This tree is great. Mine is outside (in California) at parents’ home for over 10 years now, and is growing up to 5 metres (or almost 15 ft) tall! Full sun too! It has been in the ground, growing in a corner, next to a wall of about 1.5 m (5 ft), and the other side of the corner is about 2.75 m (9 ft). I don’t know if being planted in a corner is what helps or not… the tree is not really protected from sun that way. Somehow it likes the southwestern exposure! The sun as it gets bigger is what keeps the white colours✌🏽 But it is protected, somewhat, from high winds that way. The ocean is a ten minute walk from here… I know that when smaller they can be sensitive and burn. I would also check with a landlord about planting these outside-it’s because of those roots, as they may disrupt pipes or electrical wiring underground, in addition to building foundations. That basically can be said for all _Ficus_ species! Even the edible figs. But the worst for damage could likely be the Banyan fig and the strangler fig. Just the name “strangler” tells you what the roots will try to do. I think the popular ones like _Ficus benjamina, elastica, altissima, Audrey, triangularis_ etc. aren’t usually so bad but it’s good to monitor 😊
thank you for sharing your in depth knowledge with us :)...yes smaller plants are more delicate and need more care and protection... yes i have some large trees in my neighbors garden which are very large and quite hardy to environment change... very true ficus can be notorious with their root system especially Ficus religiosa known to damage the infrastructure the roots can even enter inside the pipes and completely damage the drainage system of the buildings
