Yup. It makes me sad thinking about it. RUclips was so good back then. Screen Junkies, Collider Movie Talk, no adpocalypse which meant passionate content creators...sucks man.
@@Crunch_Buttsteak A lot of it fell apart with 'The Last Jedi'. COntent creators started getting big and getting perks to get early peaks at Marvel/Disney stuff and started shrilling for them or getting sponsored to promote shite (Look at Red Letter Media's Geek Squad pisstake). Some adopted corporate SJW stances pushing ridiculous woke narratives. Also a lot of the best RUclips series also ran their course (Like any TV should would), became exhausted (only so much nerd culture is interesting) and creators didn't have new ideas to refresh them. So fans started turning against the creators as they increasingly became more full of BS. Everything became more divisive, star creators started leaving their projects to start lesser channels and so on.
I stopped paying attention to SJ when the movie fights format changed and to be honest I was already growing tired of hearing the same arguments every episode for the same movies over and over.
@@jewsco nope i gave the new format a shot to pull me back in but it failed. Are you gonna keep wearing shoes that make your feet hurt even though the new pair is more uncomfortable than the old one?
Yeah, I wish those videos were released on RUclips. The game show with Jeremy, the shows with Flickinger and Stuckmann, and so on...for 5 bucks, it was worth it. I really enjoyed it.
This is so weird, to remember it was only going to cost 5 dollars. Back then people didnt support like they do now with superchats and other things that we look at as routine now.
Seeing that old footage of you, Dan, and Spencer...man I thought you all were the dream team. This was really interesting Andy. Hope this is healing for you finally putting this all out there.
I had SJPlus for probably a 6 months to a year. Favorite shows were Mundy Night Raw, and the honest commentaries. Probably two of the simplest ideas but were really entertaining for me, also two of the most consistent until Mundy left anyway. Everything where you guys brought in other talent to do shows were interesting but just never quite felt like screen junkies and were also less consistent because obviously those people had other stuff to work on as well. Also just wanted to say, what I really loved about the commentaries was how you, Dan, and Spencer went back and did commentaries for the entire back catalog of episodes. It took awhile to do all of it and that had to have been a huge undertaking, so I just wanted to give props on the commitment.
I'm sorry, but I hated Interns of Field. I loved almost everything else on SJ+, but that was garbage. I stopped paying attention to SJ when the movie fights format changed
Maybe talk about those screen junkies roasts, they were an awesome use of your talent and peeps like joe starr really excelled at it. Who's idea was it?
Thanks for sharing Andy! I became a Screen Junkies Plus member loved watching you guys do Talking Dead and the Game of Thrones after show. I subscribed for the ability to see more of YOU guys not necessarily the content itself. You guys literally could have talked about anything and I would've watched for $5 a month or more. I've seen you talk about the reason why screen junkies (fandom) is failing now is because there's no more personality. Screen Junkies+ had the personality and I believe you were right in how you wanted to go about it, but the big companies felt they knew better than their creators.
Being a SJ Plus’r from the start... this is so interesting. Yes that app was a nightmare, buggy and crashed a lot for me. 100% felt like an exclusive fan club and loved the “after the fight” shows like that 👍 oh how times have changed. Thanks for the insight 👍
Andy thanks for sharing the behind the scenes story of what made a lot of us and the masses big fans of you! I feel as though I know you so much more and your drive, business savvy and your work ethics! You have so much talent and it shows with what your creating on your new platform now, it just gets better and better man bravo 👏🏼 🙌🏼💯
I thought John Campea wanted collider to be the espn of movie news and content. I guess the lesson here is don’t try to become the ESPN of anything 😂😂😂
@Epic Rhino Films I’m just saying they both wanted to be the ESPN of movie news which is epic but proven to fail as an endeavor. I believe Andy could pull it off if him and campea combined powers
I remember signing up for the SJ+ free trial without putting in my billing info and then due to a programming error, just getting it for free for several months. They had to email to ask me (and likely many others) to pay the backlog. Pretty sure I legally didnt have to but I felt bad, so I did. That was a major fumble.
I remember signing up just after the first few weeks, man live movie fights was the best. I avidly watched, everything you put out. Was bummed when it was canceled.
Man i use to watch screen junkies all the time a few years back. Everytime a movie came out that I liked i wanted to see what the Junkies had to say. But yea around the time of them moving to that plus stuff and the guy from this video wasn't on those debate videos i stopped watching. I'm not even sure if they do that anymore.
Yeah for me it was like: "I don't really know or care about most of these shows-- and I can watch what I want for free". If you all launched smaller shows as previews and made a fan base for those shows and then moved them behind a pay wall I think I would of had more incentive to buy.
I LOVE when you do videos like this! As a small time content creator, this kind of behind the scenes info is super informative and helpful. It's very difficult to get an honest glimpse into the inner workings of the business like this because everyone want to protect the brands and stars and so on . You're awesome for doing this and telling us really what's happens, and especially in this case when something does not work. Please do more content like this!
SJU was such a beautiful representation of how talented people could work together to create something wonderful and fun. Just goes to show that ego is poison to good things.
Damn, the honest insight into the ScreenJunkies Plus is so intriguing. I'm so glad I found out yesterday that you're back to making content on RUclips.
Hey Andy! Old fan from SJ here. In fact, I used Screen Junkies data as part of my PhD study about Internet Flow of Information around the time of SJ+. It's great to get some insights about what happened behind the curtains. The type of content you published today is great. Few in the industry have the knowledge and the experience you have. I would encourage you to publish more of this. I'm more than happy to share some thoughts, because this is my field of studies, as an university professor. There are hundreds of movie channels, but not that much about the process of making and creating content (not with your experience, anyway). Keep the good work!
I was a screen junkies plus member for its entire run. I remember watching Mundy Night Raw, Andre (Black Nerd) show, Movie Fights, and so many others. You make a good point about becoming a member. This pandemic hit me hard financially but let me crunch some numbers and see what I can do 💪🏾
Andy great video, editing on point👌 I too was a screen junkies plus subscriber. Man your right about that damn app. Any chance you can upload does it hold up or any of the content?
I have no idea what you’re talking about (never heard of it) BUT you made it very interesting anyway & I’m looking forward to part 2. This is why I subscribed to you, you make any topic interesting
I'll be frank: Cause people barely want to pay 10 bucks for a lot of content on Netflix, they won't pay for a You Tube geek show. Everything is free now. You Tube is killing it, beating everybody cause it's free.
I was a subscriber from the first day, perhaps the only subcriber in England! I felt the fee for new and original content from creators I was either watching already, or from those the site would introduce me to was worth it. However, it did quickly become clear that something was very wrong. It's a shame that Screen Junkies has pretty much imploded. The SJ+ experiment was just the first nail in the coffin, Andy's 'dismissal' was another, and now Dan (who I felt was the glue that held it together) has gone, there's just nothing left. Honest Trailers has become a bit of a joke... The fact recent episodes are struggling to get 2 million views, when for a time pretty much every single one would be guaranteed 15+ million, and the really viral 'hits' went over 50 million... I don't know, I unsubscribed from SJ a couple of months ago, and i'll look up the Honest Trailer release and see if I'm interested but usually I'm not anymore. But then again, I wouldn't subscribe to this channel either, because I don't really care for the format and much of the content... And that's all I have to say about that....
Okay, I am subscribed to your channel. I haven't received hardly any recommendations from you. Now that you're talking about Screen Junkies and the recommendation comes up. Andy, you've said it before, RUclips will only push your videos if it looks controversial. You were right! This is so annoying. One of Joe Rogan's guests mentioned the same thing too.
I was a subscriber and like you said while I liked the feeling of more screen junkies the sell was Netflix and it really wasn’t. When I wanted to cancel you wrote me a really nice response. Stay safe Andy- you’re a good guy.
As someone who is only a casual viewer of screen junkies videos (mostly honest trailers) I'll be honest I've never heard of this SJ+ service until right now. And I've been watching Chris Stuckmann for years now so it's strange that in all that time it's never once really come up even just as an ad a couple of times. Interesting video though. Good to get behind the scenes knowledge on a project like this
I enjoyed SJ+ very much! (Got lucky to have free access:) from you guys)) It showed that quality was aiming high but too much was happening simultaneously! I believe you would get there in some time though. Pity( And you are so right Andy about copies! Just did it recently for me, when the studio I worked for pulled the plug and cut off all the author's rights! And I would love to rewatch old movie fights btw!!!
I was a member for a couple of months. The app threw me off, such a mess, so much worse than how even youtube managed content. But after all I mainly canceled because the lack of time, usually I would wanna see stuff some time later than aired/made and finding all just slightly older content on the app was such a laborious task that I gave up :)
Those lessons learned are gold. It is rare to have information about businesses and upper management bad decisions and their actual consequenses. Screen Junkies Plus could have better positioning, more time to build up, and be cheaper to produce, yielding a much better profit margin, if people were on the long-run game.
Good job on this video Andy. I never signed up for it because it seem to lack a lot of stuff and did seem like the same things on the RUclips channel. I’m glad y’all got a chance to do this way before we had all these streaming channels. Can’t wait to hear more.
I was a subscriber of SJ Plus! I remember when you guys didn't charge me for 5 months, then took it all at once. I knew something was up, but still loved Screen Junkies in its day!
I paid for screen junkies plus and I felt it was for fans to get more content and support you guys. I couldn't imagine anyone signing up for who wasn't already watching moviefights.
Hey Andy i love your content! these behind the scenes commentary videos from your screen junkies days are always insightful ;) wish you would make a full on documentary about screen junkies and your work i think that would do amazing!!!
What in the world happened to Nick Mundy??? He was so hilarious and cannot find anything these days what happened after the rock married him and he had that web show with the wrestler??
I was a SJ plus member. I was a big fan of Screen Junkies back when you were in charge. Was that Josh blurred out in the group picture? Was that for legal reasons or just personal? You've addressed the people who lied and your other colleagues who turned their backs on you but I've never heard you talk about him.
Really loved this video - Great insights. Can't wait for part 2 ! Andy should a series about tips, advices and pitfalls for people who want to enter the industry
I miss the old screen junkies team. I miss hal. PLEASE COME BACK TO RUclips. I would love to him have his own channel so i can watch hal. Miss him. They should do video with dan and hal together just talking about movies in General
loved this Andy! very informative and helpful to see a behind the scenes look at screen junkies plus (without any of the personal drama (: ). it was always something i wanted to buy but never really got around to purchasing. however, i completely agree with you that if the team had marketed it as a fan club instead of a streaming platform it definitely would have worked. that's a very smart thing for you to say, and something i didn't think about until now. i remember, at the time, everyone who was watching screen junkies felt a part of this great community both with the people we saw on our computer screens and those that participated in comments and tweets online. in my opinion, enticing screen junkies fans to latch on to screen junkies plus would have required little more than a push for it as a home base for screen junkies supporters!
i actually joined this for a year, i liked some shows, i followed the chris stuckmann show, the jeremy one too, and even the nick mundy had its moments, those are the ones i remember most.
I became a member and it was great but it was right there at the end. So for me it was just a couple of months and I watched everything that was on there. Keep it up Andy! Try and bring some form of Movie Fights or Nerd Wars or whatever. That’s how I became a fan of Screen Junkies and I know a lot of people did too. Debate shows about movies is what is missing with the schmoedown. I believe it could work.
Mundy Night Raw didn’t work, the name was good but it was clear Nick wasn’t a competent host. He appeared nervous and unsure in the hot seat. I always thought he worked best when he was heavily produced in a supporting role like “How to Fix”.
The problem with screen junkies is, they were entertaining but every so often they would always say some sjw type stuff. People don't want that. People just want to be entertained. They didn't want to feel like they're being preached to.
Ya I heard he got fired because there was a woman he was trying to get to audition to come on the show and he was doing it sleazily something along those lines
I loved ScreenJunkies for a long time. I was a ScreenJunkies+ founder and I would have payed ten times the price of the content was worth it. I was really disappointed in the turns the show took. I still wait for my refund since they cancelled the service. I still think MovieFights and Honest Trailers would have been enough if handled right.

You might have missed the point. I think his awkwardness was the main appeal of his show..I could be wrong, though.
Interns of field was awful.
The problem with screen junkies is, they were entertaining but every so often they would always say some sjw type stuff. People don't want that. People just want to be entertained. They didn't want to feel like they're being preached to.
I actually meet Andy in philadelphia with the rest of the screen junkies in 2014 nice time
I was a Screen Junkies Plus Subscriber day 1 I was locked and Loaded, miss those days
Here because of Watcher Entertainment...
Didn't this dude get me too'd?
Ya I heard he got fired because there was a woman he was trying to get to audition to come on the show and he was doing it sleazily something along those lines

His name was ultimately cleared in the end.
Interesting background info! Sounds like Spencer should do an honest trailer for SJ+......
Hope you have joined here 😎
What do you think of nebula and curiosity stream? Do you think it would have worked in a partnership like that?
Can u make the old shows and vids available?
