Sigh... I've been disappointed in Drake for a long time as a rapper, but man... As a brand and a package that cat is insane. The vision behind everything. Even things that I think are his worst contributions musically are downright commodities that shape the game.
It's like he made the verse with this in mind. He really moves like that. Cole was bodying the song, Drake was coming for the culture, the spot light, the iconography. Smh
I gotta give him his credit. This video is a masterpiece and a straight chess move in so many ways.
I didn’t like his early/super soft/crying about Nicky all the time albums. Nothing was the same just came at the perfect time in my life and I used to cycle to it a lot. That and (if you’re reading this) were both a fun ride but most his verses lately I haven’t been feeling. Either way the man’s success is undisputed.

@@toonspade4646 Me? I'm still not a fan of him as a rapper. Lol I really like his pen when he decides to rap, but I think that he sacrifices that for a lot of what makes him an icon. It's just not for me. Sometimes his songs seem faux deep. That's been an issue I've had with him for a long time. It also feels like he's always copying someone else's culture or style and it doesn't fit him to me. It always feels forced and fake to me. Like I'm not seeing the real Drake, just a really well crafted character, and that's always bothered me despite his talent. And sometimes, it's enough to make me just not like the music. Plus, his quality control is horrible at times. He will drop the most CLUNKER of bad bars to be considered one of the three in contention as the GOAT from this generation.
I respect him as a music icon. I'm still not a big fan of his music. I've been going back through his catalogue though, to see where I was maybe blinded and just hating. It's hit or miss so far.

You're exactly right that Drake is a producer and knows to be understated and bring the sauce as you say. He switched up his whole style and got really simplified since around the God's Plan era. Notice how simple his verses became and how many switch ups in tempo he has after that period vs before. He just started thinking like a producer and made even more hits.
