It's less the *landing* that's an issue for large aircraft - it's more that they can't take off fully loaded. If they come in "empty" then they're fine - after all there is a regularly scheduled Singapore Airlines A350 service out of Wellington, which used to use a 777-200. They can, and do, come to Welly.
There isn’t a flight from Wellington to Chicago and there hasn’t ever been one. It’s possible to have a ticket from WLG-ORD but it’ll have to be via AKL.
NZ has quite a few runways long enough for LANDING big planes in case of weather or fuel emergencies. One advantage of NZ being a long and skinny country!😂
767's use to land and take off in Wellington and 787's are about the same size so there shouldn't been a problem, so I wonder if some airline use them to fly overseas from Wellington direct.
Gary Sanson Would be awesome! Sq does a 777 service, I think Air NZ can’t fly wide-bodies from Wellington to Australia commercially due to legal issues, but would be cool!
What how must of Been amazing pilots

@@AdAndPlanes I've made the video and credited your video in the description :)
Being from Wellington and knowing the length of the runway preventing large aircraft, this feels super satisfying to watch.

See! This proves that Air New Zealand should do long haul flights from Wellington.
Alpaca Aviation NZ If they can carry enough fuel to get them there ;)
the runway is too short............
Long haul flights? You would see a few cases like the Russian vodka burner take offs in Australia.
Fantastic video! I loved it! LIKED!;)

Thanks for viewing!
When did you get your tripod?
Alpaca Aviation NZ A year ago maybe?
Just a quick question how is air New Zealand “RARE” when the airports in NZ
Notjoshy Wellington and most airports in NZ don’t have larger wide body services from Air NZ.
Not rare I go on that once every year
i rember seeing anz 767s witch was big at our airport
BoeingCat Certainly!
but now we have a380s
BoeingCat Which airport is that?
christchurch
BoeingCat I see :D
I think my 787 landing in IF is better than this lol
Tony Liu Haha! It’s a short runway for this aircraft, so he needs a firm touchdown to stop in time.
