I concur, Tac with that Thai Machete needs to happen, especially cause it'd be sharp as fuck. You both rock, you're my 2 fave knife reviewers. One shows me exactly what to expect out of the box, and the other shows me what the ultimate potential of a blade looks like. Hope you both keep doing what you do.

That thing looks absolutely sick. Not a fan of 3cr13 either, but machete makers are starting to push it. With the thickness of this Schrade machete, it should be solid. You certainly put it through it's paces. You got some good sword skills Tac. You must have studied some Eskirima. I dig it, and this blade is right up my alley too. Thanx for the review.

Hey tac, found ur channel last year and love it. I'm from the suburbs outside of buffalo and I find it ridiculous what new york state is doing as far as classifying certain blade lengths as deadly weapons. I carry the camp 10 on my pack when I hike into the woods and I worry that I'll get harassed by the cops for doing so. If u think about it ur house key could b used as a deadly weapon if used right. I view my blades as tools no different from a hammer or screwdriver that has a purpose and I handle them as seriously as I would a firearm. This state needs to butt out, it's so ridiculous. Anyway keep up the great work. I love tac unfiltered too btw.

Like you said, upgrade the steel. But like you also said, it survived. Amazing tool from Schrade and for less than 40 bucks. Love it. Best Schrade ever. PS. I like that you test far beyond normal use, you treat em mean. So if anyone does damage their own, they did something wrong (or got a defective product). Good job.

  • @davesunhammer4218
    @davesunhammer4218 7 лет назад +1

I posted this over at PreparedMind101 as well because both of your reviews encouraged me to buy one.... (initiate copy and past)
So I got one of these.... and then had to order another one for my left hand.
Now, the steel for both seems to be good stuff. I've been chopping on an 8" log with both a lot. I don't intend to throw, pry, baton with these but stick to machete work (except the log practice). The edge retention is decent for the steel.
Downside, the first one was decent sharp but the overall "cosmetic" grind job was terrible. the belly curve goes to far so there is an indent before the tip. And the the spine swedge on the right side is a full 1 inch longer than on the left. The second one the grind looks great for a $40 blade. But it came dull as a butter knife. Seriously, met sharper mashed potatoes. And the one that was poorly ground is a half inch longer and at least a 1/16th of an inch wider in profile.
But, as far as I can tell, as long as I keep doing machete things with these blades I will be able to get my Ninja Mountain Man groove on for a long time.
The only reason I wont recommend these is that the one person who gets a bad blade, or breaks it chopping a rock, will turn into a psycho stalker and make my life miserable.
    Happy Blade'n
I will add here that if all you want is to clear some light brush now and then you could pick up a $10 cheapie machete and be just fine. But if you want that brush to cower before the suede that mows like a harvest...

I believe the word used in the original Greek of Luke 22:38 refers to the two swords of the Disciples as makhaira, but this was also a general catch-all term for small(ish) modern arms. Any dagger or short sword, but given the region and time most likely still made of crucible or Damascus steel

Tac. Long time no see. Haven’t seen you since you got the Garrett Industries STX with snaps & straps. How long has that been.?.I am still digging mine. You?I carry a 66-2 in mine. They rounded the muzzle end under a little like I asked them to (Another small detail that keeps fabric from snagging ).Original pachmyer rubber grips were sticky & getting a black mess everywhere. Solvents & lubes broke the rubber down over the years I guess. Came that way 2nd hand. Point is,it gave me a reason to replace the grips with VZ 320s(the smooth ones)in red & black (wood looking g10,Iv gone black & red g10 for classic look on 2 sets I have so far.Thin checkered LOK set on surplus beretta 81 was a big improvement.Mesurments on website didn’t look like a big difference but in the hand…feels a ton better.Glad I took the risk)S&W 66-2 holster & grips all together made for a slick package.live in humid Sandhills of NC. That good quality kydex +smooth grips make that k frame comfortable and on a nylon kore belt it’s all good under almost any tshirt or whatever I want to wear it with. Getting in/out of the truck at the store ect. Shirt slips right over it. I occasionally double check shirt is not hung up if I have a 100% cotton t shirt on that’s completely soaked with sweat. All dry shirts flow right over the revolver & with organic curves of revolvers + med/high ride holster, someone would have to be looking me up & down real hard to see it.Blends right in with love handles & normal body curves I’ve found. Only 1 thing about STX is mine being for a shorter SS 2.5” & heavier gun than the R8,…over time I’ve had to crank the retention down all the way & still not comfortable that it won’t bounce out or get pulled out and lost in the woods(almost did once when I was riding in a trailer behind a friends atv sitting in a folding lawn chair. Beverly hillbillie style.was a rough ride & it was hitting the arm of the chair among other things.rides fine when I’m not going to wild in the woods or just chilling.)Remoil + leather compressing over time is the culprit. Don’t think leaving it in a hot car in the summer is hot enough to melt/warp/effect the kydex/fit..Will inquire….plan on having them tweak the retention when I order something else. Think they can put some heat to the sight channel &get all the retention I need.with plenty more adjustment left on the retention screws & define the trigger guard a little more for good measure. After that is done I’m planning on getting some of the other mounting options. At least try the 1/2 fbi cant for $11 I think it is.that’s not a bad price & think it’ll blend in even more. I have thought a thumb break made of that rubber coated nylon strap stuff that’s used for some IWB holsters with snaps & straps wouldn’t be a bad thing to offer on those holsters. Material would look right at home with the modern/traditional thing GI has going on. Or a hammer thong type maybe. Leather would be fine too. Just thinking about eventual stretching.?.possibly thinner piece of matching leather stitched to some of the nylon stuff or something along those lines. Again, blend right in with GI style. ..know this is 6 years old. Time flys when your having fun. Good seeing you. Will look for more videos. Take care.
PS. Parang not bad. I have a better one to suggest though

Was not a fan of the shoulder strap. Whenever I tried to use it, would never sit properly, no matter where I put the clips on the sheath. Plan on making my own or just weaving my belt through the sheath's long clip-holes. What sharpening method would one use for a machete like this? Thank you for doing a review video!

Hi Tactical. That was fun to watch. Nice to see people get excited about cool blades. I have a lot of knives, besides Schrade, in 8Cr13MoV, a few 9Cr18MoV, AUS-8, and 1095 and so on without a single favorite.
I'd like to see this machete in the same grey colored 1095 steel they use on the SCHF9. I understand they don't want the blade to crack, break or shatter, but I think with a slight tweaking, it would make for a great alternative to a sword for self defense. Maybe you can convince them (Taylor Brands - Schrade) to offer us loyal fans a bargain priced tool for defense.

i had a quick browse online, it seems people are happy with 3cr13 for hard-use knives, axes and pry bars. it doesn't hold an edge as well as other steels but rolls rather than chips in abusive testing. so it's better for blades that will be used rather than hung on a wall and brought out for party tricks.

great video big brother Tac, haven't been on here for a while but I have had the pleasure of recently working with that budget weapon and it performs reasonable but I have to tell you brother Tac, I always hand sharpen my blades that being said, I was helping a good friend with a project and had a perfect opportunity to test this swachette, and it performed great until, I hit a couple of knots needless to say we were working for approximately 7 hours when I went to inspect the blade the top section of the edge had a couple of chips and completely dull but keeping in mind that it is a budget weapon and i must say not great ,but not bad their are alot worse out their keep up the great work big brother Tac,and God bless

That is either based off the kopis or falcuta style. As for that safety concern, just take a file and square it off. As for the sharpness, they probably wanted to focus the sharpness on the main cutting area (the belly).
If people see how indigenous peoples use their machetes, people wouldn't be complaining how to use them.

Well it held up pretty good - for a blade in 3cr13 steel that is.

No... it held up well BECAUSE it's 3Cr13MoV. I could explain why in metallurgical terms but it's only been 3 days since the first review and I'm already sick of explaining it.

Could you link me to these metallurgical terms? This way I won't be asking you to explain things.

Enigma it held up because its got a good heat treatment for the steel it is made of, 3cr is a "soft" but tough steel. I would prefer if schrade started using at least 5cr or preferably 7cr for their machetes and axes, steels that have carbon content similar in the range of 1055 and 1075 and can achieve a better rockwell hardness for edge durability without sacrificing tougnhness.

so i purchased this same machete i love the look of it but mine came dull as a butter knife and the bevel is wayyy of. the right side is far steeper than the left so i will have to do some work to get mine to work properly

Baahahaha! "Pricker in the face, big discrace!" instant classic. I know ppl always talk shit about packing a long machete up here in the north, but that's one reason I like the medium to full size machetes. It's nice to be able to move stuff like briers and poison sumac/oak/ivy without getting into it as much. Marginal weight and space to stay out of shit, to me, are a price I can live with. That being said, I DO love that Schrade is including the shoulder strap on a lot of their bigger blades. I just wish they would have done one on the SCHF45. Awesome vid playboy!

Hi, do you know the machetes: Schrade Priscilla, KERSHAW CAMP 18 "and CRKT Chanceinhell 18". What the best in the 3 choise?
