Even Atuk never was filmed the actors who were going to play the main role as John Belushi, Sam Kinison, John Candy, Michael O'Donoghue, Chris Farley, and Phil Hartman all died before even started from heart attack, overdose, traffic accident. The death of Natalie Wood is strange because she was afraid to open sea, and makes no sense she tried to been in a canoe by herself.
All of the mistreatment and deaths of various animals in movies until the Animal Welfare Act of 1966
I'd love to see the proof that Marilyn Monroe 'Overdosed' as opposed to the theory that she was killed by an overdose - subtle difference but still significant especially when the toxicology report was never submitted during the autopsy
You talk about Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Heath Ledger and Brandon Lee... but what about Brandon's father: BRUCE LEE???
You forgot Jean Harlow's death.
Hattie sitting at a side table was a compromise. Clark Gable insisted she sit with the rest of the cast. They were going to stick her in the back somewhere. Props to Clark for being ahead of his time.
a class of its own.
Sometimes people forget a lot of white people did not agreed with the segregation either.
But indeed props to him for standing up for her.
Yep props to him 👏
There were many who didn’t agree with the prejudice of the day. Too bad most of them didn’t speak up enough.
Yeah but not too many props considering he’s reported to have rped Loretta young and got her pregnant.
I firmly believe had Brandon Lee not died, he would have had an excellent career like his father. RIP 🙏
Absolutely
@Bill Kikstra amen to that
I mentioned due to the Rust entry, I still can't believe (practically) the same thing happened... Prop accidents that took lives
Robin Williams Suicide, I'll never forget where I was when that News Broke. Rest in Peace Robin Williams. 🙇🏿♂️
Robin Williams died committed suicide one week later my friend did now it’s just the crew and I sitting around wondering what happened guess it’s foolish pride.
Same i was a little kid but i felt so down i thought about following him
It's so awful Robin was in such pain that for him it was the only way to stop it😢
I was at work and my coworker hoped it was a joke. So did I. Sadly, it was not the case. RIP Robin
I would’ve added Phil Hartman’s Murder and Chris Farley’s death.
Phil Hartman was doing TV when he died.
Phil 😭
Neither were movie legends... I'd even say the same about Belushi, but I do reckon he was a milestone for comedy cinema...
Chris Farley's death was like a repeat of John Belushi's death. Both drug overdoses.
PHIL Hartman's death was out and out murder.
Yeah again. These are just celebrity deaths.
The loss of King T’challa. When I learnt that we lost Chadwick Boseman, it felt like a part of me just shattered 😢
Same. I never met the man, but I felt liked I'd lost a best friend.
Only thing: he died of natural causes (colon cancer). None of the other people mentioned here did.
I have a black panther build a bear. I hugged that bear and sobbed all night when i learned he passed.
Chadwick boseman yeah ok im sure you life will never be the same come on he's an overrated actor nobody special
Hattie McDaniel seems a very humble person.
A very classy lady. Loved her in any role. 🕊️❤️🙏
Look for the version of Show Boat starring Irene Dunne. Ms McDaniels even sings.
She was close friends with Clark Gable.
She didn't take no ones s**t & I love that
Hattie McDaniel received criticism because of her movie roles as maids, which were often the only roles she could find in Hollywood as a black actress during that time. She would respond, "I'd rather play a maid than be one!!"
Despite what's on the list, some honorable mentions for me are: (these could also be the saddest moments)
- Robin Williams suicide
- Chadwick Boseman's passing
- Paul Walker's passing
- Heath Ledger
Edit: - Matthew Perry
and the trestle accident?
@@reedspace8267 yep 😭
Those would be great entries for a "darkest Hollywood moments of the 21st century" list
I'd add the murder of child voice actress Judith Barsi by her own father
@@nancyomalley6286 oh yeah she was the voice of Ducky in the first Land Before Time movie
This is the best video MOJO has produced. The tone is particularly respectful. And the very smart choice to not number each segment only adds to this solemn piece. Congratulations on this impressive video.
You forgot to mention that there was a real life serial killer on the set of The Exorcist. The radiologic technologist in the movie was a serial killer
I saw a thing on him. Scary
Wow, I never heard of that before!!
Spill the tea! I have never heard this, but I need some more information! What can I Google or RUclips that would guide me to this case?

The darkest moment of them all, is when the movie ends and the screen turns black
Yep. Truly one of the darkest moments of all time.
I mean ya can't see shit
I’m deceased 😂
As a blind shark this comment hits different
Man I'm dead
im surprise they didnt do one about Robin Williams
RIP to that comedic and wonderful man/legend
Phil Hartman's Murder Suicide I was in 6th Grade and across my TV screen read "Phil Hartman found dead in home victim of apparent gunshot wound".
Jerome Howard aka Curly's stroke and untimely death in 1952 was a certainly dark moment.
Marilyn Monroe was a great tragedy. I am a big fan. Rest in peace blonde bombshell.
About Natalie Wood's death, the whole story is pretty much known: Wagner was a drunk. He was insanely jealous of Natalie's role with Christopher in Brain Storm. That night on the boat, he got hammered, got in a rage and a huge screaming fight with Natalie. He ended up throwing her overboard into the dinghy. There was a storm that night, it was raining, and Natalie was super afraid of the water. Somehow she capsized and drowned from the cold and exhaustion (and probably a good concusion from that fall in the dinghy). All this has been corroborated by the boat captain hired for the outing.
But the authorities have not brougth the culprit to justice. I guess as long as it's not officiel it doesn't exist? Still, she was murdered. What I never could understand is how Christopher stayed silent all those years. I mean, I understand no wanting Wagner as an enemy, and he safeguarding his good reputation in Hollywood, but SHE DIED! That must trump any other concerns, right?
Robert Wagner is still alive. I hope he gets what he deserves, and the truth finally made public and official, before he finally croaks. Christopher, it's not too late to do the right thing.
Christopher Walken has always said that it was an accident. I tend to believe that because he has nothing to gain by lying.
The captain of the boat spent the years afterward selling his "story" to the highest bidder, so I don't believe a word he says.
I suspect Wagner was involved but it was probably an accident because they were ALL drunk at the time.
In any case, Thomas Noguchi, the LA coroner, was LOUSY at his job, so the odds of anything clearing the case at this late date other than a deathbed confession are probably nil.
But it is too late. You can't tell these people what to do. Wagner got away with murder scot free, and Christopher will continue to be silent about it. There is not justice being served here, just like there is no loving God.
Extremely strange mix of events/situations, in my opinion. But on the subject of actor's deaths, Carole Lombard should have made the list, she died doing her job and partcipating in the War effort.
Definitely agree
I love Carole Lombard, she was so funny.
Jean Harlow's untimely death. The plane crashes that killed Leslie Howard and Carole Lombard.
Natasha Richardson’s death during a skiing accident was a moment for me. Robin Williams too.
Brittany Murphy and husband died in a very suspicious way. Aaron Carter, Izaac Kappy, River Phoenix. In one serie called Glee three young people died mysteriously. Almost too many to mention which almost make you question….accident or…?
murphy = accidental suicide, same for husband, Carter = suicide by pills and drowning, Izaac Kappy = what a winner you got here...... conspirary theorist, Trump and Qanon supporter and overall crazy drugs and alcohol user...... yeah.... no loss for humanity there....., River Phoenix = drug overdose, accidental suicide
Mold in the house.
You forgot Bob Crane's Cold Case Murder his case has made it on True Crime Show "Cold Cases" and it is still unsolved to this day.
His son insists that wife #2 had something to do with it and that Scott is not his father's son. Insane!
@@jennifer_m.8613 wow your right that is insane
Bob Crane was a television actor; the video is about the movies.
The supposed curse of the Omen movie. I swear, people always leave out this fascinating film
That was all hype. The writers of _The Fifty Worst Films of All Time_ did a piece on _The Omen_ and nothing that happened during the production of that film was particularly unusual. Not that I agreed with the writers of that piece that _The Omen_ is a bad film; it's a horror classic! But there was no "Omen curse." It was for publicity, Damien! It's all for publicity!
Leslie Jordan's tragic passing from heart failure while driving was a real death moment.
Not a movie legend, are you even paying attention?
Randy "Macho Man" Savage death was an unusual circumstance having a heart attack on the wheel then crashing into a tree whileee otw to the gun range packing a .50 caliber dessert eagle he definitely was the MACHO MAN!! Non pro wrestling fans well remember him best for a cameo in the original Spider Man as Bonesaw or the slim Jim commercials couple of other cameos in movies and TV shows top of my head Baywatch...voice overs in King of the Hill and some adult swim shows but he is one of the wrestler's recognizable faces to non fans...
@@missfreakk1416So Charles Manson and his cohorts were movie stars? I missed that one.
@@JENSATFARit was a major murder case, can’t even compare. Plenty of celebrities have died of heart attacks
Jean Harlow's sudden and unexpected death (at the age 26), should of made the list. Carol Lombard's plane crash/death. The mismanagement of the legend Clara Bow as well. Yeah to name a few you forgot. But Harlow should of made the list. The original blonde bombshell, dead at 26. That was dark and shocking.
River Phoenix dying so young.
Judith Barsi know for her role Ducky Land Before Time Hello?
The Twilight Zone Helicopter Disaster that Killed Vic Morrow.
Yes, I´ve seen the footage when the crash happened. It´s so horrible I can´t even describe it.
The stalking and subsequent murder of actress Rebecca Schaffer still affects me deeply to this day. I was a huge fan of her show My Sister Sam and she was murdered on my 11th birthday July 18th 1989. R.I.P. Rebecca!
Brandon lees death has always had an affect on me when I first watched the movie the crow and learned about his passing, it’s often not mentioned in lists like these so I’m very happy it was.
Brandon Lee will always be Eric Draven 😢
Bill Skarsgard is playing Eric Draven in the reboot
Funny story, my mom was born the day James Dean died, September 30, 1955. And my grandma use to tell me all the nurses were running around saying “oh my goodness, did you hear James Dean died, and my Grandma was like “who is James Dean” 😂😂
My honorable mention: Chadwick Boseman was already fatally ill during his amazing performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
No one saw that shit, stop pushing that dumb movie
The only man in Marilyn Monroe‘s life that did not take advantage of her or use her in some way was Joe DiMaggio. He was very secure in his own celebrity.
Joe’s issue that he wanted Marilyn Monroe to be a regular housewife. Well there was no way that was going to happen.
But he never took advantage of her.
He sent fresh red roses to her grave twice a week for twenty years, He was a class act.
You forgot the passing of John Ritter. It was so sad.😢
Honorable mention: Jason David Frank's suicide. He was only 49 years old. And I still can't believe he's dead and gone. R.I.P.
Y'all really left out Christopher Reeve? If it hadn't been for his accident, he would've been in a fifth Superman film. I'd say May 27th, 1995 was a pretty dark day as far as his fans were concerned. Same for October 10th, 2004, the date of his death from cardiac arrest.
I just love your lists Mojo!!!!
I can't believe Robin Williams' suicide didn't make the list. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia and chose to end his life instead of suffering. Doesn't that deserve to be on your list?
I love your videos, as always, keep up the amazing work.
the Marilyn Monroe one is just...
It should be noted that Birth of a Nation was the first film screened at the White House. Woodrow Wilson, a Princeton man and a Virginian, loved it. Wilson was the same president who segregated the Federal government.
Absolutely disgusting. That is what America is. Disgusting
America's L moment.
The Rust Shooting incident that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, & which has led to stronger on set Safety Protocols.
Rust was cancelled. I hope it stays cancelled.
I hope the whole “blackface & racist stereotypes” thing would die out, if that’s even possible that is!!!
it won't, and it shouldn't.......
imagine this was a "i hope everyone likes the same movies" type of thing...
NEVER gonna happen..... everyone has their own taste, same with racism.
@@chrismeulen8108 well… that’s a touchy subject about racism to enjoy, even if many people want racism to be gone forever…
My concern over the "rust" incident, is we had this same kind of thing happen on the set of "The Crow." Im surprised it still happened, and yet while its the prop masters job to check props its ALSO THE ACTORS job to check said props also.
Rust cancelled and abandoned production shortly after, with zero chances of returning to production. It is just too humiliating of a mistake.
I had no idea there were darkest moments in these movies! I feel sorry for the guy who has to live with what happened. And I feel bad for all the innocent victims!🙁 None of these things should have happened.
Also, I've seen "West Side Story" and some of "The Wizard of Oz".
some? what dumbass only watches "some" of "The Wizard of Oz"
there's a reason why people still hail this 84 year old movie as one of the greatest movies ever made...... go watch the whole thing already.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't understand targeting of Alec Baldwin, he was told it was a cold gun. He's on a movie set there would have been no thought in his head that anyone could be shot unless he put another bullet in there. I'm not a fan of Baldwin but feels weird to me. But I really cannot stand the prosecution lawyers. They sound bias and just trying to get their moment in the lime light. Vultures.
The first rule of handling a gun is that YOU need to check it out yourself.
Allowing other people to do that leads to accidents.
James dean started the whole "Die young" phenomenon or curse in Hollywood followed by Marilyn, river Phoenix, Bruce Lee, John Belushi, Heath ledger.
It started LONG before James Dean. Look up Thelma Todd if you want similar tragedy. Hollywood has ruined lives from the very beginning.
Yeah it's pretty dark when a star puts on an instant classic performance and passes away after the release or when a beloved figure in history makes the biggest scandal Hollywood/cinema has ever seen
John Wayne was not just miscast as gengis Kahn. He was miscast in any film role that required any actual acting.
Seems you don't know much about acting.
Yep he couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag.
Brandon Lee being killed during filming on set of The Crow was so sad. he had an amazing career ahead of him
Should of mentioned the entire filming of the Wizard of Oz. If you know, you know
should have* please learn some English......
Asbestos was used to replicate snow.
As far as RUST is concerned....the Armorer is the one at fault. They are 100% suppose to check and control all weapons on set, they also called out (quite loud and clear) "Cold Gun" before handing it to Baldwin.
Yep. People are acting like a wrongful death investigation hasn't happened before, but my exhibit is The Crow, which had the exact same investigation as Rust. That investigation came to the same conclusion, so I don't exactly get how "premeditated murder" is even close to the radar with Rust.
You forgot about Fatty Arbuckle
Good one
Possibly perfect timing for the publishment of this video just when Oshi no Ko began this week, which shows how the entertainment industry can be REALLY punishing sometimes.
EXACTLY
Should do top 20 darkest moments in music history.
Wow, the ill-treatment on the actors…just devastating. Both men and women should never be treated like that. Tragic indeed 😢😢😢
I agree.
In regards to the Manson fam, I really enjoy Tarantino's "what if" scenario of them in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
You should do top 20 darkest moments in music history
Great idea!!
Brandon Lee died 15:03 because the movie cheaped out and didn't hire a gun expert for the movie. That was a shame as he was so fine and a good actor from what I seen anyways.
Did the Academy ever rectify what they did to Hattie McDaniel?
What do you think??
Nope
why would they? just because our viewpoint of racism has changed in the past 83 years since that happened? that's just dumb..... and completely pointless, as everyone will forget about it the following week again already anyway.
Hattie McDaniel: The cast of GWtW wasn't going to go to the premier - LET ALONE the Oscars because of Hattie's treatment but she furiously yelled at them to go! The only reason she was even given a table at the Oscars was because of the cast's boycott! Thank God they did!
John Wayne set: Not just the cast and Crew got sick, BUT they trucked hundreds of pounds of that sand TO HOLLYWOOD to the studio! Where it was used for scenes there in California! Meaning for a While - that Studio was contaminated! The living members of that movie and even Wayne in his biography talk about this - Wayne went to his grave blaming himself for this. All because he wanted to do something different then a western.
Poltergiest: The bodies in the pool scene were real! From a cadaver academy.
Rust/The Crow: These are accidents and because of what happened on the set of the Crow, there were Rules and Laws for the armory on the set to follow! - YES, Baldwin pulled the trigger - but as a person who has worked on sets with firearms - there is supposed to be two people looking at the weapons we are handed. Someone F'd up and a woman died. Baldwin, YES pulled the trigger - but he is supposed to be able to trust that the person handing the cast those props - checked them. This was beyond tragic and could have been prevented.
NOBODY should EVER handle a weapon and "trust" that someone else has checked it out.
People handling weapons, even in movies, need to know the cardinal rule of handling a gun - NEVER point one at something you aren't willing to destroy.
The insane and unspeakable amounts of child abuse, mainly SA, should've been on this list, especially when you considering how a lot of them turned to drugs and other means just to cope.
I’m honestly surprised that heather o roukes death wasn’t include. She was in my favorite movie and i feel like she would have a great career if she was still alive
Yeah. They mentioned Poltergeist, but glossed over her sudden death before Poltergeist III was completed.
Who ever allowed the real bullet on set is to blame for the death.
I agree! Why on earth would an actor expect a prop gun to have a real bullet? Why would it? Not Alec’s fault, just a horrible tragedy.
Hattie McDaniel was an amazing actress and I wish more people showed her the same support they do with others. Rest Easy Hattie McDaniels 💯🙏🏾💙✊🏾
What about Chris Farley!? That was huge. Also. Idk why. I just don’t believe Baldwin had anything to do with the bullet being in the gun. But on the other hand, he was the one who shot it without knowing. Such a weird and tragic situation to be in.
The " prop person" should have been held responsible. What was a love round doing on the set in the first place?
@@dianequince8761 live*
I never would have thought of John Wayne for the part of Genghis Khan. Very interesting casting.
It's actually a pretty terrible movie, which makes the fact that so many people were harmed just that much worse.
@@pattierotondo1108 my dad was a HUGE fan of John Wayne when he was alive. i mean huge. when he saw Genghis Kahn he thought it was the worst film in Duke's career

For me the darkest moment in film history is the death of composer James Horner in 2015 of an airplane crash. He couldn't finish writing the score for The Magnificent 7 (the new one) and his last films were Wolf Totem, Southpaw, The 33, and Living in the age of Airplanes. Countless Celebrities paid tribute to Horner on Twitter, those Celebrities being: Ron Howard, Russell Crowe, Céline Dion, Leona Lewis, Josh Groban and so on. Even Horner's personal assistant posted: "We lost an incredible person today with unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved." RIP James Horner (1953 to 2015)
Top Ten Most Unique Movies
Example: Blair Witch Project
That list could be filled with David Cronenberg’s entire filmography and no one would mind
Also Pans Labyrinth, Eraserhead, Grand Budapest Hotel, Suspiria, Big Fish, Wizard of Oz and House (1977) imo
Alec Baldwin should’ve never been charged. The person who prepped the weapons was more subject, but because he was an A liar actor they put all the responsibility on him. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was set up based off his portrayal of one former president on SNL.
Nobody should handle a weapon and trust that someone else has done their job.
The person firing the weapon should ALWAYS check it personally.
This egregious negligence is the reason why many Hollywood actors are striking to this day. Hollywood is one of the shittiest places for actors and writers to work, not to mention dangerous, in terms of hostile work environments, abusive higher-ups, loopholes in labor laws if not blatant violations of said laws, and the abusers are continuing to get away with this scot free simply because they are rich. Because in America, the more rich you are, the more powerful you are, and the more you will be invincible. This is NOT okay. Hollywood has always been this way from day one. Hollywood is a lost cause. It needs to die.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman!
I might have known about Triumph Of The Will, don't know one about Brain Storm and Last Tango In Paris. I know some things about Black and Stereotypes and Hollywood Blacklist.
Hattie finally got the Oscar she rightly won. The academy decided that it was time she got her due
Can you make a video about darkest moment in music history?
There were many tragedies and scandals during the silent film era.
Treat every weapon as if it loaded. Never point a poentially loaded weapon at anyone. Keep every weapon secured until needed. Keep weapons pointed down range. These are rules everyone even on a film set. Never trust anyone always check the weapon yourself.
Marilyn Monroe was murdered by JFKs people because of his affair with him. When I heard that James Dean was dead I cried for days. I was born after his death but I'd seen his movies when I was s kid and had the worst crush.
"Monroe was killed by JFK's people"
yeah, you might want to loosen that tin foil hat a bit.....
So many dark stories and accidents. Awful. Marylin's death,Heath,Crow. I think Alec is innocent. Lives are ruined. I like the story about Hattie :) So nice of Clark Gable too
Aurora CO? That was a tragedy.
Brandon and the Alec Baldwin thing are scarily similar
You forgot to mention the serial killer that was in the movie The Exorcist. He was 8n the hospital scenes, and played the x-ray tech. That was his actual job, and that's how he got the part. He killed several gay men, and this was happening while making the movie.
With the Wayne movie, one thing that is often over looked is the smoking and health habits of cast and crew. This was a different time. All of them chained smoked and did not have the healthiest eating habits
Wayne was also a horrid racist.
Right!! Hollywood made smoking glamorous. A lot of those stars died of cancer.
How is what happened on the set of The Crow different from what happened on the set of Rust involving Alec Baldwin? I don't recall any one person being vilified for the accidental killing of Brandon Lee but Alec Baldwin seems to be going through a lot with the accidental killing of the camera lady and shooting of the director who was standing right behind her. While I believe in justice for the victims of both tragic accidents, it seems to me that the emphasis should be on making sure something like this never EVER happens again!!
Robert Wagner did it
