  • Hot Water Beach is on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. About 1.5 hrs from Auckland with stunning scenery to enjoy along the way.
We hightailed it from Auckland to dig holes in the sand and experience the natural hot thermal water. A highlight though was actually playing in the sea in-between the warm pools and crashing through the waves. It reminded us of the cold coastline waves back in Scotland.
A truly wonderful experience, loved by all.
GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
Don't forget a spade! One per person or between two is sufficient however, you can hire them from the local cafe if necessary.
The whole experience is free however you do have to pay for parking in the area which is only a couple of dollars.
Best time to go is at LOW TIDE or two hours either before or after, so make sure you check the tide timetable before you go.
Look for the rocks about 200m along the beach from the car park and dig here.
The water is VERY hot in places, i.e. too hot to sit in so bring a bucket to add cool sea water and be very careful with the kids.
There are free public showers at the beach to get rid of all the sand when you're finished.
