The absolute best way to learn endgames is to play them. There are piles of positions on Lichess and other that you can run drills on.A very,very good book on chess openings and some middle game is Nimzowich's my system. It is timeless and clearly explains the concepts of space time and material.
He is actually in a weak position if he moves rook to E4 at 10:10. There is a much better move than a defensive move. There is a checkmate chance. White Rook E1 to E4 -> Black rook on d7 takes Knight on d4. If you take the queen then black rook now on d4 takes rook on d1 and checkmate. Pavel has a chance to win here. Those who told you not to use prophylaxis in chess has not studied chess. Nimzhovich introduced this theory of prophylaxis in his book "My System". Plus the use of prophylaxis in medical term implies the same meaning in chess. So whether you have read Nimzhovich or not as long as you understand chess you would not say you cannot use the word.

Nice defense of the word prophylaxis. I didn't know it was ever used outside the world of dentistry. We use it to describe a general cleaning because they are preventative against future attacks from oral diseases.
It's a medical term originally, not limited to dentistry.
