Admiral William H McRaven is a very interesting man. He lived his life similar to a Herdsman, Rancher, joint Preacher, Evangelist, or Religious Philosopher who needed to defend his own ambitions and faiths. He followed the organizational principles of running and administering a cattle ranch or a kind of herding trade from which he could gain with his journalistic vociferous talents. Rather than producing tangible, guaranteed products, as farmers tilling the land and fisherman, the sea, and the productive engineering industries making guaranteed products, he chose to gather people with different qualities, equivalent to herds of horses, lions and tigers and buffaloes, monkeys, donkeys, and other herd animals, which normally evolve and fend on their own, roaming the natural fertile prairies. He favored, being a herdsman and preacher, and so he spent his time snaring and looping in, training the herd members to produce a common performance in a space with boundary fences around the training areas. He called himself the leader and spent the rest of his life preaching that he was responsible for the actions of the collective herds which he gathered and trained. Then he and others hired the herds out to a zoo, or to a circus to display their performances, or to the grinding industries to do public tasks and tricks when required. This equalization of the natural herds to produce the same performance and their intentional and unintentional actions, needed the right discipline to assist the natural wild herd, adjust to McRaven's equalization program, including taking some to the abattoir when the time came for him to lead them, as the exigencies require.
The philosophy of modern life and its reality may be summarised as follows.
The universe may be looked upon as being made up of various spaces and these spaces could include--.
    (1) The Real universe as is, (2) The contents of the Human Mind, (3)The written languages, (4) The Spoken languages, (5) The mathematical and engineering logic. (6)The sculpted or the painted and photographed version of the universe.
(1)The universal space, which includes our world is the real absolute case, and there is no other truth like it.
What goes on in (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) is not and never includes the exact truth but they are all made up of artificial transformations to produce SYMBOLIC, IMAGES, AND SHADOWS OF REALITY.
The young herds we spoke about are normally snared when young and put to the test where they are tested for their strength. Those who fail the test are trained to ring a bell and are set free to go back to nature and its wild plains and roam the real world to face the natural elements, including a choice of going to university when so young.
All those who pass the test of strength and learn a few tricks are herded together and used for the next ten to twenty years where the trained herd is required to perform in public squares, zoos, circus arenas, remote areas, and other tasks when required to do so by the ring leader who needs to be vociferous, knowing the psychology of the herd, rather than joining in the real work done by the herd.
While I was in the UK attending the University of Newcastle upon Tyne I went down coal mines as far back as 1955, I saw coalminers and pit ponies working the coal face with the pit ponies becoming blind due to the coal dust in their eyes, as they spent their life down there. On the surface around the coal mine, there were the offices that were occupied by the Workers Union leaders, the Management and Finance Officers, and the Legal Structure, who claimed that they were responsible for the coalminers, but when incidents occurred and miners died, or the pit ponies were injured, all that happened included the calling of a Chaplain who organized the burial of the dead coalminer and consoled the widow and family, while the pit ponies were used as dog and cat food. Those coal miners who made it to retiring age were given a miserable pension where they had to go to learn to cultivate the plot of land loaned to them to grow their own vegetables, rear a few chickens, and other crops they learned to cultivate.
For the Workers Union Leaders and the Managers and the Financial Officers, and the CEOs, it was a totally different game, and when the coal mines closed down, it was the coalmen that LIVED IN THE REAL WORLD who suffered and not those so-called vociferous leaders who lived in the symbolic world of the Workers Unions producing shadows of protection, and the Finances, and the Social Services offering images of securities to coalminers, while they had invested their vociferous and human services efforts in seeking those spaces where no tangible and guaranteed products are ever produced but proceeded to live in a modern symbolic world of words in spoken or written form with which they proceeded to paint, their apparent responsibilities
The coalmen who dealt directly with the real coal face and who were still young when the coal mines closed, found it difficult to integrate into real spaces out of the coalmine, but those with a vociferous talent, who always stayed on the surface, did well out of their social training, rather than working the tools down in the coalmines.
Admiral William H McRaven is correct about military personnel reading for a university or a college degree, but he stops short to advise what college degree subject one should follow in a modern world. A little observation would show that there are those who follow and read for, "equal gender", vociferous social servicing, or financial oriented subjects, where they never in their life make any tangible, guaranteed products, or risk their lives to dig out an ounce of coal, and the modern world treats them much better than others who qualify in the technical subjects to work and toil in productive industries, producing tangible guaranteed competitive products, whose technical knowledge has a limited lifespan in the REAL WORLD, hence there is a disadvantage for those who seek to manufacture or maintain tangible products rather than talk about them.
Perhaps it would be wise to look at the old man himself, Admiral William H McRaven, and follow closely in his footsteps and take up journalism or other vociferous subjects, where there is the advantage of permutating and combining words to suit the occasion and the audience at the time, including advocating that war is legitimate and while leadership and responsibilities are often spoken about, when it comes to real terms in the real world of truth,. the leadership and responsibilities remain symbolic and apparent. It is well known that when someone dies due to military intended actions or other unintended mistakes, the responsibilities of the so-called leaders are only met with primitive rituals of consolation and apologies, where the balance of justice is never equalized.
Admiral William H McRaven knows this well, as he experienced it in Afghanistan, with an Afghan father and the loss of his five children, about which he was responsible, and, as it is an issue that matters most, it is normally not said, neither in books nor in public speeches. It seems that when joining the military, those who do not ring the bell during training, have a way out later on by transposing themselves from the real hard world, into spaces of vociferous symbols, images, and shadows of reality, including using tribal rituals to balance what they call justice and responsibility when in real terms, it is only apparent and symbolic.
There are various styles of leaders which would contribute to making good soldiers,. One style is that of William H McRaven and the other is that Dwayne Douglas Johnson and John Felix Anthony Cena, all determined fighters who are admired by the public. ruclips.net/video/ChiLWi-mBvU/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Dhxgf3wOIqY/видео.html The latter seem to be able to do their own training rules and are just as successful in life.

The proof of what was written in the original comment is confirmed by looking at and pondering and analyzing the type of " equal gender, equal rights, and vociferous", Bachelor and Master Degrees offered by some Universities. All those in the Military are advised to consider carefully what was suggested in these comments and to weigh up what Admiral William McRaven did not say and follow in his footsteps. The contents of what a modern university usually provides in the US is shown below and it certainly explains why the production industries in the US are all going to China and India and what will remain in the US, are immigration of mothers and their children, and vociferous military commanders wearing ceremonial uniforms advising the children that " Not MANUFACTURING BEDS, but only folding sheets on beds, polishing buckles and army shoes, and a few hours in hot sand or the icy mud and cold water is really good for you, just in case you need to face and suffer the conditions of war, as in Iraq or Afghanistan or Vietnam, etc, including death through intentional shot at the target, or unintentional mistakes on innocent children, as happened in Afghanistan where one father lost his five innocent children due to the mistake of a US Commander.
To follow in the footsteps of Admiral William McRaven is to be considered with the highest priority while looking at the following university offers shown below, would substantiate the described observations.
If young people ever join the US Military, do not be afraid to ring that bell intended to humiliate you, then go to MAKE AND BUILD a family and live in the natural prairies of the land, but if you are strong enough not to ring it, then follow in Admiral William McRaven footsteps to read for journalism, law, etc. and any of the subjects listed below........... never chose a subject that keeps you working in silence and unobserved in the real world, and preferably join in the spaces when one only handles, and combines, symbols and images and shadows of reality.
