  • First of all, a huge thank you to all of you who lifted my spirits with such positive messages after my last ACC video. As you could probably tell, I was feeling pretty deflated after that LFM race and wasn’t sure I wanted to do any more. But I’ve had so many supportive comments from Low Fuel Motorsport sim racers, that it’s really restored my faith in this sim.
    So with that in mind, I’m back to start a new quest… to escape the LFM rookies division! I need to do 10 races, and have a safety rating of 4.0. I’m still way off the pace, so this race is all about staying out of trouble…

    Thanks for sharing. I began myself last week with LFM. License was easy, but then comes the rookie races.
    Oulton park was a disaster . I qualified on the middle of the pack. You can do anything, you will be sent out of the track.
    4 dives bombs on me during the race. I repaired the car, but it is not fun a all.
    Yesterday, we had a very pleasant race until the last lap at zolder.
    A guy in front of us got out of the track. I reduced my speed in order to avoid him, and immediately a guy behind me thought it was a nice opportunity to overtake me .
    We had a contact , we all wnt off the track, then come back in the middle of the track, and then it all finished in a big mess.
    I really don't like that a all. First my race have been ruined, then I unfortunately ruined the race of other guys, which is something I don't like.
    I will keep on trying, but will surely not keep on going like that on LFM. My current opinion is that it is a very nice platform, but on the current state it is almost impossible to race.
    Of course I could try to start last and try to survive, but it is not my goal in simracing.
    Enjoy your simracing journey, that's all that count.

      Ahh, sorry to hear you had some rough experiences. I have had exactly the same happen to me, as what you described. Sadly it does happen, and on some more difficult tracks (like Oulton) it happens more often. I try not to let bad races get me down, and I try to expect them so they don’t disappoint me too much. If I have a couple of good races, I prepare myself that I’m due a bad race. Then, if I have 1 bad race for every 2 good races over a longer-term period, I’m happy with that 😃 Keep going, there will be some good races around the corner!

      @@chrisrogerssimracing No problem. I come from the good old days of "Grand Prix Legends" ,so I have seen many things in simracing . It is a pity that there is so many nervous guys on LFM (after three race I am always rookie, but I suppose it is the same in about all races. The platform is great , and the level very nice. Plus the grid are almost always full. I personally don't care about the rating ans do on. Just have a nice fun race when I find the time.
      We just should have a system like in Grand prix legends. One contact, race is over. This is the best moderation tool !
      I will keep for sure keep on going, but i have to report all the incident where I am involved.

    Hey Chris. You are using the default aggressive set-up right? Your tire pressures are too low. You need to be around 27.4-27.7 usually. Try adjusting the tire pressures next time, just about one or two clicks just to see if after a few laps you're in that range. Tire pressures are very important in ACC. Keep at it. Entertaining as always. :)

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  2 года назад +1

      Ahh thanks, yeah running default aggressive with the TC ramped up. I thought I’d got my tyre pressures good during my practice session - but now I realise my error. I practiced on single player, hot temperatures at midday. Tyre pressures were adjusted accordingly, but then I joined the race server and it was 9pm at night and a lot colder. So I’m guessing that made my adjusted tyre pressures useless 🤦🏻‍♂️ lesson learned… adjust tyres based on the race server conditions next time!! Thanks for the advice, much appreciated as always

      Yeah I keep trying to remind myself of that, to give me optimism that I can be competitive in this sim. But then I remember how much time we put into practising for that endurance, and how long it took me to get my lap times down. It took weeks, not days! And I seem to remember having a setup that felt a lot better too, particularly helping the car take the kerbs a little better. At the moment, for my ACC hopes, I’m 20% optimistic and 80% cynical!

    One setting you might want to look at is Caster in the tyres section. Increasing caster increases wheel camber throughout the corner, as well as gives you stronger force feedback, and the default setups have pretty low caster

    Cris your commentary is second to none, very unique and very good.
    Bit of advice get your tyre pressures up to 27.7 by increasing or decreasing the tyre pressures or closing and opening the brake ducts
    This is all dependant on the outside and track temperature, you will find you have way more grip.
    In this video your tyre pressures never got above 27.1 meaning your losing a ton of time.

      Thanks man, cheers for watching! Ahh yeah, setups in ACC have been a real struggle for me… I’ve always just hopped in and run default setups in other sims, but I’ve quickly realised that doesn’t do you any favours in ACC! Nice one Chris, and well done to avoid the carnage!
    Don't worry too much about setups; as a general rule you can choose the default aggressive setup (which are good, as a base) and lower the brake bias a bit, and you're golden. Just try and dial in the tyre pressures after that, as that's more important than anything else really

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  2 года назад

      Thanks David, yeah I ran the default aggressive but didn’t make any brake bias changes. I’ll give that a try next time. Also realised I made a basic mistake with the tyre pressures… I did adjust them, but in a different session with hot temperatures at midday. The race was a lot colder and at 9pm, so I’m guessing that’s why my tyres were so bad?!

    Another enjoyable video to watch Chris, thank you. After Spa in the Ferrari I tried some other cars and found them a lot easier to handle in ACC and a bit more familiar to other sims, although, like you, ACC felt completely different still. I've actually started to really love ACC in recent weeks, still not fast though, but that's standard not matter what the sim. There are setups for car/track combos on the Internet, most not paid which help a lot and like others have said pressures seem to be vital to get around 27.6 ish. Please don't give up with ACC though, it's been really good viewing as with everything you do, plus, even though it's obviously frustrating to you, it gives a lot of encouragement to others who struggle with the same issues.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  2 года назад

      Ahh thanks Jason, that’s kind of you to say. I guess if I’m going to experiment with different cars, now is the time to do so, before I get too used to the Ferrari. I did have a search online for any free setups to try, but couldn’t find any for the Ferrari/Snetterton combo. I’m planning to stick with it though. In a way, it’s a fun feeling to start from the very beginning again. Yeah I’m exactly the same. I’m a bit disillusioned with iRacing, and the RaceRoom ranked servers are pretty empty these days. So ACC is my only alternative option for competitive grid sizes. Lots of people recommended getting out of rookies as quickly as possible - so forgetting about good results, and just focus on safety rating. There are a lot of very fast drivers in rookies but, as this video shows, not all of them are in control! So they’re always stuck in rookies. • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  2 года назад

      I think the most time gained/lost is from corner entry and exit. The quick drivers find a really smooth line and carry a lot more corner speed (so get on the gas a lot quicker on exit). I’d suggest watching some fast hot lap videos on RUclips, and study the way they take corners. Where they brake, the line they take, when they get on the gas. Also worth finding someone on RUclips who shares their setup. I’ve just found Sky194, and he shares loads. A good setup may help you find a later braking point than a default setup, and improve your cornering. But stability is always best… if the car feels smoother on default, stick with that while you practice - and then start experimenting with setups later. Hope that helps… good luck! Let me know how you go 😃

      I did my licence qualifying run on Hungaroring. It was pretty difficult, ended up finding a time of day when the server was quiet so there weren’t as many cars on track. I’ve now got a bit closer to the pace, but it takes far more practice than in other sims. Also, once I’ve practiced a bit using default setup, I’ve been trying some free setups online to see what difference they make. Sky194 on RUclips is a good place to start. He posts loads of hotlap combos and always makes his setup available to download. Sometimes, these setups help me go a second quicker.

I've tried a bunch of different cars (I've settled on the Ferrari), and there are some tracks I do really well on regardless of the car - but I can't seem to reach the pace I need at Misano. I've watched other drivers - studied track guides and practiced until I'm dizzy, but I still can't get there. Argh!!!

      @@studio9guy Some tracks are just like that. Snetterton for me - no matter what I try, I’m nowhere near the pace. Must admit I’ve never raced Misano in any sim, so think I’d really struggle there too.

    When you say you're using the default setup, do you mean the default safe, or agressive setup? The aggressive is more than enough to have pretty good pace.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  2 года назад

      Yeah, I ran default aggressive. But I got my tyre pressures completely wrong… set it up in hot conditions, but didn’t adjust it for this colder nighttime race. Think that’s what cost me. Got another 7 races to try and escape these rookies! But need to get way faster in that time 👍

    Hey Chris, Please keep going, I miss MW Commentaries, he was the last one to have a Passion for Motor Sport, and you're filling that gap. Maybe check out Dalkings "BASIC MOTEC GUIDE EP1", it set me on the right path to at least get consistent and improve lap times, with very little brain input. atb J.

      @@chrisrogerssimracing I also heard you mention not having time to work on setups. I’m in the same boat, and there is no shame in buying setups. The Coach Dave Academy has very good setups on offer. I highly recommend them. Also, I often steal setups from RUclips videos. Hugo Merlhes has several videos and shows his 488 setups at the end. Cheers from Texas!

    Well you need to be running the setup hack, as everyone else will be and tyre temps are critical, so tap up someone on SCB to brief you, without doing this it is pointless racing, you will just go backwards. I don't do ACC so can't help. Looks very much like the iRansom video's I watch, cars sliding off the track here, there & everywhere, makes for good viewing I guess. See you even have to drive it like iRansom and just hide, off the racing line and drive around like the competition has Monkey Pox, not racing in my eyes but whatever turns you on.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  2 года назад

      And these are exactly the reasons why I’ve mostly avoided ACC up to now. I just don’t enjoy it! But I’m really struggling for online sim options right now… RaceRoom ranked is empty, and I’m a bit disillusioned with iRacing. ACC is the only option left for decent-sized daytime grids (my preferred racing time is daytime). So I’m trying to give it more of a chance to win me over. So far, it hasn’t.

      @@chrisrogerssimracing I feel your pain Chris, I too struggle to find a race that's worth attempting. RR is slow during the day and at night I just seem to get murdered. Been sticking to SCB races lately and dipping into rF2 & AC. rF2 doesn't cater for ranked racing but I do believe (ask Walt) AC has quite a large online racing scene. If you go to online in Content Manager there are some tabs that will lead you to a large online community. Crazy that it's the 2 oldest sims that give an option and all the latest and greatest coming up short, imo.

      @@PaulMartIn-dm5oi Yeah it’s a pretty poor state of affairs, when you consider how many sim racers there are across the world, that there are so few genuine online racing opportunities to choose from. I’ve really enjoyed the AC races I’ve done in SCB lately, and even the ACC ones too. But I do always like the challenge of racing against ‘the unknown’ - trying to assess who’s safe to race with and who isn’t (and usually ending up cowardly giving positions away). Maybe the options will get better in the autumn 🤞

      @@chrisrogerssimracing Don't let someone not playing the game and blabbering about setup hacks kill your motivation. There are no setup hacks in ACC. Putting it to default aggressive will make the car somewhat competitive even for top split (wonder if you were running safe here? You were on a fuel-saving map for some reason, that's not the default aggressive map). Also, spend three laps of practice ahead of the race to get your tyre pressures in order (LFM has no free practice, but do it in single player, save the setup and adjust for different temperature. One degree = one click roughly). Coupled with the weird engine map, your pressures in this race did you no favours at all. And if you find that the default aggressive is a struggle on some track (it varies how up to date the defaults are), give me a shout ahead of your next race and I'll spend 10 minutes to make you a very driveable setup.
