Lenny, I'm only 3 minutes in and am so happy (and buzzed)! I had to pause your set to tell you this: I'm having flashbacks of the two times I was lucky enough to be on the ships you were working (both NCL: Getaway & Escape, I think. Dunno. I drank a lot on each.) Anyway, I was inadvertently heckling from the front row both times, like an ash-hole; you're so smart and funny that I was laughing at your punchlines ahead of time as I saw them coming. And you immediately switched to crowd-work mode to deal with me. You recognized that I wasn't intentionally stepping on your lines, and that I could handle your repartee. You've truly ruined me for all other comedians, bc I automatically assume they can handle me. 😂 Wrong! (I'll tell you someday about the one who yelled at me, dropped the mic, and stormed offstage in the middle of his set... oy. I felt terrible, but he needed the experience, clearly.) I digress. You and I hung out after each show with other ship performers late into the night at O'Shehans. I happy provided round after round once I learned your ilk have to pay as you go (which is bs). Remember Rhonda? She was there both times! I was lucky enough to run into that sweetheart of a grandma TWICE since I last saw you! There was an amazing, yet weird magician guy once, too... The second time included the leads from Choir of Man. Ah, good times! Thank you for all the laughs. You are a talented old fart, and I love our connections with the names Schmidt (Haubstadt, IN, remember) and Anna (our awesome daughters), along with our Midwestern, Gen X sensibilities & cinicism. He does great in mixed crowds; mixed crowds are likely his target audience. He does great in front of female audiences. He does great in front of confused, gender-questioning audiences. While I haven't witnessed it yet, I will go out on a limb and say he would do great in front of a toddler audience. (He did raise kids, you know. Or maybe you don't.) Why do you think he's only good in front of men? Did some man insult you once, Miss Dawn, and that's why you lashed out at a stranger? Give your ovaries a tug, sweetheart. Woman up to the jokes. Not many are actually targeting you.
