I've literally JUST been informed by my Adam Audio rep that a February firmware update IS COMING. It will do two things, 1) Extend the timeout from 20 to 60 minutes 2) Allow the user to completely disable it.
It's not just notifications. I use an integrated mic/speaker for conference calls that work together to eliminate echo and feedback, then switch back to nicer speakers for listening only. Just another use case where auto-off will cause an annoyance. So glad they're updating the firmware; I'll see how things change after that's released.
The main issue with them is that on lower volumes they aggressively engage some low pass filter and everything messes up really bad. Adam says on their website that its a known problem and will be fixed in that same february update, but it means that I have to not use my brand new speakers for a month(or more if I'd have gotten them earlier), nice. I'm young and my ears are not yet fked up by loud liveshows which I almost never visit, but it's still surprising that literally nobody on the RUclips mentions this issue, although some people on the forums (one at least) did mention it.
Was surprised at how much bigger they sound for the size myself. A solid portable desktop speaker for sure that’ll accompany ATC SCM20s for production and enjoyment.
From Adam Audio's website... Backplate Room Adaption: Yes Position (Bass): 0, -3, -6 dB Desk (Low-mid and Mid): 0, -3, -6 dB and 0, -2, -4 dB Room Acoustics (Treble): 0, -1.5, -3 dB
I am sides up's cousin from Serbia. First of all, Merry Christmas from Serbia; it is January 7th and Christmas Day here. Actually it is evening here now. What A Coincidence!!! You reviewed the same Adam speakers that I sleepy eye found under my Christmas Tree when I woke up this morning. I also got a goat and a hen. What a Srecan Bozic this is for me. That means Merry Christmas.First...to receive the Adam speakers for a present under the tree and then to see you review them with a favorable review. I like that you use lots of orange in your videos including your suit. How you say...Miles Davis once came out with a cd called Aura which put all kinds of different colors to music. Each track is a different color. The track "Orange" is my favorite track musically. Thank you very much for this Christmas present and Srecan Bozic to you! That means Merry Christmas. Now here is my cousin from near the North Pole, sides up. "You forgot to thank me for the goat, ...and with such an outragous cost for shipping! But that is alright. I forgive you in all your excitement. As the Scientific Audio Guy, I wondered what you will use the extra few inches ofdesk space for, that has been provided by the smaller Adam speaker? Are there any real thin Rolo dexes that I don't know about? I always thought they were a little too wide. A company whose name begins with the letter A must have many advantages; which I can't think of any.. Maybe the singer Adam Ant, if he is tuning in, could name some for us, beinf first alphabetically.. A is the first letter of the alphabet and Adam was supposedly the first man. The last letter of the alphabet used to start with the letter A. It came right after Z and was our 27th letter. It was discontinued in the 1800s for being confusing or annoying or something. True story; look it up. The letter J was the newest letter of the alphabet to be added in the 1520s by an Italian author, and grammarian. Which reminds me, this is also Christmas Day for the Orthodox Jews; or Orthodox Ews befor the letter J was invented in 1524. In keeping with the theme, here is a one question test where you have to put these inventions in chronological order. No cheating by looking things up on the internet. Place these inventions or discoveries in chronological order with the oldest one being first and the newest one being last. A.The Wankel Engine was invented B.Jello was invented C. The word computer being coined D. The play Romeo & Juliet being written with Shakespeare using the relatively new letter J E. The discovery of the electron F. The Ice Cream scooper being invented. G. Beer being invented H. The custom of putting candles on Christmas Trees began. Merry Christmas and Srecan Bozic to you all whose Christmas is today
I did the exact same thing. I replaced a pair of Acoustic Energy AE1s with the DV3s. The AE1s were definitely "better," but oh man the free desk space!
Pffhhh,, where did u find that hottie,, ✨🔥😎🔥✨ I have 3 separate Genelec systems, 2 of them SAM, and it is very seldom, if ever, I find other so called "studio-monitors" listenable. If I wouldnt be so blessed as I am, I would go for a KALI Audio system, fx LP-6,s and their excellent sub 6.2. (Check out Erin,s test.) 5 string bass drop A - 27,5Hz. 88 key piano 27,5Hz. Synths - 0Hz. Pipeorgans - 16Hz. Drums - 0Hz,,, etc etc. Subwoofer is a must. Cheers and Happy New Years, Maestro+Tiger+Hottie+all cool audio loooovers,, 🍻🥰👍
@IrenESorius based on what? Kalis own site states -10db 39hz and -3db at 47hz for the LP6, and 37hz/45hz for the in-8. The lp-8 matches the in-8 bass spec, being 2hz lower at -10 and -3. The woofer is the same, the box volume and tuning appears virtually the same, the difference is the tweeter vs coax and crossover point(s). Less amplifier power in the lp series too. 40w woofer 80 watt total for lp-6, 60w for lp-8 woofer. 140w total for in-8, 60w to woofer. Somewhat surprisingly the in-5 actually gets an extra 20w for it's woofer. The lp-6 is objectively not capable of more bass output in max SPL nor is it's frequency extension out of the box any lower according to kalis measurements and common sense. If you want even more bass or to increase your bass extension with EQ within the output capability of the speaker, the larger 8" model - either one - will have more/deeper output than the 6"... Obviously. Certainly one could prefer the lp-6 or lp-8 for some reason, but the crossover of just 280hz to the midrange in the in-8 should have a detail advantage in the midrange, and it has lower system distortion at higher SPL too, due to the extra driver and the tweeter crossing higher, even between the two 8" models let alone the 6. I mean they don't make many products, so I don't think they have a more expensive one that's worse for no reason. Tonality can be EQ'd if you prefer one over the other, you could likely match it for the most part.
@IrenESorius I watch all his videos, but I'll check it out again. You're sure that's the in-8 vs LP 6, not in 5 or LP 8 or something? I assume you have it correct just double checking. My point would still stand regarding maximum low frequency output with the 8" driver, with 50% more amp power. Doesn't really matter what the out of the box frequency response shows, it matters what it's capable of, if you're interested in exploiting the maximum potential of either speaker. This is universally true for all speakers. The only thing I care about the frequency response graph for is showing fundamental driver or design issues that can't fully be fixed with EQ. Otherwise they mean very little because virtually ALL speakers should be EQ'd, and can be, so when evaluating bass performance what matters is a graph that would show frequency on one axis and maximum output under a given distortion threshold, say 10% down low at 30-40hz or lower and progressively lowering to 3% by say 80-100hz for example. As long as it's the same standard for each speaker that's what matters. A frequency response graph could make a speaker with a 15" woofer that can handle 500w look very bass shy compared to a bookshelf speaker, but with a more extreme example like that hopefully you see how meaningless that is regarding their true output capability, and EQ can completely change that. If you want the most bass you'd get either 8" Kali speakers, period.
Ok, you are right. And to be completely honest, the quoted text is from ChatGPT: "While the physical movement of a passive radiator is out of phase with the woofer, the sound waves generated by the passive radiator are effectively in phase with those of the woofer in the intended frequency range"
They operate like a port, a port is also "out of phase" - absolute phase that is. But they constructively interfere throughout the bass frequency range they are designed to augment. Passive radiators have even worse group delay than ported speakers (the bass impulse response / waterfall graph will be worse... The augmented bass of a ported speaker might be 1 cycle behind the impulse, while a passive radiator might take 2 cycles to get going, for example (not exact figures).
The passive radiators don't move instantly, there's a delay between the main drivers moving and the passive radiators moving. Also at the resonant frequency the main driver actually moves less and the passive radiator moves more. Effectively the passive radiator dampens the main driver and uses that energy to produce more bass itself.
My first decent speaker, the Polk 10s, sounded a little sluggish in the bass with it's passive radiator. Same with the original Vandersteen model 2 (a far better speaker). Like the bass was dragging its heels and lagging behind the music a bit. With better amps that lessened and became pretty good and nothing to complain about down there. Too bad the cabinet of the 10s was too wide. It was a smorgasboard for cabinet diffraction and standing waves, which are highly audible and became annoying to the point that I started to prefer my small metal cabinet Realistic Minimus speakers.
Some of you may scoff, but I'm really impressed with my Logitech Z3 desktop speakers with subwoofer. Surprisingly they're still available on Amazon as I have had them for years. I would be very surprised if these Atom D3V's would be any better.

Gaming is impossible with that shit - you can not hear any quiet sound like footsteps, but then shots are way too loud for my ears🤕
Didn’t hear that one! Thanks.
Like an automatic loudness contour?
@@RennieAsh not sure, but it mostly affects higher frequencies

Not one word about Bluetooth for the "DV3"...
Non-existent unfortunately.
With it's limited freq response, Bluetooth is not suitable for studio use
@@innabit5961 These are desktop speakers , not exclusively for "studio" use...
For $5 you can get a bluetooth receiver to use with it, it would be more than fine.
