    Thank you for the help with the great tutorial, I just had a question in regards to the Monero GUI client, so why dont you need to download and sync the Monero blockchain to use that and you do need to sync when using the CLI wallet?

    Thank you, this video was just perfect. I've few doubts hope you'll answer them
    1) let's say I downloaded the whole block chain in ~/monero directory, so can I just copy the directory to other machine and point monerod to the copied location, will this work or do I have to re-download the entire block chain?
    2) I've created the account via cli but now I want to use the gui app, will it work or do both use different directory?

      Hey,
      1. You can definitely copy/paste the data to other devices. If it's on a HDD though copying might be slower than re-downloading though.
      2. There's a settings section I believe in the gui where you can select your blockchain location, so that should work just fine. The monero stack exchange has a good answer on this if you google

    I'm using GUI on linux... I created an advantage mode wallet, but it doesn't connect. How can I add the blockchaine prune? So I don't need the big blockchaine. Haven't done this before and I searched the internet, but can't find a good tutorial/guide... Please help, I'm stuck.

    I know this post is 2 years old, and I may not get a response. What filesystem did you use on your sdcard. It appears that ext3, ext4, and xfs are out cause they have journaling. Maybe ext2 or btrfs? I n any case ext4 won't mount. ext3 complains about corruption. I'm trying to use luks to encrypt the sdcard as well. So what would you suggest?

    • @ChadThackray
      @ChadThackray  7 месяцев назад

      Interesting. I used ext4 and it worked ok. So not sure what problem you're having

    • @djuhl002
      @djuhl002 7 месяцев назад

      @@ChadThackray That's odd. I have the latest Fedora and ext4 won't mount at all on the sdcard. I get some cryptic message from dmseg about the journal. Doing a search leads me to believe I need a filesystem that doesn't have journaling like ext2. Exfat doesn't work cause basically it never was a Unix type operating system filesystem. Can't even store the SSL keys because it doesn't have the correct permissions. Maybe there are some mount options to hinder this, but I haven't found any. if ext2 doesn't work, I'll try JFFS2 or btrfs.

      I don't think you can split the database. You could probably run a pruned node on just one 64GB drive though

      I was keeping my desktop Windows for ff8 on steam and trying my Pi; but I was being lazy (All I have to do is switch ssd's)
      I'm downloading the blockchain on ~/Downloads and hoping to keep my private keys on the thumb drive, chmod +x some stuff, and hopefully run it from there. (I don't want my keys kept on my computer, I do have one more sdd, was planning trying to hackantosh but if this doesn't work I'll make it a crypto OS (probably still fedora, as my proprietary hardware is picky, but one I can remove and still use Linux.

    • @ChadThackray
      @ChadThackray  2 года назад

      If you have enough RAM I don't see why not. Will probably need at least 2GB for it to run reliably.
      I'm not overly familiar with PI's. If the installers don't work for you you may have to build from source
