    You have no idea how helpful your videos have helped me tune my PL660!!! I live in a 14x70' mobile home in a 55+ community. My 'Boxcar' is essentially a 'tin can with windows' and being in Central Ohio I put Gila energy film on my windows. That film is basically Mylar and blocks radio and TV signals and I could hardly get any reception on my PL660. I just put my radio on my screened in porch and did the scan and it was totally amazing as to all the stations coming in!! Thank You So Very Very Much!!!!!!!

    Thanks for putting that up - - the more I watch videos on how to use the PL660 the more stupid I feel. I've had mine for 2 years and I still cannot fathom out how to use it. Just far to complicated despite all the enthusiasm people declare for this little rig. I just want to tune a VFO and listen, not get a mental siezure with all the complicated button sequences and hidden obscure functions....

    I have a Tecsun PL-660 and the manual doesn't give me a clue as to how to tune it or find shortwave stations around the world. I have been searching for a shortwave radio with a manual analog dial that will allow me to tune in overseas broadcasts, but once I found this You Tube video, I now have a better idea as to how to use all the features of this radio. Thanks very, very much for the great video, your help has proven to be very useful!!!

I'm from India and am just 21 years old so I can't find any informative person who can help me with this new hobby of radio listening that I've picked up. I also have a TECSUN PL - 660 which I just received yesterday and when I was tuning to LW frequencies, I heard quiet a lot of weird sounds at different frequencies ( weird to me cause I am new ) for eg 315khz LSB. Can you tell me what such sounds are cause I could find many such transmissions on side bands. Also, can you recommend some websites and forums where I can ask more questions and get some answers so I can enjoy this hobby more?

    • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  9 лет назад +1

      mole meade In general an external antenna will greatly improve reception. The key is to use shielded cable to bring in the signal from the outside antenna. Please see some of the my reviews on selecting or making antennas. There are a number of books out there that I have reviewed that will suggest a number of types of antenna you can use. There are many factors that go into setting up an antenna, like how much room do you have for the antenna, how high can you have an antenna and are their any restrictions in your area about having an outside antenna. If you have further questions, you can email me at trrs73@gmail.com

      +Jitendra Patel The simple answer is that most radios will have problems from rf noise generated by other appliances inside your house. This can be solved by listening outdoors as you found out or have an outdoor antenna. The most important thing about an outdoor antenna is that it has to be brought into the house with shielded cable. Shielded cable will prevent the rf noise inside the house from getting into the antenna. I hope this helps.

      Airband is non existent on mine it's just noises I'm wandering if it's because of the new 8.33 khz steps there using now. I'm close to an airport aswell. There seems to be a lot of normal stations on 40 meter band coming through on this radio which is rather strange as I don't hear it on other ssb radios. The radio picks up a lot of interference during the day so it's night time use only for me. my tuning knob is sticky I might replace it with a bigger one and try cleaning the inside. My charging port is really loose so I'm just going to use rechargeable separate batteries . It's sad there's not many SW stations left anymore from 4000 to 10000 MHz there's stations and ssb but apart from that I hear nothing on the SW spectrum. . My main concern with the radio is the build quality it's very creaky I don't think it could take a knock easily.

    Hi hamrad88! Thanks so much for your excellent informational video! I bought the Tecsun pl-660 some years back and I have been very much oblivious to its tuning capabilities until I watched your video. I am very excited about using it going forward! I was wondering if you, or anyone here could advise me on how to record from the radio. I am interested in contributing to the SW archive (shortwavearchive.com/archive?month=10-2017) as a little project but I am not sure what I would need to do this. Can I connect a cable to the radio and use some software to do this? I appreciate any help or advice you can give me!

      Yes, there are many programs to do this and the one I use which is very simple to use is Scanner Recorder which has a VOX option.

    I just got my 660 in today and I'm a bit miffed. It tunes a total of zero local AM radio stations. Nothing, nada, zip. My crappy under the counter GE clock/radio picks up the main ones as does pretty much any AM transistor radio I've ever used here. I was under the impression this thing was some kind of super radio. Wow what a disappointment.

    • @gblan
      @gblan 8 лет назад

      Mine works great on SW, which is really what I want to be honest but it would be nice to at least hear WCOA and WBSR. Some research reveals the 660 isn't a superstar on AM reception, odd that. FM on it is stellar. Oh well, I just bought an R-1000 and it's on the way. Maybe it'll do the job.

    • @hamrad88
      @hamrad88  8 лет назад

      The problem with portable radios like this is that the built-in MW antenna is so small. Like I said mine works fine on MW but we have a ton of strong MW stations near by. I wish I still had my R-1000 but unfortunately it was one with a bad drift problem. A friend had one and it worked great but he would not sell it to me. :(
