We hope you enjoy our video, and also we have started a second channel to run along with this one focusing on News And Events going on in the world of science fiction. We call our second channel the Cosmic Corps Chronicle. Please check it out, and we hope you enjoy our video. Thank you so much for watching, and your continued support. Have a Great Galactic Day.

Ridley Scott forgot to mention the visual style of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" for certain scenes. "Alien" owes to a lot of different films. "Alien" is a sci-fi/horror masterpiece and "It! The Terror From Beyond Space" is a fun 1950's sci-fi B movie classic. Enjoyed this video and love both of these films. Thanks!
@cayoooga
I'm glad you enjoyed our video. I have to admit, I watched "IT" a couple of days before I started making this video. I loved "IT" when I was a kid, but I had not seen that movie in years, so I watched it and I agree with you, that movie is still fun to watch. Thank you again for your comment and your contined support of both of our channels, and stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a great day.
Mike
Thanks, I should add there are many similarities to "planet of the vampires" by Mario bava too, the ship designs, alien signals, giant alien skeletons, lots of stuff!!❤
@Torgo-and-the-Lucifer-Cat
Thank you for your comment, and I hope you enjoyed our video. Someone else had pointed out the Planet of the Vampires connection. I have not seen that movie in years. But I do remember that I enjoyed it tremendously. Now I need to go check out Planet of the Vampires again. Thank you again for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a great day.
Mike
Glad you pointed that out. Planet of the Vampires is one I watch every 3 to 4 months. Love it!
IT the Terror from Beyond Space and The Thing from Another World are 2 of my favorite 50s sci fi movies.
Didn't realize till much later that Alien was inspired by the 2 classic sci fi movies of the 50s. One if the actors in It was Dabs Greer he was in everything from The Adventures of Superman to The Green Mile as the older version of Tom Hanks character.
@worry2much
Thank you so much for your comment. I never put it together that the actor that portrayed an older version of Tom Hanks in the green mile was in the Adventures of Superman. That's some great Movie/TV trivia. I watched the Adventures of Superman all he time when I was a kid. Thank you for that nugget of wisdom, thats very interesting. Thank you again for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi to come. Have a great day.
Mike
Wonderful retrospective! So many great memories with ‘79’s Alien and IT! (1958). It’s always interesting to see how things made previously can inform projects made later - thanks again!
@UncleScorch
I'm glad you enjoyed out retrospective. I watched both of these movies right before I started doing my initial research for the video. In the case of "It", I hadn't seen that movie in decades, so I needed a refresher. Both movies are fun, both movies have great action. And you are correct, it is always interesting to see how older projects can influence modern one. Thank you again for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi to come. Have a great day.
Mike
I support your channel and love your content. Thanks
@alexisnicole3965
Thank you so much again for you supportive comment, it is greatly appreciated. You have been a great supporter of this channel right from the beginning, and now that we have expanded a bit by adding the Cosmic Corps Chronicle, the Sci-Fi and More News and Events channel, you have become one of the early supporters there as well and I just can't thank you enough for your ongoing patronage. So thank you again, and stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a wonderful day.

9 years old! Hell, I was 30 when it came out. Scared me to death. When I was 9 I couldn’t handle Frankenstein.
Dad wasn't thinking when he took me to see Alien.
Yeah, same here, brother.
@theScytheofGod
Thank you for your comment. Yeah my father, his heart was in the right place, but I don't think he was prepared for the kind of horror that Alien was built for. I really think he believed it was more like Star Wars. But I could be wrong. But I don't think I'm wrong, lol. Anyway, thank you again for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a great day.
Mike
To be fair, nobody could really expect that Alien was what it was when they went to see it. It was such a new experience.
Still think you're luckier than me. My folks didn't understand not bring a 6-7 year old boy to R rated movies in the 70's. All of them.@@scifiandmore
The face of "IT!" reminded me of the face of a vampire bat. Parts (especially the tail) of the xenomorph in "Alien" brought to my mind of fossilized dinosaur bones. When I first heard the story behind "Alien," I thought, "Okay, the story was borrowed from "IT! The Terror from Beyond Space." That was alright by me. I liked both films. Thanks, Scifi and More.
It was and still is a good movie.
@11004bill,
Thank you for your comment, and I hope you enjoyed our video. I will not disagree on that one. I actually watched it again a couple of days before I made this video, and it just took me back to those great times I had as a kid watching it the first. It will always be a favorite of mine. Thank you again for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi to come. Have a great day.
Mike
A masterpiece.
Imo both the best horror movie and science fiction movie ever made 🍻
As many times i watch it on tv when i was a child. I refused to watch it aline! Lol😅😂@@scifiandmore
I did the same. I just watched IT Terror from Beyond Space yesterday! It is a great movie. Made the connection to Alien immediately!
Nice work. Glad you bring up VOYAGE OF THE SPACE BEAGLE. It surely influenced O'Bannon and the writers of IT! You were 9 when you first saw ALIEN? I was quite a bit older and it scared me so much, I went back two more times in one week to see it again. ALIEN remains one of my top favorites. (By the way "The Necronomicon" (Necro: Dead, Nomicon: name, was invented by H.P. Lovecraft)
@jaymacintyre1777
Thank you for your comment it is greatly appreciated. Yes sir, I was 9 when I first saw Alien, and I had mentioned the Jump Scare Scene from Alien in this video. And that was no joke for me. The first time I saw that I jumped right out of my seat. And later, even though you know its coming, I still get surprised by it. Personally, I never read The Space Beagle. I did read through the plot and synopsis when I was making this video and it seems like a book I would really enjoy. I talk about movies and TV shows a lot on this channel, but every now and then there is a book that bridges the gap, especially for this specific video, that needs to be incorporated or you wind up leaving a big hole in your research. I did something similar on my "Top 10 1950s Part 2" video where I brought up the book "After Worlds Collide" as the sequel to "When Worlds Collide". It is a true sequel, but it was never made into a movie. So that gap had to be filled with the book version. That would have been a great movie had it been made. Thank you so much for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a great day.
Mike
I never saw "It! The Terror From Outer Space", but did see "alien" and it scared the heck out of me,
especially when it burst from the stomach of that crew member.
..gahhhhhhhhhhh
Geiger was amazing.
I also can't forget Sigourney Weaver...who could? :) Zoweee.

@rikspector
Rik, welcome back to the channel my friend, and as always thank you so much for your comment and your continued support of our channel. I hadn't seen "IT" in years, so a couple of days before I started making this video I sat down and watched it again. And for me, that movie is still fun, and a great movie to fill up 1 hour and 6 minutes of a rainy afternoon. The movie is actually pretty short, but for being short, it keeps you going. Check it out if you get the chance. I'm not sure if its on RUclips, I would suspect it is. I know for sure you can rent it on Amazon Prime. As far as the Alien franchise goes, for me Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) are the hallmarks of the franchise. The Alien movies, in my opinion, have never reached the level of horror they did in Alien, and the level of action the they did in Aliens. That's why I'm pretty excited for the upcoming Alien Romulus, and the idea of getting back to the Alien roots. Also, we just launched a second Sci-Fi and More channel to follow movie news, general Sci-Fi News, and events involving Sci-Fi. We call the channel, the "Cosmic Corps Chronicle", I've attached the link below. I only have a couple of videos there currently, but I only launched it yesterday. @GordonBeckles
Thank you for your comment, and I hope you enjoyed our video. I totally forgot about the ELP Giger Album cover, and your right that album cover is unsettling. I had not seen "IT" in years, so a couple of days before I made this video I rewatched it just so I could be thorough and I have to say, watching that movie in my 50's today was still just as great as the first time I saw it. If your a fan of that movie I feel like it will always be near and dear for fans, even though it hasn't really aged well. Alien on the other hand, despite being made in 1979, it still holds up, or maybe its just near and dear to me, lol. Anyway, thank you again for your comment, it is greatly appreciated, and if you havve an opportunity we just launched our Sci-Fi and More Newxs and Events Channel on RUclips, we call it the "Cosmic Corps Chronicle" I've posted the link to the channel here. Two awesome sci fi classics that would make a great double feature!
It is funny you say that. When I was making this video, I thought the same thing. I would pay money to see this two together in a double feature. Thank you for your comment, and stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi to come. Have a great day.
Both are really good movies, I saw It as a kid in the 70s, then Alien a few years later and not long ago again saw It as an adult and realized wow it's a really good movie and one can see the back bone of Alien in there without trying too hard.
@alvermette218
Thank you for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. I agree with you both movies are really good. Alien still stands up today. It has aged very well and it looks like with the upcoming Alien Romulus movie, that the producers are going to try and bring Alien back to its roots, so I'm interested to see what comes from that. Thank you again for your comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed our video. Stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi to come. Have a great day.

My mom took me to see Alien when I was 11. I loved everything about it.
That also doesn't seem so bad when you consider she took me to The Exorcist when I was 5.
I really like Edward Cahn's "It", but my favorite of his would have to be Invasion of the Saucer Men.
It came with extra cheese... :)
I was going to go to bat for Dan O'Bannon here, but someone already beat me to it on the thread it seems.
His contributions to the project were invaluable and numerous.
BTW, H.R. Giger is pronounced "Geeger" in case it comes up in the future.
@indyspotes3310
Welcome back to the channel my friend, and as always thank you for your comments, they are greatly appreciated. Invasion of the Saucer Men was just a fun movie. That is an interesting one though. Depending on who you talk to, people either love it or hate it. I just think its fun to watch. There was so much that I could have added regarding Dan O'Bannon in this video, but you start to get pressed against the wall for time. A lot of my videos are 25-35 minutes long. Far longer than most attention spans. So you have to cut corners I guess. But not to the point that you that you damage the research that you have in it. I would rather leave something out, in place of having false facts. And I'm not perfect, nor am I a professional film maker. I just enjoy Sci-Fi, and making these videos just because I'm a fan. I haven't replied to the earlier comment you referred to quite yet, I'm getting there. But to the points he was making, he was absolutely correct. And I'm sure, as you pointed out, that you were going to share a lot of the same things regarding O'Bannon. Anyway, thank you again for your comment my friend, they are always appreciated. The good news is that people interested in this sort of content have the attention span of an adult, so add what you think is relevant and empty both barrels.
@indyspotes3310
I have to say, I can not argue with your logic. And that is a good point. At the very least I could break the content into two videos. I finished a Battlestar Galactica series not that long ago. And I did just that because I kept coming up with more and more content to include in the video that I was forced to break it into three videos, and still there was so much to explore.

Gino was treated as Dallas/deleted scenes...
I grew up with the movies Them & The Thing From Another World & Earth VS The Flying Saucers as a kid watching it on TV on Monstervision because of my dad & he would always talk about the movie "It" while we were watching "The Thing" because he said it was a scarier alien than the 7 foot man made out of a 🥕 in the original "The Thing" my dad also said that It was actually like 8 feet tall even though he wasn't my dad just wanted to think he was lol!!!!! I never got to see It! The Terror From Beyond Space as a kid because it only came on TV randomly at like 2:30am & id always fall asleep before it came on so i always had to watch the evening monster movies like i named up above!!!! That always made the movie "It" into something that never left my interest over the decades because of my dad & Because it came on so late at night for some reason which i actually find so cool especially as a adult the fact that it only came on TV at 2am made it mythical to me as a kid❤️
I grew up in the Detroit area and we had Creature Feature that came on Saturday Afternoons, but we also had Chiller Theater that came on well after midnight and they would run the "Darker" older Sci-Fi movies from the 50s-60s and the old horror films. My dad played in a weekend bad, and I would stay up late to watch those because my dad would come home and watch them with me late on Saturday nights. Most of the time I couldn't stay awake, I was too young. But when I did make it, my dad would watch them with me until I fell asleep, and then get yelled at by my mom for letting me stay up late, and watching horror movies, lol.
Mike
@@scifiandmore I was born in 87 & lived in Wisconsin so I remember my dad telling me about Chiller Theater but never actually got a chance to see it myself unfortunately but yes I can definitely relate to everything else u just said ❤️
Plot twist : the fossilized space jockey in Alien is actually *It! The Terror From Beyond Space* with a giant Face hugger on top of it !!!!! 😂😂😂😂
That's a pretty good plot twist actually, and other than the size of the space jockey in Alien, the configuration of the space jockeys face/helmet you can kind of see it.

@@scifiandmore It's Popcorn time!
IT was a very exciting nail-biter when I first saw it in a theater on its original release. Kids (AND adults) in the theater were genuinely scared, even given the terribly limited budget and shooting schedule that had been allotted to its making. I still love that film and its dark, shadowy black and white mood. As a gig fan of the film that seems certainly to have been inspired in part by IT, ALIEN, I was not long after pleased to find myself deeply involved in the making of its sequel, ALIENS (and more recently contributed to the upcoming ROMULUS). Seems it all paid off in the long run have willingly subjected my young self to that fun/terror movie, IT THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE.
(BTW, Bixby wrote 4 episodes of ST:TOS. AND, note, the producers of that show also wanted to adapt IT into an episode of Trek, even going so far as to work up some treatments Another little bit of trivia: Both IT and STAR TREK TV series shared the same script supervisor for quite a number of episodes.)
There are some vague similarities, but there are a lot more (blatant) similarities between Aliens and Them!
@harnois75
Thank you for your comment and hope you enjoyed our video. I am not going to disagree with you on that. In fact there are a lot more similarities between Alien and a number of science fiction films. But for this video, I just wanted to keep it between "IT" and Alien, otherwise this video had the potential to get a lot longer, lol. Thank you again for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. Dan o'bannon remarked "we didnt steal from anybody, we stole from everybody"
@denverprator5806
Thank you for your comment, and we hope you enjoyed our video. There is a lot of truth to that statement. And it's not unique to Sci-Fi. I mean if you think about it, there are really only so many stories you can tell before you are "Taking or Copying" something that has already been done and putting your spin or your story to that particular idea. Me personally, I'm all for it, so long as it is done well. If people were so hung up on ideas being recycled by numerous movie makes, screenplays and artists, we would have a mere fraction of the Sci-Fi movies we have today. Excellent comment. Again thank you, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi coming soon. Have a great day.
Mike
Reminds me of the quote that composers often steal from others. Great composers steal with both hands.
Now compare ALL the remakes... The Thing, Queen of Outer Space, Duel, Jaws, and every other movie with the storyline of Humans being in an environment they are not attuned to, like the artic or another planet or the desert where a mistake will kill them, while having to fight for their lives against an opponent that os nearly indestructible.
When I first watch Alien I thought of it ! terror from space which i watch on a creature feature show as a kid
I seen it on sir grave on one Saturday afternoon lol

Thank you for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And I have to ask, are you referring to the old "Sir Graves Ghastly Presents"? Because if you are that takes me back. I was to young to watch Sir Graves when it started out, but somewhere towards the very end of the 70's or the beginning of the 80's, I can't remember for sure, but before Sir Graves was no longer broadcast I was able to catch a few of his broadcasts. WOW, now thats how you do a deep cut going back in time in the Wayback Machine, lol. Thank you again for your comment, and stay tuned there is more Sci-Fi to come. Have a great day.

Thank you for your comment and I hope you enjoyed our video. I actually had not heard of It came without a warning. So I did just a quick search and it looks like it was a movie that came out in 1980, that was described as a low budget "Predator" style movie. Not sure if that is the one you are reffing too, but that was the only one that I had found. Thank you again for your comment, and stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a great day.

E.T. came out after Alien. But Star Wars before Alien, however most likely made concurrently when Star Wars was in production.

You give entirely too much credit to Scott, it was Dan O'Bannon Ronald Shusett who drove the story and look of the film. O'Bannon hired Ron Cobb, french artist Jean Giraud (Mobius) and who brought HR Geiger to the attention of Scott to create the look of not only the Alien, the derelict and the LV-426 planetoid, which in the original version was a dying plant with a dead ancient civilization. As they struggled to come up with the look for what would later be dubbed the Xenomorph, O'Bannon who had worked on a unproduced Dune film with Geiger and had fallen in love with his work, took a copy of the Necronomicon to Scott to show him what it should look like.

I enjoy comments that have good quality information in them like yours. I could have gone on for days about O'Bannon, but the video would have been a lot longer, or I would have had to break it into two videos, which I may do a follow up to this one. If I do a second follow up to this one, or just a. stand alone Alien video, I might want to reach out to you to pick your brain, if you would be alright with that? But I appreciate the comment, and thank you again. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi to come, have a great day.

The perfect Organism....
Best ever...
In Voyage of the Space Beagle , it is a creature later in the story called Ixtl which resembles the alien story more; including the business with the eggs. Coeurl is more like the salt vampire from star trek, if anything - only instead of salt it needs potassium (phosphorous in the original story Black Destroyer).
IT!, Alien, and The Thing are all movies thrown on top of the same skeleton. I've examined them many times and find the similarities are too great to ignore. And that's ok! Writers since the dawn of the written word have used other writers as inspiration for their work, and when they come up with something spectacular, it works! It doesn't work if they lack talent or do a blatant ripoff, and audiences generally know it.
@NathanTarantlawriter
Thank you for your comment it is greatly appreciated. I absolutely agree with your assessment, and in fact I just replied to another similar comment regarding this subject, and I am all for the reutilization of ideas if they are done properly and proper thought has been put into them to make something unique. I had done a three part series on Battlestar Galactica, and in that series I pointed out the 2oth Century Fox/George Lucas lawsuit against Battlestar Galactica for plagiarism and stealing ideas from Star Wars to use n Battlestar Galactica. In that particular case, and this is the best description I had ever hear regarding this idea of alleged reused ideas, was that the court had ruled in the initial ruling that there was no plagiarism or stealing of ideas because the premiss for both franchises fell under the "Intellectual Abstract" and it is in fact that "Abstract" that could be show going back to the 1930's with the old Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials. So I am right there with you, if done right, it works. Excellent comment, thank you so much it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi to come. Have a great day.

There is not much talk about the actual first science fiction released film Rocketship XM, 1950. Looking at this film
and Destination Moon ,Rocketship XM holds up better.. top photography, good performances, excellent score. You care what happens to the crew because of the believable script. And a surprising ending.
I love that your dad took you to see Alien. My mum took me to see that and The Incredible Melting Man. She knew they were a bit too 'old' for me, but she had a very open mind for such things as that👽🤖🪐
@jonathanmartin-ives8665
Thank you for your comment. Thats great that your Mom took you to see Alien. My mom was not a big movie goer. I think the last movie I saw with my mom was Herbie Goes Bananas in 1980. A long time ago. But my father and I would watch the original Star Trek series in the early 1970's on this little beat up old black and white television, and that, more than anything else, is probably what got me hooked on Science Fiction. Well that, and then Star Wars, Star Trek the motion picture, Alien, Planet of the Apes, Space 1999, the Six Million Dollar Man, literally everything science fiction that Glen Larson put together in the 70's-80's. So I was at the right age to be brainwashed by all the science fiction bombarding me, lol. But I loved it and still do. I actually just found the 1979 Flash Gordon Cartoon I used to watch when I was a kid and watched a couple of the episodes just to be nostalgic. It is still fun to watch even in my 50's, lol. & James Cameron on the other hand sneakily stole his entire idea of Aliens from the movie "Them" !!!! He just didn't tell anyone 😂😂😂
If u watch both films u will see the similarities , especially in the movie "Them"
Funny how one got his idea from a movie called "It" that's a about one monster & the other got his ideas from one called "Them" which is about several monsters 😂😂😂
Alien - It
Aliens - Them
Makes sense when u think about it 🤔
I grew up with the Alien franchise as a kid while ironically growing up with It & Them as a kid thanks to my father ❤
Thank you for your comment, and I hope you enjoyed our video. I absolutely agree with everything you just wrote. But I think best of all was the Alien-IT, Aliens-Them part of your comment. That is literally the simplest and best description I have ever seen referencing these movies. I'm with you, I was a kid and grew up with Alien(s), and I would watch the 50s Sci-Fi on Saturday afternoons on the local Creature Feature. Excellent comment. Have a great day.

@@scifiandmore I didn't have Creature Features or Shock Theater but I did have Monster vision on TNT & SvenGhoulie on public access TV❤️❤️❤️❤️
