Strong odor from Barrio Logan bakery affecting families

- Rafael Tello lives on Boston Avenue in Barrio Logan, he told CBS 8 he is desperate for help.
Tello says since June he’s been dealing with mountains of trash bags that are carrying rotten dough and baked bread. It's been piling up in the back lot of Charlie's Best Bread.
The bakery is located next to Tello’s apartment complex and has caused an unbearable smell. He says the odor and piles of trash is so bad that he’s even noticed rodents and flies ripping through the bags.
Tello believes the bakery never had a dumpster or stopped paying their trash company.
Since then, they have been leaving leftover food outside.

I wouldn't buy bread from them, their business management ethics says a lot about them.
Do they supply the pan dulce to supermarkets like Cardenas???
I did some research and they supply all types of bread to various businesses, you probably ate some already unknowingly

They have been shut down as of today, a crew is finishing the clean-up. The smell was overtaking my warehouse, giving me daily headaches for the last few weeks. I'm so glad it's being taken care of.
There is a service that provides free dumpsters for unused and leftover bakery dough and old bread. They feed the stuff to pigs on pig farms. It's a free service.

Super thankful this has hit the news. Unfortunately, this business is being allowed to clean half? Yuck! It's obviously a health issue for residents. A citation is a finger in a broken dam.
Watch a few segments of Kitchen Nightmares and you'll never eat in a restaurant again. Check the condition of the bathrooms. They'll the key hallmark of what's happening in the back.
As a former dishwasher I avoid ALL restaurants even fancy ones.
The dishes are never clean and it is nasty, they forced dishwashers to wipe away food just to be able to keep customers coming in. Want good service ? Cook at home

If a restaurant’s bathroom (a room they allow customers go into) is dirty, imagine what the kitchen is like (a room they don’t allow customers go into).

"The city barely took action on Sunday." That means the city only took a very small action on Sunday. It doesn't mean that they just started taking action on Sunday, which is probably what the speaker meant. I think the confusion comes from the word apenas, which can mean either barely or just, but in English barely and just don't mean the same thing.
It's barely because if they took action, all the garbage should have been cleaned up within the day and the bakery closed for health violations. This is enforced in other countries, don't understand why not in the US?
Months? pstttt...... one call to the health department should have already shut them down. Health departments do require proper trash removal. It's in their jurisdiction, so they can shut them down. A call to the city however won't get anything done.

A walnut shell in Charlie's Best Bread broke my tooth, and I had to get a crown. I fought with Charlie's Best Bread and Jimbo's for 2 years to receive payment for my dental expenses. I did not receive just compensation.

Not sure what to comment on that one. A business that just tried to cut corners. Mosquitos translates to mosquitoes in English not flies. I don't blame the residents who complained about the putrid smell.
There are bags of flour on pallets just feet from where rodents have been eating the garbage. I would not buy anything from that bakery.

The city should clean up the mess and put the bill on the bakery owners taxes. If the bakery still piles up trash, the city should pull the business permit and close the site down. End of problem...at least until the bakery moves to another site.
