ok so at 1:14 the reason why he kept holding shield and didn't do a move is because you physically aren't capable of reacting to the roy ending his f-tilt unless your reaction time is that of a cat. There's a Beefy Smash Doods video about this but im going to keep it simple. Most humans have about a 16-frame reaction time. Going frame by frame, the Ness' shield breaks 13 frames after roy hit's his shield with f-tilt, meaning that he was unable to react to the f-tilt. If he did somehow react to it, ness doesn't have very good out of shield options, and since it's lylat platform, dash-back jab and dash back f-tilt would cover every option ness has minus spot dodge, in which you can just side-b as rob. dash-back f-smash, fair/bair while fading back would cover every option except up-smash or fair. If I was the ness, I would spotdodge then either drop through platform run off of it to the left, preferably the former to keep stage control and reset to neutral. Projectiles used to do a lot more shield damage, which is why like half of these clips happened.
