Hill Tribe Family Cook Dinner For Us In Their Home In North Laos

We’ve been invited to cook and eat with the Lao Lanten, a hill tribe living in the remote mountains of North Laos, we feel honoured to be welcomed into their home and their village and have the opportunity to bring you guys along with us to share our experience having dinner with a Lanten family in their home and learning more about their unique culture and cuisine.
The Lanten (Yao Mun) are the indigo masters of Laos, in fact their name Lanten means 'those that dye cloth' in Chinese. They are also referred to as the Lao Huay, which means “Lao of the streams”. They migrated from China around one hundred years ago. There are only eleven Lanten villages in Laos. With a population of around 6,500, they are one of the smallest ethnic groups in the country.
