    I know these units well. Our family owned a 210C and a 310C. Made us nothing but money. Don't forget the rear boom didn't over-centre upon the top of boom cylinder stroke.....which caused lots of crashing. Case was ahead on this IMO. The electrical system was terrible too. Lots of blown fuses. Eventually we would jam a piece of wire in place of the fuse....you could find your short real quick that way. 310C we had came with a 4-in1 bucket, and the 210C had bucket hook pallet forks. It was an oddball in BC so we got a great deal on it at Coast Tractor. Bob Girard sold it to dad new for $33,000 in 1989 I believe. It went in on a barge to Kyuquot, BC for a native housing contract, and just gave a great job for us.
    Thanks. I never post on your guys videos anymore but that's really neat to see this one. I love the 792 Deere/UH10 Hitachi. Those in themselves were great units.

      The 792 is probably going to be the next video. We didn't have as many electrical problems on these machines. The over center would be a nice feature but at least the D's had it. Remember the wedge shaped transport lock on these? I still remember having to jam it in 90 degrees from how it was supposed to be because if you put it in the normal way the boom would wiggle and eventually it would shoot up and land 25ft away.

      Oh yes, there was actually two lock pins, one for boom and one for the swing. At least that's what we had. And it had great brakes too! Never had to fix them. We got lucky, Coast Tractor supplied a complete CWS Q/C and buckets package with Faangs teeth. Honestly, I don't think they were that bad of a unit. Our family has a Cat 420D 4x4 today, and once you know what you're doing, I don't think the old Deere C series was lacking that much. A guy could really make a living with these backhoes.

      +Tax me I'm Canadian the C's were solid machines. The D's were nicer to run. Yeah they all have the swing pin lock as well, still have it to this day on the L's. I've never liked Cat backhoes they always seem bulky and clumsy on a job site.

      Tax me I'm Canadian have owned s 310c since 1995. Solid machines for the money. I am having hydraulic pump issues. Mine has the Sunstrand/Sauer main hydraulic pump with the power steering pump on the front of it. I am having problems finding a rebuild kit for my pump. John Deere wants $4700 for a pump and aftemarket wants 2600-3000k. John Deere only offers a hydraulic pump rebuild kit that is only seals, gaskets, and o rings. Everywhere I call says they can't get sunstrand hard parts for a rebuild as it's a gear pump. There was also a different variation of 310c that had a vickers brand pump. I also cannot find a main relief valve! John Deere has discontinued parts! Do you have any tips on what I can do? I really appreciate it. I, north of Atlanta Georgia. I'm a poor do it yourselfer with a small business and I can't afford top notch new parts always.

    I currently have a JD 310C in slightly better condition when looking at from the outside. Its not an extenda-hoe but it can still dig. Also some of the controls are different. The gear selector is between the legs and has a different knob style also ours doesn't have the tach. I plan on rebuilding the entire thing in hopefully in the next 5 yrs or so. Ours is a 1986 and we are currently replacing several lines including the boom cylinder (i.e. the largest cylinder on the machine hidden in the boom frame). Also the one you showed has a front weight, its the formed piece of metal that sits just in front of the turn cylinder.

      That's just the factory weight. The other machine is probably more like yours. This is a newer model. I'm guessing your loader control is just a straight handle with a button on top for the clutch disconnect?

      Yep. They had 3 options for factory front counterweight (400lbs, 415lbs, 800lbs).

    Well done on the video, if you have more time for these documentary style videos, they're definitely a win.

    Very good documentary. Btw I think it's missing the oil filler cap, rain might get into the crankcase!

    Do you run Deere or cat controls?

    • @vantagetes
      @vantagetes  8 лет назад

      That machine is setup as Deere controls. I'm currently running both at work right now.

      +vantagetes I prefer Deere controls over CAT, but I can run cat if I have to. You ever thought about reviewing Kubota kx mini excavators.
