Rare Bird is a most criminally underrated band!! Every lp a dandy..those first two are absolute musts for any prog fan! Killer stuff..this 2nd lp is phenomenal!!!
@@DittoTurbo I'm 70 years old..I've followed rock music since 1962..owned 2 record stores and sold hundreds of thousands of lps..I promoted this band since the 1st lp..you don't understand what I said..I'll say it again..they were criminally underrated by the mass market..duh
@@groverbaker6404 I know what you mean - Rare Bird did get some minimal recognition in the 70s with hits like "Sympathy" and "Peace of Mind", but not much wide radio airplay beyond that. But I was fortunate to have a couple of FM radio stations that played a wider array of their songs, like "Beautiful Scarlet" and "Epic Forest".
If mindless electronic keyboard noodling and trite lyrics is "criminally underrated" than yes. Not to be confused with the band "Yes". If you took Yes and removed the talent you would have something birdbrained like Rare Bird.
Rare Bird special memories. Did not know about this album. All I got is Somebody's Watching and Epic Forest. Always liked this band. Thank you for sharing this.
The first two albums are the best and I have more of there's. I play central Park and it's crazy but I play it a lot. I'm old and crazy but I love good old Hard Core Ass Kickin Rockin Music. It has to be played loud for me.

Thank you! Thank you so much to share this, I love it and loved it as a 13-14 year old listen to my sisters' gift lp from the first boyfriend who came from Yugoslavia. This masterpiece made me love music.
I got quite a lot of progressive vinyl albums mainly from 67-75 and i bought this Rare Bird album a few years after it was released and it has always been my favorite.. by far !(rip Graham Field)
The first was good and the second was good to. Kick up the music and play it loud to enjoy the day. I love Rock N Roll, Rhythm N Blues, Blues and this sounds good to me. I play the music loud when I Wake up to make me feel good. I'm old but the music makes me feel like a teenager.
I love this band i never knew that had so many albums, i have a few of them.Every time i think of this band because im a 90's kid i always think of the ledgendary bird pokemon
I have a lot of there vinyl albums and this one and the first one is the best to me. I like the Central Park one to it's crazy but I like crazy music. I play the music loud to shake my mind and house to make me feel good.
Yes - it's on the ABC Dunhill label. Part of the cover art uses an antique bird painting used for Rare Bird's first album, also on the ABC Dunhill label.
@@bobholtzmann This was released simply on ABC, not ABC Dunhill. The previous album was on ABC/Probe. Van der Graaf Generator's H to He Who Am The Only One did get released on ABC/Dunhill (and The Least We Can Do is Wave to Each Other was on ABC/Probe). I own all these American pressings of the Rare Bird and VdGG albums so I should know. I also own both Rare Bird LPs as UK originals on the pink scroll Charisma label, both with different covers.
It's just a preference, but I don't like that term - back then it was called Progressive Rock, and for me, that's what it should be called. After all, we don't call Classical "Clas".

These are fair points but don't forget that this album was recorded only in 1970 when Prog was still in its early stages, just like with any other medium the pioneering days are very much trial and error and the drummer Mark Ashton would go on to become a really great painter, his artwork ironically enough would be perfect for the cover of a Yes album. It may be that music didn't quite work out for him, but had he not tried it, he would most likely not have developed his skills into painting.
The first album i bought over 50 years ago! Still sounds good to me.
Like revisiting an old friend from a very happy time in my life.
As your mind flies is an absolutly MASTERPIECE!!!!
I agri.

Underrated quotes are overrated
underrated by whom? can you point them out? Almost all the review of this give it top marks

Seems like something special music. It sounds near bethoven, I like so much.
I'm sure the keyboardists knew some Beethoven works. In the Renaissance song "Island", John Hawken used some of Beethoven's "Pathetique" Sonata.

Another keyboard player who studied Bach before joining a rock band. Always makes for an interesting band.
I use to play these guys a long long time ago...
A forgotten work. Well worth your attention.
Never heard of these guys before. Came on after Road's only album and I am interested to hear more.
The first one is good but this one is the best for me but play it loud.
Came after Kraftwerk for me. Excellent
First time listener. You're off to a good start.

Confess I don’t have this one in the attic but preparing to listen

All Maestro musicians saw them the first time in 1971. And yes they are a rare bird😊

The other side is pretty good also.
yes💫👍🏻...
Их известная песня Simpaty ...
Но всё в целом на уровне
коллективов из Восточной Европы ...
Как Ceslav Nemen,
SBB, FSB и других ...
Бред несёшь про уровень восточной Еуропопы
Чеслав Немен и другие - это высокий уровень, в любом случае
Разве, например, венгерские Omega & Locomotive GT низкий уровень?

And for the record I don't think that at the time they called is classical. They too were progressive or progressivo! Well in Italy anyways. 🇮🇹 lol

Yeah baby Proggy out the wazoo
Muy buena influencia de la era psicodelica, el resultado de las drogas recreativas, saquen el "chemo"¡¡¡ muy buen álbum.
Can you please recommend any similar albums or songs to New Yorker with that angry keyboard sound?
