For anyone interested in professional cycling, the 2020 Tour de France featured not only the first ever Slovenian winner, but the top 2 overall finishers as well! Tadej Pogačar overcame a 57-second deficit to fellow Slovenian, Primož Roglič, on the penultimate day of the 21-stage grand tour, which ended with a 4-mile climb up La Planche de Belle Filles. On that day, Pogačar won the stage, won the White Jersey (Best Young Rider), Polka Dot Jersey (King of the Mountains), and most importantly the Yellow Jersey (Overall Leader). It was one of the most climactic endings ever to be seen at the Tour de France. Pogačar and Roglič embraced afterwards, showing the pure class of the two competitors and countrymen. Tadej Pogačar is the youngest winner of the Tour de France since 1904, and has a bright future ahead of him. I enjoyed this very much. I'm not hard to please and do try to enjoy things when I can. Possibly I am easy to please because I have suffered from debilitating severe depression for thirty years and have great difficulty experiencing life with those uplifting emotions that many I fear take for granted. I may not feel genuine joy very often, but still I am able to appreciate things of quality and the effort that goes into a creation . . . and your channel is that . . . quality . . .always. Thank you for your hard work and the energy you expend to create every video - - - and do take care of yourself.
As an ethnic German, I knew more about Slovenia than most Americans (Slovenia has been part of German nations on and off). But I have learned much more following Barbara. Great video! I didn't know about the Narnia :) The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian | 2008 - Locations: New Zealand; Prague, Czech Republic; Poland; Slovenia This is so cool that they chose these countries to film in. I visited all and the nature is indeed stunning
I should also mention the person most responsible for the explosion in popularity of Polka music, Slavko Avsenik. Although "invented" in Bohemia, the Slovenian Slavko Avsenik stylzed polka, catapulting it into Southern Europe, then the rest of Europe, and on to North America and elsewhere. Avsenik gave rise to hundreds of Polka groups worldwide, and his polka became a central attribute of Slovenian culture. As an American who was exposed to a rude, Americanized version of Polka in the 1960's and 1970's, I had no idea Polka could be so wonderful until being introduced to real, Slovenian Polka out of Southern Europe. From my perspective, Polka is a beautiful cultural "glue" holding together traditional music cultures of Slovenia. Of Slovenia's relatively small population, a large percentage are accomplished musicians and performers, with countless Slovenian groups carrying on this wonderful tradition. Among the many groups are my favorites, Die Oberkrainer Polka Madels, Extra Kvintet-LadyKryner, Navihanke, Polka Punce, AlpenOberkrainer, Gorenski Kvintet...and so many other. Slovenian music makes up a good part of my day, bringing much happiness and joy.

I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area and the one and only pro basketball game i've ever been to was Jan. 16, 2019. The Mavericks vs the Spurs. The top player was LOOOOkah DONNchitch (that's the way we say it). He's only 5 inches taller than me... So ya, I knew about Luka, who is #77, my old football number, and the number of graduating seniors at my high school. For as young as he is, he's the best player in the NBA. (Look out, Lebron). Ok, I've seen Laibach live for twelve times, for which I've flown thrice to other countries (from Finland); Prague and Berlin. I've collected almost their entire catalogue on my shelves, cd's, vinyls, dvd's , books etc., so yes, it definitely comes to mind first about Slovenia. One of my goals is to see them live in Ljubljana, or Trbovlje, where they originate. Every time they do so I die a little bit inside due to not having enough money to travel or there's a bit too much pandemi going on to travel... Anyhow, keep it up! PS. This year thirteenth time if this shit ever stops and concerts start rolling again.

So ya, I knew about Luka, who is #77, my old football number, and the number of graduating seniors at my high school. For as young as he is, he's the best player in the NBA. (Look out, Lebron). I didn't know about the other stuff. Ask me about 2 Cellos...
For those that want to put you down, they're just jealous. They either want to be you, or be with you, but they know they can't. So they hate. Fk em. Love ya, Barbara. Stay safe, stay cool. You're#1 in my books.
Akrapovic exhaust systems for bikes and cars are arguably the best you can get. Have had them on 2 of our bikes here in the US. A Triumph Speed Trip and Yami R1. Great stuff from Slovenia, of all places.
Thank you very much I am eager for news and information about Slovenia - Merry Christmas
I from Slovenia and Doncic and Dragic are gods.
Very intestine .. I knew about the movies and the sports .. and I’m sure the few you linked below !!! Very informative .. also bill Murray was a spokesman for Slovenian vodka !!! Stay says Vesel Božič. In srečno novo leto. ❤️🇸🇮❤️
Ja vesel novo leto! Let's hope it's a better year than 2020 lol
Intestine indeed

I had no idea that do many common items were because of a great Slovenian mind. Thank you so much Barbara for brining so much light to your country and achievements. It's been a thrill to experience it vicariously through you! Best holiday wishes!
As a long time Toronto Raptors fan, I remember the PA announcer announcing 2 players in slovenian (Rasho Nesterovic and Uros Slokar) številka dvanajst and deset
Peter Florjancic was the most impressive person to me. He was a genius but only made the difference he did because he combined that with hard work. I love the way Barbara is always trying to inspire us to challenge ourselves. Even when we fail, we grow. The most important thing is to never give up on ourselves. Thank you Barbara! 🙂
The Chronicles of Narnia.. Or The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.. Ah fond memories of covid free times. Great video Miss B. And Thank you. Hope you(and everyone else) have a merry 🎄🎅xmas🦌⛄ and a happy 🎉 new year 🎊.
There's a thing some slovenes once introduced to me that has Cockta and 1000 Roses in it. Forgot the name but it's my favourite slovenian "thing" (besides the beautiful landscapes) and they drank it like water.
You probably mean home made Jägermeister, the original brand is from Germany. Big amounts of it are not advised... I think that plum/pear/blueberry brandy are more preferred, but everything flows...
@@valentintapata2268 yeah, it tasted a bit like Jägermeister :)
No he probably mean the literal 1000 roses (tavžentroža) mix with Cocta and we name that Fuzl. At least around Maribor. And it is great 😀
@@EmmaSchmitt yes, that was it! 😄
@@EmmaSchmitt do you know where I can buy that in the area of Slovenj Gradec or Maribor? I live close to the border in Austria and want to try that again after so many years 😁
(edit: maybe at Mercator, at least they have it on their website ...)
Pravkar sem odkrila tvoj kanal. 🤩 Krasno 👍 Tvoja je angleščina je odlična 🙌🙌🙌
Sjeos Barbara, lepo te je videt tako polno z energijo LP xoxo

Well, we already know about you ....
Cool that you admire the inventor so much.
Cool Beans Barbara!! That's yankee for "Great job"!!
I read the article on Peter Florjancic, wow what an inspirational person :)
Dober video, se sam nism vedu za vse te.
Merry Christmas 🎄!
Im from Slovenia its a beautiful country
Yes. Movies are filmed everywhere. Literally, every country.. province.. state.. etc.. Very good Barbara. A few were in Slovenia.
Vlatko Cancar we tried to pick him up here in okc a few years ago.
I love how she says sports teams names, so damn cute
And...Micky Dolenz of The Monkees...actually, he's the last Monkee.
Amazing video Barbara, loved it all 👌
Hey, you would be awesome travel guide! You're enthusiastic about your country, sympathetic and used to speak on mic so "Barbarian Travel Agency" would be hit, imho :-)))
Awesome vid, now I love Slovenia more. Red hair suits you well, happy holidays to you and yours.
Enjoyed the vid Barb. Knew about the sports figures but not the inventor. He had a great mind and obviously knew how to live life. Wow!
Some scenes of Narnia were filmed in new Zealand too
Small countries rule 💪🏻 underrated 😁
You left out the Beautiful and talented Barbara Horvat! You are the only reason i know Slovenia exists. Hope ya'll are doing well and having a very Merry Christmas!
I live in Slovenia in Bled🙃 a very beautiful place. If you go to Slovenia I suggest Bled.
Very informative. Thanks.
Another great video! Have a Merry Christmas!
Barbara, I never noticed your dimples before. Very cute. Thank You for the Slovenian in history lesson. Very interesting. JRS
That was great, thanks for the education. Bog te blagoslovi, Imej lep dan (if this is wrong blame google translate) 😃
I used to work for Elizabeth Arden. Didn't know a Slovenian invented the perfume spray for them until now!
Her first name is Greek and means Foreigner and her second name is Hungarian and means kroat. it's a common name also in Austria and Hungary and the Czech Republic and Slovakia like Novak which is czech but also common in Slovenia or Croatia and of course germanAustria so Horvath and Novak are old austrian names. I have a Czech name Croatian baka granny ali ja govorim štajersko greetings from Gradc Austrija švabo sam xd
Gosh, for me personally Slovenia means Planica and Prevc brothers. Huge ski jumping fan here. :D
Anže Lanišek doing great right now tho...Prevc trio not in form sadly :(
Jaka Pavlin let’s hope for the best, Domen did pretty good in Zakopane last week. ;)
@@zosiam8541 yeah he did but he has to keep this form if he wants to achieve something💪
Im 1/4 my grandpa came from Slovenian. He was a stern man.
6:12 The ultimate "I'll do it myself."
fun fact: they meant to film game of thrones in slovenia but didn't cuz it was too expensive
Not that it was expensive per se, our idiots in government couldbt reach an agreement with them because they set the price so high. Dyou have any idea what GoT would do to us? My God.
