I clicked so fast, it said "Unable to comply, building in progress."
Edit: After 8 months, i got pinned. Thank you Zade, very cool.
After a year, you are unpinned. Regardless, that is pretty funny
how about a reply 1 year later?
nice
Sadly the video does make it sound like many other mobile games. There are quite a few out there that have good mechanics, and start out quite fun, but then you sooner or later reach a point where the grind just gets too bad. Structurally, the monetization does not seem radically different from other mobile RTSs I've tried over the years
I guess I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who hasn't played a ton of them - so I get what you're saying!
13lade, a Rivals Pro and streamer, mentioned that spending diamonds in the shop is The worst value for your money. It is better to save up your Diamonds for the limited time events and getting the maximum wins on those events to get the most value out of it. So I basically just ignore the shop and just play as I usually do. When one of the 3 best value events came up and I manage to get 9 or 10 wins, I will then spend my diamonds to upgrade the rewards to the premium track, and if I have another 600Diamonds to spend, I could double the premium track and get double the rewards. So if I don't manage to get 9 or 10 wins on an event, I can just not spend the diamonds and wait for the next one and just multiply the premium track with the extra diamonds that got saved up.
Those high value events are consideref high value because they reward players with Cloning Labs, Showdown and Resource Challenge, gives you 5 Vats if you get 9 wins and 5 Vats in the shop cost 600 Diamonds, the same as upgrading a premium track in an event. So if you get 9 wins, you get the Vats that you could get at the store but also A lot of crates, credits and cards of various rarities.
TL:DR ignore the shop, save your diamonds for 3 specific events (Showdown, Resource Challenge, & Rivals Champions) and make sure you get 90% wins (Rival Champions have 15 tiers). That is how you handle Rivals Monetization. Rivals is actually a Pay to Lose game, you will win more with higher leveled cards, but then you meet people who know what they are doing And have higher leveled cards cause they have been grinding since day one.
I quit playing mobile when it said ready in 1 year. Not even kidding ONE YEAR!
This was in the top ten mobile games too.
Even though way different than CnC Rivals, Honkai Impact 3's monetization I atleast find bearable and is offset with how much love and effort they put on the main story chapters every update and the open world it has
@Zippydsm Lee I would say not all mobile games but Honkai Impact 3 and Legends of Runeterra are not exclusively mobile games
Man what happened to strategy games? It feels like a dead genre by now.

Yeah, got me. I mean actuall new games. They are there I know but it's in comparison to before not much and most of the newer strategy games are remasters.
It's hard to make something better than the masterpieces that were made 20 years ago.
AFAIK what happened was a combination of a lot of things: 1) better computer technology allowed game devs to focus more on prettier graphics, instead of gameplay 2) better internet connectivity, similarly allowed for more complex multiplayer experiences 3) star craft and E-sports, with its more fast-paced gameplay, left the C&C series in the dust. C&C 4 *spit* was an attempt to make a strategy game designed for e-sports and quick online multiplayer.
Basically, the old C&C games had very simple in-game graphics and silly but well written and campy full-motion and simply animated cutscenes. They weren't that complicated to make, but probably took a lot of effort to balance and playtest to get just right. They had full single player campaigns, with multiplayer feeling put on more as an afterthought (less so in 3 and whatnot, but even C&C had that world conquest mode for extra single player fun)
Compare that to C&C 4: Much fancier 3D graphics, poorly written full-motion cutscenes, almost no focus on single-player - hell you had to play multiplayer to unlock all the units. it was a complete inversion.
personally I think what really happened, was that EA thought that the original core demo for the C&C games had grown up and grown out of the games - so they felt they needed to appeal to a new more "modern" rts demographic - hence the wannabe star craft setup with all multiplayer focus. Lets be honest: They weren't wrong: No strategy game since then has really made it big outside of Star Craft 2.
@Aleksa Petrovic not relatively close to the old days of the genre, outside of a handful of games the strategy genre is really not growing fast enough
compare players numbers for civ, or wargame or whatever, to fortnite, or league, or whatever
i blame zoomers
In the past I was pissed off about this.
I'm still am. After Command and Conquer 4, I think many vets agreed that it was like spitting on the grave of a beloved IP.
It still is c,c shouldent hqave greedy dumbed down microtransactions games thats made to exploit customers and not respect them.
You should be pissed off about it. It is a great game, but it is also a terrible game for its predatory monetization. The hope is that EA sees people's passion and translates it into a new CNC game that isn't rooted in compulsory reward systems.
At least this looks like it was a game with some minor effort put in. Tiberium Alliances, however....
Ah the business strategy of : Do you guys not have phones?
7:06 i instantly recognized most of the units even before looking at the description the first time booting the game up... Although i once used called the rhino as humvee, and surprisingly it was the original name but later changed due to legal issues.
And even worse, you could end up treating them the same way they were in previous games. I once tried sending a venom to attack enemy aircraft only to learn that i can't.
And it took me a while to recognize subtle ones like the
Razorback is the Ox transport from TW,
Mohawk is the Chinook from TD
Phantom is actually the firehawk from TW if you look closely. dunno why it's on nod side
I think the Mohwalk was more inspired by the Combat Chinook from Generals: Zero Hour. The original Chinook couldn't attack while the USA Air Force Gen's could have garrisoned infantry shoot out of it's fire ports.
The latest update (December 2019) made this game worse than ever. Even the active players are constantly complaining about the balance, meta, broken op units, monetization, pay to win. The game was 20 times better to play last June.
And challenge matches makes it worse for bad players - they are locked in higher levels without being able to go back down.
Interesting take on challenge matches, I see your point. Though personally I'd rather not loose the medals!
For me the gameplay is actually pretty good, for a mobile game, but what I hate is that lore wise they are way off. It is pay to win when you are in strongest league, before that you can win with skill.
There is a game called art of war 3 it did what EA couldn't do
I just wouldnt ever get a game with lootboxes.
And that's very fair enough!
I don't care about lootboxes. The problems start when someone tossing tons of money at them can beat everyone who didn't. Even people who grinded their butts off.
@@Sonlirain pay to win is 0/10 and this game more or less excludes you from ranking up if you dont start putting money in, by the sounds of it.
My main problem with Rivals is that it's kind of like ant poison. Sweet like sugar, but over time it kills their whole hive because they've been actively poisoned by it.
That's what you get when the same units you may or may not have access to level up and become more powerful the more you grind&pay. Does a football team get a smaller goal because they have played in the league for longer or gained a bigger sponsor? PvP like the one in Rivals is nothing short of poisoned.
well just a quick reminder that C&C3 esp kanes wrath is still amazing, and renegade X is still alive and being worked on.
it pains me to see C&C being tortured in the way it is, but theres still gold out there lads
Also CnC(dot)net still exists
CNCnet has all the greatest C&C games to play online.
C&C3 is good since it still follows the roots (unlike C&C4 and rivals) but too much EA in it. Rivals has more followers in reddit than renegade x and openra.
Kanes Wrath and Renegade X are great, agreed! Excellent stuff out there for those interested!

My hero
I'm an old school C&C fan and I am actually enjoying this mobile game. I'm not a teenager anymore and though I would have loved a campaign as well, this game is really fun and brings back the nostalgia that I have from booting the original C&C and Red alert up in DOS.
Watching this off the heels of your SupCom 2 video. As someone who's constantly defended Rivals, especially in comparison to C&C4, I have to start by saying one thing: Expectations matter.
Yes, I do think Rivals was given a worse reception because it was announced in a vacuum. Conversely, I was much harsher to C&C4 because it was subsuming a main line game, where as Rivals didn't, nor did it pretend to be. Even then, I give credit to Rivals for having things that C&C4 didn't. It has meaningful resource gathering, a tech tree, and buildings. The unit designs are much more in line with what we'd expect from the factions, the units themselves are interesting, and the look and feel is just.... right. Hell, if C&C were ever to be rebooted, I'd go as far as to say as the units in Rivals be the basis for for a new game. All the robotic and drone tech makes sense, and units like the rockworm feel like they should have been staples of Nod from the beginning.
Yes the monetization isn't fantastic, yes it's not a main series game, but I won't dismiss it outright simply because it wasn't what I expected or wanted from the series, and while I definitely wouldn't want this to be what the future of the franchise looks like, or conversely hold the title for the final new game in the franchise, I think this game is leaps and bounds better than C&C4, and even for those who disagree, I feel safe in saying that this game brings more to the table to the series as a whole than C&C4 did.
Also, it's just fun.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING ❤️
And yup, couldn't agree more. Don't expect cnc5, but for what it is, it's good
It's not like i lost my 9th battle because the enemy just attacks me with the same units i have but like 2 levels bigger. Pay-to-win sucks ass
:/
I was trying this game also. At the start it's ok, but after some progress every enemy has better units...
i actually realllly enjoyed this game for what it was. i wasnt anticipating it at all but when i saw that it existed i said oh cool and had a lot more fun playing it during my commute than i was expecting. its a neat little casual consolidation of what i used to enjoy about doing a hardcore rts match when i had the time back in the day to do more of those.
that said, it definitely does not hold a match to cnc3/kanes wrath. i'd kill for a sequel more like that at some point.
Watched and interacted with, as requested on the Sup Com 2 vid XD
A while back, I played another, unrelated mobile RTS for a while, with some similar mechanics, it was pretty fun - until they released an update that changed literally almost everything and made the game instantly unplayable and unfun. So a lot of what you've mentioned are things I've seen before in some way, and in other mobile games too, like the card upgrading mechanic and such.
The thing is, while that game _also_ presented itself as an all-PvP RTS, with enemies that had real usernames appropriate for their countries located all over the world..... it was very clearly majority, if not exclusively, botmatches, with the exact same unit lineups and the exact same opening strategies within each medal bracket - and usually consistently 1-2 levels above what the player has too. And I mean the _literal exact same_ lineups and opening moves, quite often actually a little bit _faster_ than what should be possible, clearly deploying a unit the instant they had the resources without the slight delay a player would have. What this meant was that for me too the majority of the early matches were victories, and then it gradually started to slow down, until I reached a certain breakpoint and things were easy again for a while.
What you're saying here sounds like there's probably something similar going on; EA would have a higher budget, so they could make more sophisticated AIs for this more complex game (the other one was just straight down three lanes), with a gradual frustration curve, getting the player hooked with easy wins early on and then throwing a bunch of challenge matches at them to basically go "look at all these awesome units you don't have! they're strong, aren't they? _buy them now you freeloading scum_". There's a decent chance that you might have actually _never_ played against a real player, just bots using real players' usernames - after all, there's no way to confirm that, so why not go the easy route?
That said, this video basically confirms what I suspected about the game - I've memed it to high heaven, but the core gameplay has always looked interesting, for a mobile game at least. It's just the usual mobile microtransaction pushing, and what I said above about the possible outright absence of any actual PvP gameplay, that continues to put me off.
Honestly, the game is pretty fun. And the ideology behind this probably was to help pad funding future c&c projects. That's what fire emblem did with their mobile game and their games the past few years have really shown how much this has helped.
12:50 there it is boys, THERE IT IS
Well, it sounds just as uninteresting as I thought it would be when they announced it.
3:20 its my man bryan! :D
I like that this video kind of makes it look like a genuinely fun game. I also think, it's not that bad, when studios experiment a bit with their games. Bioshock: Burial at sea e.g. was hated by many people, and I wouldn't say, that it's as good, as any other Bioshock game, but I think they did a great work experimenting with new abilities, and especially with the sneaking skills. It would be extremely cool, if they would make a new game, that has all of those skills and game mechanics, in addition to the old ones.
I think this game could be something like that, if they ever make a new, complete C&C game, they did some experimenting with the unit designs (which seems to be quite good), the other game modes, and hopefully they will create a new one.
Got to love the challenge mode when fighting against people with hire level units or unknown units...
Until I get unlucky and end up in seven challenge battles in a row
Fantastic!
Here is what I predict. When the C&C remakes launch, and they sell like hotcakes, EA will whip out a whole bunch of REAL games. The loot boxes and pay-to-play BS gimmicks will be gone soon. Real fun games. Soon. And you will get to review them too!!!! Thanks.
Here's hoping!
Ea wont change and only lootboxes where banned not whole microtransactions scam gamer agendas and tactics not banned yet, which it needs to be
I don't see that happening while EA is under Android Wilson.
C&C Rivals is a great mobile adaptation. I can see why the classic C&C cant be transfered well to mobile and I think Rivals is a good competetive adaptation in the C&C universe. I PLayed to Tiberium League without paying anything so its not P2W rather about skill, deck building and strategy depth.
Nice idea : )
Losing sucks because the nuke is not a tug of war, if the cap point is taken just before you win, you lose. It doesn't feel good.
Well put!
Honestly if they charged for the game I'd have considered it, but a f2p mobile game from EA??? What you describe is the best case scenario and that's still bloody dire.
Deep monetization like this is reason I'll just look away and play games that don't have 'em. Sure they are fun games but there's plentiful other games that give same amount of entertainment and for free or single payment.
The game was not bad per se, it was just not Command & Conquer. Plain and simple.
Yup, pretty accurate summary
C&C Rivals is still just a "Don't you guys have phones" moment. It's not C&C!
The game is in hopeless state by now
I didn't even know this one existed even though I follow the series enough to check for new games every so often... I do hope to hear an opinion on Tiberium Alliances though...
the greatest problem with the franchise is that we now have 2 offshoot games but not a single proper full C&C, i thought "Generals 2" was really nice they should had expanded on that
Yeah, Generals Zero Hour is my favorite CnC title of all, and I've played the lot-well, all the PC ones-since '95. It's still pretty playable today, the Generals Challenge was a brilliant addition in Zero Hour. I feel Generals has the best scope for a sequel, ahead of CnC or RA, in the sense that there's a lot more 'untold story' scope.
Agreed, hopefully we'll see something soon!
I tried the game and was severely disgusted after 2 hours going around the game. After the debacle of tiberium twilight which gave me such a sour rotten taste. I'm never touching the mobile game again. It also further solidified my hate for EA.
im a teen and i got introduced to generals by my father, i guess he did not like the tiberum or red alert franchises as mutch because i got introduced to those by my uncle a lot later. but because im a stereotypical teen and do my phone a lot a actually did play rivals before the 3rd C and C and i still have not played C and C 2 or completed red alert but that's what i am playing as of now.
yup I'm here to eccho what oters have said. This game is actually really fun, but the end game is impossible. The good is my level 12 units could beat level 14 and 15 units. The bad is the number of cards you need to go up you need to pay almost 100$ per unit or 100 hours of gameplay per unit to get from 14 to 15, that's insane.
I love Rivals. 6,000+ games as a free to play player. My units are mostly level 13 without me spending a cent and I’ve been able to play very competitively without ever feeling at a disadvantage.
I think the game could definitely use some polish, but it’s overall a really fun time. It’s a shame it died instantly on perceived reputation alone.
I enjoyed it too. You're right though, reputation didn't help it!
This is actually a very well made video with fair and unbiased views.
I try! Thanks for watching :)
Not at all
Maybe like a half of it is
The game is actually pretty fun
I agree! Not bad, honestly
Greg black didn't work on generals, he only worked on C&C3 RA3 and SC2.
According to his LinkedIn he worked QA and Production Assistant :)
@@Zade_95 Oh thanks in twitter he only said that
I play this game free. All of the units I use are max lvl 11 up to max 12. It takes a long time to level stuff and the frequent rebalances are quite frusterating. It also takes a bit of cheeky playing until your units are all 15 (max). That said, it's fun, takes a bit of actual skill, and isn't really very grindy. I'm not much a fan of mobile games I need to be married to. Missing out on good content because I'm not playing 8+ hrs/day on a silly phone for an "event" has made me drop many games but not this one. About an hour of playing per day is the most you can do for progress. After that, you can just play for fun if you have some time to burn.
I'm willing to try but, only because your convincing.
Good video
Thanks mate 😌
Your defense of supreme commander 2 video sent me...so here is my life and comment...God bless
Thank you King
i know its been a HOT minute since you last talked about C&C, however, watching this video made me wonder, is there any chance you'll talk about c&c tiberium alliances, given people still play that game to this day?
I've thought about it actually. I likely will next year!
I'm happy you put this video out. I've been following your C&C series since you started (that's how I found your channel). I went into this with as open of a mind as I could manage and I went from loathing it to now just being fairly pissed. If I see it as just another mobile game I don't mind it at all but as a C&C fan I'm like you described in your video: a fan pissed off that this isn't a main series entry.
And that's what I'm aiming to do - let people come to their own conclusions. Whether they like the game, or not!

@@Zade_95 When adjusting for inflation, its about threefiddy
dont know why.. just made me think of End War (browser game version)
Why this failure get so much attention? 26 minutes video which couldve been on a good game. Is there anyone who havent seen/played it just after it was released, the internet was booming of comments about it.. And on mobile rts topic, there is one good true rts and thats art of war 3 - global conflict.
Because it has the CnC name, and has got relatively a lot of attention from the CnC community. Another 26 minutes isn't going to affect it all much :)
actually bad games deserved to be explained why
Well in my opinion rts gamer can get good enough opinion about that game in watching a first look video or play it for 5-10 min, its kinda shallow and obviously not good. Game was recently released and everyone saw what it is by then, so what that need to be bringed back and with so much details. Instead of getting half an hour video of a bad game, why not get it on a good and interesting one, i as subscriber waited like 2 or 3 weeks about that video and got kinda disappointed.
It's all in context - wanted to try the game because I was interested and hadn't had a go at a mobile RTS like this.
If this was an ad, trust me, I'd tell you about it. And my wallet would be far healthier than it is!
@@NuStiuFrate People can have different opinions to you that are as valid as yours ffs, snowflake.
to be honest c&c rivals are great for mobile strategy game it's much better than an those stupid games that call it a strategy mobile game but it's not enough for c&c saga i really enjoy it because i've had no time to sit on the computer and play games rivals had strategical thought on it i've combined units combo, best strategy's for maps etc
Enjoyed this video.
I have a question/topic I think would make a good video.
If you where to design your own game, what setting and factions would you use and how would you like the gameplay to run? Do you have an ultimate RTS that has never been made?
Thanks!
I'd need some thinking on that one, good idea though!
Hey Zade, if you're looking for a game to do a retrospective of, why not Try RA3. Especially considering the massive mod support the game seems to be having lately with the Remix 2020 mod and the Upcoming Corona Mod which is definitely gaining traction among fans of the game.
I will be! Slowly working through, need to hit RA2 first. But yep, 100%
I'm not even a fan of C&C initially. I got into Rivals first and later looked at the other games.
Rivals is probably the best a mobile RTS is going to get. It still has problems which you mentioned with levels, currency, rank ladder, etc.. but as you also mentioned the core Gameplay is solid.
Last thing I'll say about Challenge Battles. It's a double edged sword. Sure you gain more but even if you win you get to a point where enemy units flat out overpower you. There on the ladder you have to play against someone without a brain to win. If you lose then you are held in the same place as before with no chance of getting to a place on the ladder where you would fight a more "evenly matched" opponent. Your only way of getting to that "evenly matched" opponent is to quit the game and have the rank system drop your rank at the end of the season due to inactivity. Even with this strategy of taking breaks from the game (which admittedly is a healthy thing to do), Now I am the problem player as I can't control how far I drop and now I am a player with Tiberium Rank experience playing people in Bronze rank where my cards are at the level limit and theirs probably aren't. The odd case where you run into a really talented low level player, a slightly less skilled higher level player, or an evenly matched opponent in every sense; are all experiences which are too uncommon for me to stick with the game longer than I have (I hit Tiberium Rank at some point so I've played too much already though).
Note, i just feel like pointing this out. The losing bit is because you are playing against real people. Losing against computer is bleh not fun but not bad. As your mind can make up reasons why you failed due to computers naturally getting cheats and handicaps in order to overcome the massive handicap of being a computer. Meanwhile a person is a person.. your on equal footing their and losing to them means you lose to them. which eats away as humanity natural need for competition.
Needless to say it eats away at your own instincts..
ohboyherewego.jpg
I'll be okay if this wasn't made with microtransactions in mind. Personally i did enjoyed it, and it reminds me of Company Of Heroes where, you only have a fixed main base. And you just micro manage your units, and capture control points to win.
If this was made in vein of Infinity Blade, Mass Effect Infiltrator, Dead Space iOS, like a premium mobile game, with a singleplayer & offline skirmish matches, it would have been a much okay game. But just without the Command & Conquer title.
You should cover Starcraft 2. One of todays biggest RTS games.
I will one day!
A few years ago I installed one of those $5 Need For Speed games by EA on my iphone. The game was actually really good, the mechanics was great, the controls felt amazing, the gameplay was smooth, and everything was great.... except the monetization. As you progressed further in the game, it basically became impossible to do anything without buying loot for real money. The game stopped you right in your tracks if you didn't pay up. So... Thank you, but no thanks. I'm done with that crap. I'd rather trace the wood grain on my floor than work to pay for EA's shitty loot boxes. They can stuff this game where the sun doesn't shine.
hey zade. thanks for the honest review
My takeaway from your video: its a "good" mobile game with a CnC label slapped-on, solid mechanics and fun sprinkled between excessive monetization. basically a true EA game through and through. I figured tht the actual game would be ok. If it had been released as ANYTHING other than a CnC game, i might've tried it. but simply as a matter of principle, I will neverm download and play it
that being said, great work on the review. if you like it, more power to ypu. and i hope for swift victories on the battlefield. same for anyone else who plays it. its such a shame, cuz Redwood Studios got a good game here. its just unfortunately been packaged in a CnC bow when it has no place being presented as one. Or as you said, presented as "the next big CnC" instead of a side announcement to someting we were hoping for
heres to hoping the remaster isnt screwed up too badly
Yeah, that's basically it - nicely summed up!
And thanks :)
This is the best mobile game I have played. I have played since beta and have spent zero money on it, just play and level up that way.
@@mastermirror2842 lol. I wish. How do I get some of that EA 💰
It's an awesome game. It's spoiled a bit by the pay-to-win mechanics, but I haven't paid anything, and I still have a lot of fun (there are ways around that). I saw another comment saying they 'suspected' it would all be bot competitors. Not the case, it's all real PvP in my experience (and I'm playing in 2023).
I'm not a C & C purist, so I can't really comment on the use of that title. I couldn't care less, tbh, but others obviously do.
What made me delete it after trying it for a few hours was the boring game. Maybe things have changed, but when I tried at launch all gameplay is basically rock, paper, and scissor. All units can only attack the unit at the neighbor hexagon. The only strategy is move unit to either block path, counter unit type, or support. Was so bored, so I just gave up. Lucky I did not waste money on it. The loot box is basically a paywall you will meet sooner or later to make any progress. So you will either grind for weeks, give up, or pay up if you are week willed.
I simply don't have enough middle fingers to give EA.
Idk if this is changed relative to when you made your video but all i do is get paired vs high level units to the point where i’m 3 levels different and 1 in every 10 is against my own level. it’s just an absolute rip.
Man I cannot wait until the C&C remaster. Got tired of AAA RTS games crap filled with microtransactions, decided to start working on my own RTS game lmao.
Do u have any screenshots
Does it have blackjack and hookers?
@@aram-2119 It's very early stage, just now got the pathfinding done. I've actually set up a subreddit for it today. /r/ageofdestruction.
@@rubz1390 No haha. But it will have old C&C style game mechanics.
Robinblitz I’m a bit out of the loop. But which C&C game is being remastered? I know one is but I don’t know which.
Rivals came out in a bad time like Metroid Federation Force where there hasn't been a main line entry for a while. If C&C 5 was announce along side Rivals no one would have mind it.
I actually enjoyed it for what it was, but whatever it was, it was not command and conquer
Good video sir. But still i am patiently waiting for C&C Red Alert 2+Yuris revenge video. But still there are games that wont fit mobile C&C is one of thous games that wont fit mobile but PC only.
Thanks! Don't worry, not too far away :)
Really like the honest review for the game, I think it touched every important aspect and how grindy it can get. Also, how fun the mechanics are.
My personal experience, I've been playing C&C games since Tiberian Sun and at first I saw the game and didn't think much about it. A friend of mine, who also likes C&C games, convinced me to download it and try it out, that was December of last year and I can say that I don't regret the decision, still play the game to this day and I still have some great fun with it. The familiarity of the units, the voice lines, the deck building and the strategy keeps the game fun.
Is it pay to win? I think the video says it best, yes and no. To be clear, it certainly gives you an advantage to have higher level units than your opponent, but you can counter this by outplaying your opponent and using hard counters to the units your opponent uses, this is where the depth of the game shows. The main issue is the grinding for cards and coins to level units, after getting units to level 10 you will really start to feel the grind and how the microtransactions give an advantage to paying players.
I would certainly recommend to give a shot at the game, play a few matches, even some events and see if you are enjoying it or not. Also, there is a quite active Rivals community in reddit and discord that is worth to check if you wish to get more information about the game.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
Wow this is my thoughts exactly. However I don't think that pay to win even works after level ten because spending $20 on a collosal crate, for example, gives you about enough to upgrade any unit of a certain rarity once, but I have found that crates almost never give you what you need. So it is better to spend that $20 on 20 cloning chambers which you can use for something that you actually need, but only for one rarity and for only one level. And this may become only half a level in the future. So in conclusion, pay to win gets you almost nowhere at level 10 and up. Unless you want to spend hundreds.
This game is tantamount to walking up to the grave of the C&C IP and taking a piss on it. No amount of "self reflection" and "contemplation" will change that.
I don't know why I still play this game
It is a bad CnC but good mobile RTS (minuts p2w aspect)
@@Igor369 I still play it to this day without paying. Got all the units my unit levels are high too even though im a F2P guy.
This is the only mobile game I play because I'm a C&C fan. Didn't hate this game upon launch like most hardcore C&C players did and I gave it a "fair chance", and all I have to say is the haters upon the game's announcement was right, the pay to win made it unplayable if you reached higher leagues as a free player.
It's an endemic cultural issue in EA, pretty much any established franchise will be mismanaged in an attempt to wedge into what the company see's as the flavour if the week. Theirs even examples of this with re3's clumsy attempts to be starcraft.
I downloaded the game when it's first went out and it was much more unbalanced then now there were actually units locked behind paywalls and Kane was not obtainable except by microtransactions
Really? I started at release and this was not the state. Was it prerelease (beta)?
No he just doesn’t understand how the game works like Zade says as you level up your acc you unlock more units. Kane is unlocked at lvl 12 which is super early on in the games progression. The wiki has some info on what level you unlock the units
GDI using nukes?... That's not c&c
Rivals is differently pay to win, long time c&c fan BikeRush showed that a higher level Giga cannon or inferno can defeat an enemy with minimal skill, even in mirror matches with the same commander and units.
I like this game
me too
So, bit of an update. Been playing Rivals and yes, its actually really fun to play. Wasn't expecting it to be as fun as what it is.
I know right, basically my thoughts exactly!
Why Is Nobody Talking About Art Of War 3?
It's Literally The Best Mobile RTS Ever Made!
I thankfully approached it wifh an open mind on release b4 watching ur review....and I totally agree with wat u say Zade
Glad you gave it a shot and had fun!
Good review mate, terrible garbage for a game
Thanks! Tried to keep it honest
I don't get it. It's already a tough sell. I'm not going to play this game, I don't play mobile games, I have an expensive PC for that. I don't want a pay-to-win f2p mobile game. I want an actual command and conquer. If EA can't simply do that, they should sell the IP, they clearly have no interest in doing anything with it. I guess this is so the Chinese market, who eat this crap up.

Seeing a blue obelisk of light is painful.
Would you say that this is a good mobile game if it didn't have C&C on its title?
Yeah I think so. Don't get me wrong though, it definitely benefits off the source material. I don't really play many mobile games tho so I might be lacking context to other mobile games
You almost sold me on it. I do look forward to the remakes though.
*Edit* Is that shorter video.... Grey Goo?
Haha no not quite.... Grey Goo deserves a bigger one! Expect that soon into 2020
I love this game, but it really needs to be updated and rebalanced again.
They finally said a new unit is coming soon. Hoping for a good release and bug fixes. Let's cross fingers :)
It has nothing to do with the game being good or not and everything to do with them trying to steer the carrot into a different direction that we don't want. If people support the mobile game and it does well then why would they ever make another C&C game like C&C 3 again? Money talk is all they care about. Don't support the mobile game or else we kill the mainline games.
This game wought it has a decent and fun gameplay, it is hindered by the crappy level system and competetive driven.
The gameplay is actually fun, the problem this game has is that ... Those levels ... You, tought the game has a level barrier in each league so you don't encounter rivals with units +10 while you are in per say, bronze league ...
The Problem ... The Real Problem is that by the time is that there is a great division between new players and old players.
To be more clear, a new free to play player is most likely that they will have units up to level 6, 7, 8 or 9 at most when they reach Gold league ... The problem, the real problem ia that once you reach Platinum league, you would reach the level in wich those players who either Pay money to upgrade units or thos who have played for a long time, wich means that you would be playing against people whic units are at the maximun allowed level of the current level ... Wich mean that if you are either new to the game or F2P, you WILL playing at disavantage with people that either have much more experience playing or units that just by being in a superior level are stronger, wich means that new players will hit wall were their progress is extremely hindered becuse again they will be playing in disadvantage. A REAL Disadvantage.
When I started playing like a couple of weeks, when I go from Gold to platinum, I hit a wall where my 6, 7 and 8 level units where being crushed by my oponents with units in the levels 9 and 10, and seriously one level or two difference can be A LOT in this game.
At this level, you really, really, REALLY need to sharp your game to make up for that difference in firepower, and that disdvantage only grow when you advance.
This means that you will be either force to grind, and grind a lot until you get your units to higher levels, until you reach that equalization point. Or just pay.
This usually ends up discoraguing new players to stay in the game since by this point the game becomes extremely frustrating and really, really. REALLY HARD.
A recomendation, that other people had give me is stay in lower leagues by surrendering games to loose stars, so that way you can both practice and level up your units so when you reach superior leagues with units which levels start going from 10 up, you are in a better ground.
this game is from the same series which made RTS games popular in the first place .. how do you create such a disaster ?
This is my favorite mobile game. I'm in the diamond league right now
Glad you're into it!
Well I'm thinking that I will meet you somewhen
A not-bad mobile game but a very shitty decision for them to make it C&C. Who the fuck is making the decisions in EA with these kinds of stuff? They already know their reputation with C&C and they make this.
I guess they knew if they gave it the CNC name people would talk about it - for better or worse!
Gotta admit I was surprised that I enjoy it so far spent £10 on it didnt get anything great then got titans from a random crate I earned, it was at this point I discovered spamming titans wins lol
Until you get countered :P
@@Zade_95 it's rare, but yea does happen, although I dont spam just titans gotta put sometbing out whilst waiting for the cooldown lol
Maybe it's fine game, but this is not CnC that we wanted.
Company of Heroes is an example of a mobile RTS game. Play that instead.
Was released on the iPad in 2020 and yes mobile technology has gotten more powerful to start running full on proper PC strategy games like Total War, Company of Heroes, Xcom/EW/2/WoTC, all recent and future Strategy games on mobile ought to be measured against that from now on.
In this vein C&C rivals is not a mobile RTS.
when seeing CnC rivals for the first time, I couldn't help but thinking that they tried to copy Clash Royale
gotta laugh at people who play this especially when people complain about the updates.... as if the updates are supposed to improve the game and not EA's revenue
if you behave like a stupid customer, expect to be treated stupid ... you know what you're getting into when you sign up
Thing is, I can't get behind a game like this. The monetization for mobile games is something that I turn down right away. I don't play free2play games because they end up becoming the most expensive game you ever had, or a game you already tired out of if you are broke.
Now while Rivals might not be the most egregious example of overmonetized, garbage on the mobile game market, it still isn't command & conquer. It isn't the only game to hold it in title only renegade isn't really a command & conquer game either. But of you take away the command and conquer themes Tiberium, Nod, and replaced them with different aesthetics and factions, GDI isn't blue btw would this game get so much attention, or would it be like any other game.
The game takes more from the franchise than it gives back to it.
I've never spent a penny on the game, and I got every unit free within a month.
Reminder that Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath are the last mainline C&C games that are good. Screw Tiberium Twilight and screw Rivals even harder. The latter is the epitome of EA's greed.
Generals Zero Hour is. EA took over after that.
@@minh3264 For the Generals series. But here I was talking about the mainline ones. Generals 2 didn't even get released. Then again it's good it never did get released.
