2019 is bad with death. My Pokemon TCG friend that I only knew online died the same way wowaka did in September. I sent him my somewhat pulls and got a response from his mom. We never met irl, we just traded through the mail. A couple months earlier Cameron Boyce, who was my age, also died while sleeping (though specifically from a seizure). It felt like everyone was dying young in their sleep. It felt so terrifying.
The same month as wowaka tho... so he died at the beginning of the month. At the end of the month my dad took his own life. The last time I saw him alive was a year earlier at a funeral reception place for his mother’s funeral. The next time I saw him was in a coffin in the same building.
What I hate about grieving is that I don’t cry either. Instead I get the WORST headaches. When my dog got put down in 2018 I went to the ER it was so bad, but at least the drug they gave me made it go away. I didn’t go to the ER when my dad died and it lasted for 3 days after the funeral. I legitimately couldn’t do anything except lay down because nothing I could take at home worked. A month later I released the first Many Voices of Hatsune Miku video (which was so weirdly edited that it doesn’t exist anymore). I’m not sure how related it is, but it’s still interesting to note I guess.
Now I’ve been releasing videos weekly since January 8th and haven’t broken the streak. I don’t want to break the streak, but I do want to really get going with Miku English covers of her Japanese songs. I’m just gonna keep going until every Vocaloid gets a Many Voices and take full advantage of my built in sub base for when I finally release music.
If I ever do anything original it’ll be with my dad’s Yamaha keyboard from 1996 (two years older than me) that’s midi compatible. I’m glad we took it in the divorce because I found out he had sold his guitars on Facebook a few weeks before he died. That’s the biggest red flag for me, since those guitars and cars were his real passions that he never got to fully pursue. I thought I’d be a fiction author, but here I am buying Melodyne to help Miku sound her best because it’s what she deserves.
This feels like rambling, but the point is, I absolutely get what you’re saying with this video.

While not related to Samfree, it makes me really depressed that Siinamota/Powapowa-P's popularity spiked many months after his passing, some of his songs even recently hitting 1M+ on YT and NicoNico. It just makes me sad he wasn't able to see it happen, but I'm sure he would've been happy to know that his music has impacted many people's lives, even saving some from suicide. I hope him and Samfree rest in peace.

Heck, we might get a tenth anniversary version of Luka Luka Night Fever.

  • @fleur8609

This just made me remember of how the day after me and one of my closest friends at the time heard of Samfree's passing we decided to put on Luka Luka Night Fever as a sign of respect for him while we went to school. It felt weird because we would usually talk and joke around, Vocaloid music giving us a bit of a push to start the day postively, that morning the only thing that was there with us seemed to be this grayish, grim atmosphere though. It was a very weird moment and I think it changed the way I listen to this song forever.
Like you I'm not a good griever at all as I don't cry either, it used to bother me a lot but I realized after a while that the emotions are still there even if I might not externate them. I got into Touhou eurobeat arranges around last year and when seeing his name pop up in one album it made me smile in a bittersweet way, like a "long time no see!" kind of thing. I got a bit teary eyed when playing Luka Luka Night fever on the Diva games, it made me realize that I was in fact still so attached to his work, and had many good memories attached to it.
Sorry for the ramble anyways, I usually don't get much of a chance to say how much a specific producer means to me and it felt kind of liberating to do so here.

Watching the video,I got that feeling in my throat like right before you start crying.
It's okay to be a mess when it comes to this stuff - Samfree,Powapowa and wowaka all left traces that can't be erased.
Listening to those old tunes once in a while is good.
    Rest in peace.

First of all, rest in peace Samfree, Wowaka, and Powapowa-P
I was in early high school when I first heard about PowaPowa and Samfree. It was chilling, but I didn't really understand how to cope with that information. I guess one of Samfree's strengths is that his songs always guaranteed you a good time (how can anyone feel down when listening to Luka Luka Night Fever?). PowaPowa hit me in particular because he began composing at around the same age I was at the time (14/15), and since then songs like Strobe Last have always been an emotional listening experience for me. And I don't even think I can put into words the legacy that Wowaka created and how that still affects me now, even in college.
Secondly, I just want to say thank you for making video content about Vocaloids. I feel like fans (at least in the West) never had a voice to bounce off or start discussions like this (maybe because we were all too young at the time). These producers all had a huge influence on my childhood and to see them gone so suddenly in my youth is heartbreaking, to say the least. I never had friends who were really into Vocaloid, so as a fan I feel comforted that people are using this space as a place to deal with that grief. Samfree lived his best life, and I feel better knowing how his music career has blossomed. There's something to take from all this.

First of all, great video! Second of all, dont worry about your video being that high quality. My video for Samfree is not even that good but it should not matter because it is our way of paying respect. Remember, its about the producer, not the video quality and I can safly say that this video is great. And thridly, I want to say that while yes, Samfree's death is a tragedy, we should not let that haunt us. I had my early connections to vocaloid thanks to Samfree and few others. His duty is to spread the wrld with joy and happiness with the power of Vocaloid while our job is to not forget his legacy. He has done his job well, lets do ours well too. Rest in peace Samfree, your an angel now.

I got into Vocaloid about two years ago through Samfree, because I listened to Eurobeat a lot at the time, when I stumbled upon a live video of Luka Luka Night Fever. I started listening to his other songs, especially the ones with the awesome guitar parts. His music was a big factor in me eventually wanting to learn the instrument. I'd go absolutely batshit crazy if they'll play one of his songs at the next MikuExpo.

Damn, your story is too relatable. I thought I was the only one feeling like this. I felt nothing when my aunt passed away, even tho I wanted to cry or be sad I couldn’t. I felt nothing I don’t think I’ve even realized that she’s really gone. And when other people are sad can’t I even comfort them. I have no idea how to I just freeze and stare. And then I get so disappointed in myself for not crying or missing the ones I’ve lost and not helping my friends when they’re sad. I don’t know why it became like this, when I was younger would I always cry and comfort others. Now can I barely show affection at all

Just a personal story related to death. TW suicide
So back in 2008, my grandma died. I was still very young to the point where I didn't yet fully understand what death was as a concept, but watching my mum grieve was extremely bizzare.
My mum hated my dad, and still does. I can remember sitting at the top of the stairs with her and my sister, and she asked us how we would feel if she left my dad. We were kids, so of course we got upset. After my grandma died, my mum couldn't cope, and to distract herself, she decided to get married to my dad on Christmas eve the following year. I watched her cry as she got me ready, with no clue why someone would be upset on what's supposed to be the best day of their life.
A couple years later, my mum left and met another man who's brother coincidentally had also commit suicide around Christmas. She actually did fall in love this time and attempted to leave my dad behind, though they were still married. Financially, we suffered very badly. When we wanted to get a mortgage for a house, she finally divorced him, and he dragged out the divorce by refusing to cooperate, costing my mum thousands in soliciter fees. We nearly ended up homeless and are still in debt even now.
My understanding of grief only really solidified a couple years ago when an idol of mine passed away. Also around Christmas. Also by suicide. I was so shocked and upset, my mind went to some of the darkest places I've been in for a very long time. It made me realize how temporary life is, and I regret not appreciating people in my family before it was too late to let them know how grateful I am for them just being there. I agree, people want to be remembered for the good times but I really struggle to get away from the fact that I didn't do enough for them when they were still around. Recently, I've been struggling with my mental health again and this time I'm dead set on getting the help I need and persueing what I want to do with my life, so that when I am gone, no matter how others choose to remember me, I can reflect on whatever legacy I leave and be proud that I made the most of it.

  • @DarioVolaric

I believe that grief should be natural and thus genuine, not forced. If you don't feel any grief for a death, that's ok. We are all different and all grief in a different way. Sometimes it has a delayed effect and it can hit you minutes, hours, days or even months or years later. And that's fine.

  • @juxtaposedlime2734
    @juxtaposedlime2734 Год назад +5

What's sad is that most of Samfree's songs aren't tied to any labels, which makes getting his songs to be added into concerts or having existing songs modified for concerts (i.e. World is Mine getting a different animation and being played in full from 2014 onwards) impossible.
Which is why we always see the same animation for Luka Luka Night Fever in every concert; there's no one to contact for permission so that it could be changed.
Unlike Wowaka, Samfree seems to have NO contact representative so his songs will be lost to time eventually, which is truly sad.

i just wanted to say that i understand what you mean about grieving. my grandfather passed recently after being treated for dementia for almost 6 years. my mom was completely devastated but i couldn't cry for some reason. i couldn't even feel sad. i'm glad you mentioned your experience in this vid because i thought i was the only one who felt that way. even with vocaloid producers dying, sometimes i get sad and sometimes i don't, and it depends almost entirely on how i find out they died. its almost as if the finding out makes me grieve, not their actual death. which is odd...but it could be worse i guess. thanks for this video and perspective, it was a great tribute to samfree. r.i.p.

For me at least, I’ve never really moved on from grief. I’ve moved with grief. Each person I’ve lost is like a small hard oddly shaped object that I carry with me in my pocket. Sometimes I may forget that it’s there but whenever I sit down or have a moment I can feel it sitting there jabbing into my thigh. I’ve never felt like grief was something that I could put in a box or walk away from.

great vids men! i enjoy a lot knowing about producers and songs
also, i had some suggestion for you (a bit off topic bout the vid, sorry). as i can see you dont cover the scene of metal to much, so what about talking of yuyoyuppe and utsu-P, they are temporarily close and had big influenses on the next years of producers of vocaloid metal. making possible by influence (personal think) the album "ark" wich bring to the scene a not so popular voicebank as one of the main singers, nekomura iroha, and not only that, because on the next month a large collab album "vocanoise vol.3", again with new voicebank and a lot of producers. And how, that traduces on one of the best producers on shonentaro and Blatantly Emotional Records on the actuallity of vocametal.
I personally think that he scene of vocametal is so unexplored and needs recognition, because for example, utsu-p still made music and i omited crucial names like noa+ or BASSDRUM RENDAP (バスドラ連打P), the use of luka on the genre, the impact of "leia" or the idea of using populars and unpopulars voicebanks

it's intresting you mention that you didn't cry at funerals since i went to ONE funeral of my uncle who i didn't really like that much or was close to at all and STILL i was one of the few people that cried loudly uncontrollably. why?? wish i didn't.
also if i lived everyday as if it was my last i'd do nothing but cry and be anxious about it, no thank you :/
