People don't fully grasp how hard this musical is to pull off. Seriously people who scoff at this musical piss me off. The definition of a work of art
I don't get such disposition either, but for me personally as a theater fan&kid, Cats is just the best!! all with its abstraction and ooze of pure art and talent💯
Anyone else note Tugger dancing right along with them in frigging skate shoes? Like, I know they're altered so he can to the stuff he needs to, but those things still have to be a bit clunky and heavy, and he's just like "no worries bro" and freaking KILLS it!
Shoes aren’t that big a deal, I’ve done some pretty crazy stuff in steel-caps. Pants on the other hand...yeah, I had a pretty big wardrobe malfunction being a show off in jeans once, only a hundred meters to the nearest clothes shop but I swear everyone in the centre picked that moment to be along those hundred meters.
They’re not. Most of them are professional dancers but not actors or singers. The choral numbers and a number of the smaller songs are dubbed over, the lead parts (griz, Deuteronomy, tugger and munkastrap) were the ones who did all three.
Regardless of whether you think Cats is weird or whatever, this dance segment is one of the reasons why this Musical is so great. You've got to appreciate the artwork 💙
Yam Jam It’s still hard to believe they did this stuff eight shows a week. The choreography is so impressive, and I can’t even imagine how many times the actors must have gotten injured doing it.
I always tell people. Watch Cats for the dance number. If you truly cant get past it look for a video of them doing in their dance gear/not their coustume.
The audience score is much better for this version. And Rotten Tomatoes has like 5 reviews for this, from obscure websites, only the good one is even quoted. So it's less unanimous hate and more just a small number of reviews, as this is not really a film to begin with.
all of them are above anything I’ve ever seen, they are all out of this world, but the passion and energy from Mr. Mistoffelees, Rum Tum Tugger, Rumpleteazer and Cassandra are out of this universe, they make me cry everytime I inhale and forget to breathe
Something I just noticed: At the beginning, when Alonzo goes to scare away Grizzabella, you can see Old Deuteronomy in the background reaching out to try and stop him. After that, his focus is on her until :53 when she leaves and he holds out his hands to her before slowly sitting down once she's gone.
Yeah, Old Deut is always holding his hand out to Grizza when he sees her. It's clear he really wants her to be let back in but it's convincing the other cats that's the problem ^^
This was the most amazing part when I saw it on Broadway. I cried. The music just flooded the room and the choreo was SO impressive. I really knew right then that I wanted to perform forever.

The choreography paired with this music is by far one of my most watched, most loved scenes in any musical. I love it so much, it is just brilliant all around.
I love the beginning of this scene because it shows off the various powers of a few cats. The first two to awake and notice something is off are Coricopat and Tantomile, the Psychic Cats. Then it’s Mistofolees, who is the magic cat. Then Skimble and Munkus get up at the same time, with Skimble showing off his incredible nose. And then finally Alonzo leaping up to chase Grizabella away was always funny to me. I always felt we needed more Alonzo moments in the musical
Omg, I remember watching this as a kid over and over because I was just mesmerized by the way the moved. Just look at Tugger, look at all of them. It's like rushing water, the amount of strength put into every step. It's gorgeous.
I love how perceptive the twins and Misto are I mean obvs the twins have their telepathy and Misto has his magic But even the fact that they're the first to get up, and the first to noticed Old Doot arriving? Just little things I appreciate
@@elijahsimmons2245 They do!
