- England v Portugal 2-2 Euro 2004 Quarter Final in Portugal. Gerrard playing as a DM this game produced a good defensive performance as England didn’t concede a goal whilst he was on the pitch as the took an early lead. Not the one of the best performances by Gerrard but a solid one nonetheless.

That decision to take Gerrard off was the ending of the golden generation. With Scholes retiring from international football and Owen being on decline England never had the quality afterwards.
Unlucky how we never won anything with players like Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, Beckham and Owen up front in the team. Probably because Sven did substitutions with him off for Owen Hargreaves.
Sven was never a good in game manger, it let him down on several occasions
