  • Repairing a galvanized chain-link fence post that rusted off at ground-level. The old fence posts in the 1960's and 1970's were put in the ground with a giant concrete ball base for stability.

Sounds good...even better if you showed how you proceeded to completion!

So did you have to get a larger eye top for the larger post or did you just stick the existing one inside the larger post? Nice solution though,..I do that for posts in concrete walls,..

I did not. I simply reused the existing cap because the old post stuck out high enough. Although, now that I'm thinking about it, I could have used a larger cap on top. But then the inner original post would not be secure. It would be loose on top inside the larger post. I could drill straight through both posts and install a galvanized bolt/nut but I wanted the post to look like the others.

    Why the larger post?

I wanted the inner post reconnecting to the old post using the rail sleeve on the inside diameter. Then I wanted the larger post covering it all the way to the concrete ball on the outside diameter. Both posts were cut to allow for the inner post to stick up and let me reattach the original post cap. I thought the outer post would add some stability.

You should of shown how it worked and where you can buy the connector. Not helpful!
