off course he is. Most of the topics he covers BESIDES the gospel are sound, which makes him even more dangerous as it lends credibility to his false teaching when he does cover how to be saved.
First we need to understand salvation by its very definition is a rescue of your soul. You have no part in rescuing yourself, ok? Get over it. You’re drowning like Peter, you shout “Lord save me!”
And HE and HE alone pulls you out and sets you in the boat. If you dare to think “oh well I’ve got to also add my work of turning from sin or doing this or doing that,” YOU ARE INSULTING THE BLOOD OF CHRIST and saying “it wasn’t enough” because you’re adding to HIS rescue of your soul and thus taking from His glory! “It is finished” means it is finished!
Oh little children, how many times did the Master warn you against the yeast of the Pharisees? And yet here we are. The bread has risen instead of Christ in your heart!
There is no “final salvation” in the way John means it-where he teaches that you must keep up good works and holy loving until you die because then there will be some sort of judgment to determine if you were a true believer where apparently believe means work. No.
You don’t add an iota to what the Lord of Lords did on the cross 2000 years ago. His rescue was complete to cleanse you of all iniquity. You’re trying to finish cleaning with a filthy rag and are making yourself dirtier!
Piper can’t quote you bible verses to support his position of this “future judgement” because they don’t exist! What IS said is that though a man’s works are tested by fire and all should burn, the man HIMSELF shall still be saved yet as though through fire, (1 cor 3) meaning he will hav NO extra reward in eternity but still has eternal life with God in a peaceful new world.
There is the BEMA seat judgment of believers to see about what rewards they will receive and there is the great white throne judgment of nonbelievers which sentences them to Hell. Piper has fused the two! He takes verses and rips them out of context like “without holiness no man shall see the kingdom.”
Well for one I’m holy because Holy means to be set aside by God. I was set aside by God IN CHRIST (my identity is in Him his work his resurrection his cross) the moment I trusted Him to save me. I have holiness through faith.
BUT. That’s not actually what this passage means, it’s talking about not letting a bitter root spring forth and defile many. It means without you living holy lives no man shall see the kingdom! Do you get it yet?
It’s about being a witness of the kingdom so that men see Christ in you! If you don’t live like you should, as we all don’t at times, then those men won’t see the kingdom through you! It’s not saying that saved children of God are put on trial based on “personal holiness!”
Ephesians 2:8 says it is by grace you HAVE BEEN SAVED. Through faith. And this is NOT of yourselves. It s the GIFT (see free) of God, NOT BY WORKS lest any man should boast.
Yet piper says you’re not saved yet. That is to be determined. Determined upon YOUR works and performance. Oh, he’ll sing like a catholic of infused grace that empowers you to finish the work Christ didn’t finish, so really “it’s not works.” Come on. Really?

The gospel isn't complicated. We don't always feel "Christian" because our hearts are deceitful. This is a faith thing

I was talking about feelings vs. the reality of our faith which is our confidence in Christ not our flesh. The reason being many Christians don't always feel victorious (Christlike) but we are according to the word of God not our "feelings"

True preaching is being the mouthpiece of God; as a town crier proclaims the message of the King. Thank you, John Piper. He really is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.

I suppose we are - since God is never held ultimately responsible as blamed (or morally incongruent) for human sin, rebellion, and despondency against him. Perhaps - in the ultimate sense, then - it really is our responsibility to fully place our trust in Jesus Christ to meet our needs and be our ultimate source of satisfaction & joy (which was the case before the fall; 2 Peter 1:3). What are your thoughts?
@@michaelswain6125 Hi, In response to your answer my thoughts are...What happens to "saved by grace" then? Or what happens to all the Scriptures that tell us we can receive nothing unless it is given to us from heaven/God? (John 3:27, 1 Cor 4:7, Phil 1:29, etc., etc.)
If it's our responsibility then we're saved because of us, not because of Him.
The next implication to consider is...if it's all because of Him, could anyone possibly be left out?

If they allowed 50-somethings to be at Passion I would have been there. Loved the line-up and l love John Piper. We all need ALL of the Gospel, even the parts we would rather not think about, or share about.

I so appreciated John Piper’s sermons when I returned back to the Lord. I was blessed by his amazing passion for Christ and he’s still on fire for God. I love his books and we are so blessed to have this man of God in our presence. I do pray many will see this message as it has been one that needs to be shared widely. Even Though we fail, if we are Truly Born Again, we are washed clean from all Unrighteousness by the Blood Sacrifice of Yeshua.
As far as us being the generation of His return is hard to say, There are Definitely signs all around us leading up to it, but remember in Yahweh's timing a day can be a thousand years, only the Father knows. The Key is Israel and what is happening there, the 3rd Temple, Restoration of the Promised Land, the Witnesses, Israel being attacked on all 4 sides, all of it. For me, the cosmological, fine tuning, moral, and arguments for the resurrection are probably the absolute best. I can't do a great treatise of all of them, so I am going to share a simple line of reasoning and then share links that will explain each in a way I think you, as an atheist, would really appreciate.
Everything that begins to exist has a cause. Science shows us the universe had a beginning billions of years ago at the big bang. So, therefore, the universe has a cause. The reasoning is pretty good. Why? Because of the law of causality. An effect cannot be its own cause. It is literally nonsense to believe the universe created itself, and it's unscientific - any atheist who believes that is believing that based on a blind Faith and a desire to deny God's existence, rather than because it is rational - it is infact irrational.
Now, what IS this cause? Well, it would have to be OUTSIDE of space and time, since, from what can deduce, there was no space and time before the big bang. It's outside the natural realm...oh wait, that's what supernatural means at the most basic level. This cause has to be personal cause it needs to have a will to create. It has to be intelligent because of how expansive and enormous and majestic the universe is, and because of how it has been wired for life on this Earth and possibly other planets. It would also need to be very powerful to create the universe. So we have a personal, powerful, supernatural cause that exists in its own dimension outside of space and time. That sounds a LOT like God.
Then I'd argue for morality. You already know God exists. Most of your morality, if you're the average human being, actually makes NO SENSE on atheism. Why would murder be wrong if the person is simply acting out in the natural processes that determine how they behave? If only nature exists, then morality does not, but survival of the fittest is the rule. We can do as we please for our survival, and there's no truly objective standard we can be held to. But in Christianity, there is a God who has put a moral law in our hearts, one that even your atheist progressive tries to live by 😃.
Finally I'd argue for the resurrection but that's a more complex argument since you have to deal with whether the Bible can be trusted, the accounts, etc. I get your skepticism. Don't feel bad for being skeptical. You should only feel bad if you're not willing to engage arguments and evidence that contradicts you. This is why I will even listen to internet atheists, who are insufferable in comparison to more thoughtful atheist scholars and academics.

John Piper’s greatest desire is to die to self and live for God. He is a very Godly man. He prayed, “Father, I ask now that the miracle of the new birth, the miracle of the awakening of a supreme desire for Jesus above all things would before be granted to thousands”. And later he told those at the Passion Conference, “I am praying for you that your greatest desire would be for Yahweh, Jesus.”
“If you don’t desire it [to completely desire God], you won’t have it. To be born again is to taste that God is more to be desired than anything. That’s what it means to be born again.” [Those of you who are part of the Elect are wakened up so that you now desire God more than anything. Of course, not everyone can be awakened, only those who were chosen by God before the foundations of the world can be awakened (born again).
I wish Pastor John Piper would have been more upfront with his listeners. He is one of the leading scholars and proponents of Calvinism but for some reason shied away from how and why God awakens only certain individuals. I believe Pastor Piper could told those at the conference that it is God who creates in His Chosen Ones the desire to love Him. It is God who gives you the desire. He changed you so you could love Him. This prevents any of the Elect from taking credit for his/her salvation. Pastor Piper knows that God had chosen before the foundations of the world those who would be saved. They are His Elect and God, at the proper time, will awaken each elect person and change his desires so that he will now love God. And he prays for those elect persons who have already been awakened to be renewed in their desire to please God.
At birth every person is a sinner, a hater of God, and can do no good but only evil. But God will, sometime in the Elect person’s life awaken him so that he can now love God. The eternal destiny of every human being was determined before the foundations of the world. Many were chosen to be part of the Elect, but the vast majority were not chosen. And since they were not chosen, they are destined to spend eternity in hell. So, Christ died on the cross not for everyone but just for the Elect. And those who had been called to be part of the Elect are foreordained to be saved. God has chosen them and changed them to love Him. They can’t but love Him. The non-elect, they are foreordained to hell. That is Calvinism. But there is a better way of understanding the Scripture and seeing that God desires everyone to be saved but also know that His grace can be resisted. God has given everyone a free will to accept or reject Him. Those who accept Him receive eternal life. We know that “the gift of God is eternal life” (and I don’t boast or take credit for a gift - I simply praise God for such a wonderful gift)! Those who reject are punished for their own sins and will spend an eternity in hell. They are there by their own choice, not because God didn’t desire their salvation. Investigate. Search the Scriptures. Pastor Piper, please correct me if I’m wrong and show me where I misinterpret Calvinism.

Folks, rest in the knowledge of a successful Saviour who was sent to be the Saviour of the world, who died for the sin of the world and actually is the saviour of the world. 'Behold I bring you glad tidings (Greek word is the same word for evangel or gospel) of great joy which SHALL BE FOR ALL PEOPLE. Respond by loving God and your neighbor and stop believing the nonsense that the vast majority of God's creation (Billions of people) will be lost in eternal concious suffering with no hope. God is able to save to the uttermost (the end). Could the judgments of God be for a purpose? Could His judgments be used to correct us? Could the fire of God be used for purification as gold and silver is tried? Is man's will more powerful than Gods will? Oh death where is thy sting, oh grave (Hades) where is they victory? Being born again is a spiritual birth. God didn’t give you a “better” man, or a “less sinful” man when you were saved. He gave you a NEW man. And the new man does not commit sin. And that is how God sees you when you are in Christ. He sees you as if you have never sinned All sins PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE are forgiven. You are perfect in the eyes of God the moment you’ve believed and put your trust in Jesus. His righteousness is now imputed to you.
Here on this Earth, your flesh isn’t eliminated it’s still there. So if you “don’t have the desire” that does not mean you are not born again.
That “Desire” is a process of growing in his grace. And has nothing to do with the reality of you being born again. When you grow in God’s grace then that desire may come along as a result of sanctification. But even if you never have that “desire”. If you believed on Jesus and are trusting in him then you are saved and born again. That is what makes you a CHRISTIAN. The fact that you’re believing on Jesus and trusting in him for your Salvation. Not looking to your desires to prove you’re really born again. That’s nonsense.
Jesus says to just believe and trust in him ALONE to be saved. That is all. DO NOT PUT ANY TRUST OF YOUR NEW BIRTH IN YOUR WORKS OR DESIRES. ONLY JESUS AND HIS WORK.
And I plead with everyone to stop listening to John Piper: He has zeal. But don’t be fooled by his “Godly” exterior. He teaches a different Gospel and a different message than that of the Bible. John Piper’s gospel is of Calvinism, Lordship Salvation, and works. You don’t have to do anything to prove you are a real Christian other than put your trust in the FINISHED work of Jesus Christ. No repenting of sin to get saved, no good works to prove you are saved. No nothing. Salvation is all Jesus. Just believe on him.

Yes to be saved is to believe in Christ. But to PROOVE your salvation is to do good works. Do you need to prove you're saved to be saved? NO. But genuine faith should result in good works because of your love for God. If you don't have the desire or love for God in the first place, then I dont think you genuinely accepted Jesus.
"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also" (James 2:26).
If you came to receive the gospel for a better life then you came for the wrong gospel. If you come to Jesus because he's going to give you this and that, you really didn't surrender. What you're saying is "I've just come to get the ticket to heaven, and NOT Jesus.." That's not saving faith.

You do realize that Piper is a Calvinist and they do believe that God ordained Everything, if you see some of their beliefs, they like Piper believe ordained the rape of a child.
