A pretty good, brief and instructive video on metal investment casting ! This video is obviously shot in a good plant, it summarizes the basics of the investment casting process which is one of the best and oldest techniques in manufacturing intrinsic, detailed & complex precision metal parts and components as well as finished products in reasonably large quantity, fast and near-net-shape. With near-net-shape we mean initial production of the item is very close to the final (net) shape, reducing the need for surface finishing. When we say you can produce parts fast, we do not mean the process is simple. To the contrary, the process has many steps and is labor intensive. Some parts that are complex are hard to machine and investment casting is a good fit for making them in the hundreds and thousands of pieces within a reasonable time. No big mold fees, nor weeks of mold machining times are involved as in die casting. Therefore under some circumstances, investment casting is preferred to metal die casting, because you can have your parts faster and in lower quantities which is prohibitively expensive if die casting is used for low quantity. If you use die casting, you will need at least a few weeks at most plants to get the die casting mold be made and you won't have any parts until the mold is ready and installed. The technique is called investment casting, because the ceramic mold is "sacrificed" or "invested" during the casting process. Another name for investment casting is "lost wax casting", because the wax is heated and removed from inside the shell prior to pouring in the metal. Plants mostly reclaim the molten wax and reuse it. Thank you to all those at Pennsylvania Precision Cast Parts for producing and posting such a valuable resource that shows all steps. The dudes at 2:23 probably don't want to wear a respirator because its "too hot" or "gets in the way" but are going to regret later in life not wearing one.
I work in the ceramic coating room at my plant I make pretty decent money been there a year this Friday. I started at 17$ in finishing and now I'm at 21.50$ in the coating room. Im in my mid 20s and i like the job. Any one else who has worked this type of job. How did you like it. And is it good money in the long run? I know it's hard to get people especially young people into this kind of work.
@Robert Crumb I just stumbled across them one day driving around by my house. Im in metro Detroit so lot of places hiring. Started off being a grinder and the finishing inspector. Worked way up. Still there. Still like the job.

It could also be that their employer just doesn't give a shit about their employee's health.
