Hi hamrad88! Thanks so much for your excellent informational video! I bought the Tecsun pl-660 some years back and I have been very much oblivious to its tuning capabilities until I watched your video. I am very excited about using it going forward! I was wondering if you, or anyone here could advise me on how to record from the radio. I am interested in contributing to the SW archive (shortwavearchive.com/archive?month=10-2017) as a little project but I am not sure what I would need to do this. Can I connect a cable to the radio and use some software to do this? I appreciate any help or advice you can give me!
I just got my 660 in today and I'm a bit miffed. It tunes a total of zero local AM radio stations. Nothing, nada, zip. My crappy under the counter GE clock/radio picks up the main ones as does pretty much any AM transistor radio I've ever used here. I was under the impression this thing was some kind of super radio. Wow what a disappointment.
Mine works great on SW, which is really what I want to be honest but it would be nice to at least hear WCOA and WBSR. Some research reveals the 660 isn't a superstar on AM reception, odd that. FM on it is stellar. Oh well, I just bought an R-1000 and it's on the way. Maybe it'll do the job.
The problem with portable radios like this is that the built-in MW antenna is so small. Like I said mine works fine on MW but we have a ton of strong MW stations near by. I wish I still had my R-1000 but unfortunately it was one with a bad drift problem. A friend had one and it worked great but he would not sell it to me. :(
The most important thing to me was that after 30 minutes of scanning there was not even a station to transmit out there!!! I wonder why they dont give these radios as a gift. I finally would had my radio.

Been looking around and still haven't figured whether this is a DSP receiver or good old analog.
We have the dreaded soft muting circuit where very weak signals can get cut off.
@@hamrad88 I see. Among my collection I have a PL-450. I can tune it around and it never mutes. Considering this, the PL-660 might be a different experience. I also have an XHDATA D-808. You're saying the muting is similar? Thanks!
HOW DO I changE military time to regular time????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
how would i know what international band for mexico?? what number it is?
They could be using any of the bands.
Yes, there are many programs to do this and the one I use which is very simple to use is Scanner Recorder which has a VOX option.
@@hamrad88 Thanks you hamrad88! Do I need a special kind of cable to connect the radio to a recording device?
@@stewartkilleen675 No.
How well does it detect uvb 76 from New England

I have that radio, anyone find, even if you dont use the radio, the batteries drain fast?
Have not found that to be a problem with mine. Mine is the latest version.

Not sure what your question is.
@@hamrad88 whare can u fiend a raido like yours we don't have a raido shack anymore
Most of the radios I review come from either Amazon (for new ones) or Ebay (for used ones).
I had a escon 3way got from walmart the bulb I think quit
thats counting from 001 its not pages its just counting up
I just got my 660 in today and I'm a bit miffed. It tunes a total of zero local AM radio stations. Nothing, nada, zip. My crappy under the counter GE clock/radio picks up the main ones as does pretty much any AM transistor radio I've ever used here. I was under the impression this thing was some kind of super radio. Wow what a disappointment.
Mine works fine.
Hi hamrad88
Hello
The most important thing to me was that after 30 minutes of scanning there was not even a station to transmit out there!!! I wonder why they dont give these radios as a gift. I finally would had my radio.
