You should only replace the video with the image of the map, and you can leave the voice playing, and also you can leave the video in a smaller window. Very Nice Episode. I wish you asked Mr. Makdessi that how could he possibly think that there was no religious preferences being put during all of the Ottoman Empire, when the Sultan was always considered the Caliphate aka Khalifa of the Islam of the world. Another small point, has he ever been to Qannoubin Valley, they literally have thousands of skeletons inside the caves that date precisely from 1700s to 1900s. Another small point since Mr. Makdessi seems to be an admirer of the Ottoman rule ( but not the French), and believes that there was actual equality during that time.. How can he explain the mass immigration that occurred during the Ottoman empire which started in the mid 1800s. If things were all good, why would they leave in such numbers
I liked the discussion ,valuable information identifying Lebanese historical origins ,outlining how Lebanon was established in the 19 century. If we all knew that before, we could had skipped a lot of obstacles that we faced during civil war.

Those who call themselves Arabists and the followers of Antoun Saade (who have since his death distorted his ideas to become only Arabists and sectarian) they all define well colonialism but they do not recognize the Arab Islamic invasion to the Middle East nor the Ottoman invasion and they try to promote a so called Arab culture when this would not have even existed had it not been to the Christians translators primarily in Baghdad who were the doctors, philosophers, engineers, caligraphists etc ... those are the ones who translated the books from Greek and East Syriac into Arabic and then had Arab students who continued but without the efforts of those Christians who were not Arabs and they still are not Arabs, the Arabs would not have had anything today. It is haunting to see two individuals who are supposed to tell the truth, tend to obscure that which they do not want to talk about honestly. As for the Ottoman invasion and occupation, are we supposed to forget and ignore that over 750.000 Assyrians الآشوريون in south-east what is today Turkey were slaughtered during the Genocide of 1915 - 1918 (continued till 1923) committed by Ottomans and their Kurdish tribes ? The Genocide of 1915 - 1918 was not only inflicted against the Armenians but against the Assyrians and Pontic Greeks. Comparing the numbers of victims shows that 2/3 of the Assyrian population in the Hakkari region in south-eastern Turkey today were annihilated and the Assyrians are the only ones who did not get the recognition of the Genocide committed towards them. The Assyrian Case and the Assyrians are the only people who have been purposely ignored as well as their legitimate rights to self determination. Therefore, when we watch two intelligent individuals taking a curve in history in order to show what they want only, doing that make them lose a lot of their credibility. As for those who identified themselves as "Syrians", it was the same as those who say "The Greater Syria" which geographically contains all the lands of the Assyrian Empire till Cyprus, and this is exactly what Antoun Saade used to build his political ideas. Mr. Usama Makdisi dodged the question from Jad Ghosn to explain what did being "Syrian" meant and Jad took the hint and continued his questions (unfortunately that was another untrustworthy answer) . Is the guest yearning to the Ottoman occupation ? Those peoples he is claiming that they rebelled and separated from the Ottoman rule were already occupied by the Ottomans so naturally that they rebelled when they were able to. I suggest that Mr. Makdisi and Mr. Ghosn re-read the Ottoman history in a credible way so they learn what the Ottomans did with the Balkan peoples who were Christians under the oppression of the Ottomans. The guest can not even deny what happened to the Armenians but he and Jad ignored totally the Genocide against the Assyrians . The Muslims who were expelled from the Balkans became Muslims forcibly due to the Ottoman invasion, by the time that the Ottoman rule began to crumble, the Muslims were expelled just like the Turks expelled the Greeks, however, many Turks remained living in Greece and other places while the Greeks were not allowed to return to their towns in Turkey, their churches were either destroyed or turned to mosques just like the Cathedral of Agia Sophia in Constantinople (Istanbul today). You have to be fair when you speak of history and not teach it only from the point of view which you like. As for the Ottoman rule, the Europeans did support the Ottomans (England, Germany, France, Russia and the Vatican) which remained silent towards the Genocide of 1915 - 1918 and just like what the U.S. does these days, the Europeans began to abandon the Ottoman rule when their interests ended just like what has happened since in the Middle East because of the political policies of the Americans, British, French, Russians, etc ... The interview would have been much better had it been more oojective, not biased and not Arabist.
كل الاشياء التي تحاول اتهام العرب والمسلمين بها تنطبق على الاشوريين ايضا, هل كانت الامبراطورية الاشورية التي تفتخر بها توزع الورود على سكان المنطقة ام كانت امبراطورية عسكرية قمعية دمرت اغلب مدن المنطقة؟ مدينة بابل لوحدها تدمرت ثلاث مرات على يد الاشوريين, ثم دار الزمن عليهم وفعل فيهم مثل ما كانوا يفعلون بشعوب المنطقة. اما الارمن واليونانيين فقد ثبتت خيانتهم للدولة العثمانية وتحالفهم مع الروس والدول الاوروبية لاسقاطها فماذا تريد من العثمانيين ان يفعلوا معهم؟ الخيانة العظمى في اغلب دول العالم اليوم عقوبتها الموت. والارمن واليونانيين ليسوا ابرياء بل هم من بدأ اولا بارتكاب المذابح بحق المسلمين ومن لم يقتلوه هجروه من ارضه.
كمية تزوير التاريخ التي تبثها طائفة ادوار سعيد هائلة، وصارت جزء من الرواية الغربية حول تاريخ الشرق الأوسط. قال شو يابا، الطوائف بالمشرق العربي العثماني كانت مختلطة ومتعايشة وقام جاء الاستعمار الاوروبي وخربطها. منطقة عايشة بحالة من الحروب الأهلية المتواصلة منذ معركة كربلاء وبيقلك متعايشين. احمد باشا الجزار السني والي عكا أحرق الجنوب اللبناني الشيعي - المسيحي تسعين ألف مرة، واعتقل قادته، وهرب أحدهم صدرالدين شرف الدين من سجن عكا، والتجأ الى النجف، وفرع من أولاده هاجروا الى قم، ومنهم ينحدر موسى الصدر، ومحمد باقر ومحمد محمد صادق الصدر (أبو مقتدى). هول هربوا من الوئام العثماني في المشرق؟ بعدين في كم حرب أهلية كتكوتة بلبنان ب ١٨٤٠ و١٨٦٠، وغزو ابراهيم باشا والحكم المصري للمشرق. كله حب وغرام ووئام وتعايش. ثم جوهرة المقدسي: الاستعمار أقام سوريا ولبنان وأدخل الصهاينة على فلسطين. يعني سوريا ولبنان صنعهما الاستعمار بس فلسطين موجودة منذ الأزل؟ وأحلى شي الحديث عن تجربة محلية دستورية ومساواة قبل وصول الاستعمار الفرنسي والبريطاني. عظماء مثل معروف الرصافي وطه حسين تم اذلالهم بسبب كتاباتهم المغايرة للسائد.

Very Nice Episode. I wish you asked Mr. Makdessi that how could he possibly think that there was no religious preferences being put during all of the Ottoman Empire, when the Sultan was always considered the Caliphate aka Khalifa of the Islam of the world. Another small point, has he ever been to Qannoubin Valley, they literally have thousands of skeletons inside the caves that date precisely from 1700s to 1900s.
Another small point since Mr. Makdessi seems to be an admirer of the Ottoman rule ( but not the French), and believes that there was actual equality during that time.. How can he explain the mass immigration that occurred during the Ottoman empire which started in the mid 1800s. If things were all good, why would they leave in such numbers

In terms of mass migration, there is an episode by Charles Al Hayek that provides a deep insight of what led to that massive migration.
I liked the discussion ,valuable information identifying Lebanese historical origins ,outlining how Lebanon was established in the 19 century.
If we all knew that before, we could had skipped a lot of obstacles that we faced during civil war.

Those who call themselves Arabists and the followers of Antoun Saade (who have since his death distorted his ideas to become only Arabists and sectarian) they all define well colonialism but they do not recognize the Arab Islamic invasion to the Middle East nor the Ottoman invasion and they try to promote a so called Arab culture when this would not have even existed had it not been to the Christians translators primarily in Baghdad who were the doctors, philosophers, engineers, caligraphists etc ... those are the ones who translated the books from Greek and East Syriac into Arabic and then had Arab students who continued but without the efforts of those Christians who were not Arabs and they still are not Arabs, the Arabs would not have had anything today. It is haunting to see two individuals who are supposed to tell the truth, tend to obscure that which they do not want to talk about honestly. As for the Ottoman invasion and occupation, are we supposed to forget and ignore that over 750.000 Assyrians الآشوريون in south-east what is today Turkey were slaughtered during the Genocide of 1915 - 1918 (continued till 1923) committed by Ottomans and their Kurdish tribes ? The Genocide of 1915 - 1918 was not only inflicted against the Armenians but against the Assyrians and Pontic Greeks. Comparing the numbers of victims shows that 2/3 of the Assyrian population in the Hakkari region in south-eastern Turkey today were annihilated and the Assyrians are the only ones who did not get the recognition of the Genocide committed towards them. The Assyrian Case and the Assyrians are the only people who have been purposely ignored as well as their legitimate rights to self determination. Therefore, when we watch two intelligent individuals taking a curve in history in order to show what they want only, doing that make them lose a lot of their credibility. As for those who identified themselves as "Syrians", it was the same as those who say "The Greater Syria" which geographically contains all the lands of the Assyrian Empire till Cyprus, and this is exactly what Antoun Saade used to build his political ideas. Mr. Usama Makdisi dodged the question from Jad Ghosn to explain what did being "Syrian" meant and Jad took the hint and continued his questions (unfortunately that was another untrustworthy answer) . Is the guest yearning to the Ottoman occupation ? Those peoples he is claiming that they rebelled and separated from the Ottoman rule were already occupied by the Ottomans so naturally that they rebelled when they were able to. I suggest that Mr. Makdisi and Mr. Ghosn re-read the Ottoman history in a credible way so they learn what the Ottomans did with the Balkan peoples who were Christians under the oppression of the Ottomans. The guest can not even deny what happened to the Armenians but he and Jad ignored totally the Genocide against the Assyrians . The Muslims who were expelled from the Balkans became Muslims forcibly due to the Ottoman invasion, by the time that the Ottoman rule began to crumble, the Muslims were expelled just like the Turks expelled the Greeks, however, many Turks remained living in Greece and other places while the Greeks were not allowed to return to their towns in Turkey, their churches were either destroyed or turned to mosques just like the Cathedral of Agia Sophia in Constantinople (Istanbul today). You have to be fair when you speak of history and not teach it only from the point of view which you like. As for the Ottoman rule, the Europeans did support the Ottomans (England, Germany, France, Russia and the Vatican) which remained silent towards the Genocide of 1915 - 1918 and just like what the U.S. does these days, the Europeans began to abandon the Ottoman rule when their interests ended just like what has happened since in the Middle East because of the political policies of the Americans, British, French, Russians, etc ... The interview would have been much better had it been more oojective, not biased and not Arabist.
كل الاشياء التي تحاول اتهام العرب والمسلمين بها تنطبق على الاشوريين ايضا, هل كانت الامبراطورية الاشورية التي تفتخر بها توزع الورود على سكان المنطقة ام كانت امبراطورية عسكرية قمعية دمرت اغلب مدن المنطقة؟ مدينة بابل لوحدها تدمرت ثلاث مرات على يد الاشوريين, ثم دار الزمن عليهم وفعل فيهم مثل ما كانوا يفعلون بشعوب المنطقة. اما الارمن واليونانيين فقد ثبتت خيانتهم للدولة العثمانية وتحالفهم مع الروس والدول الاوروبية لاسقاطها فماذا تريد من العثمانيين ان يفعلوا معهم؟ الخيانة العظمى في اغلب دول العالم اليوم عقوبتها الموت. والارمن واليونانيين ليسوا ابرياء بل هم من بدأ اولا بارتكاب المذابح بحق المسلمين ومن لم يقتلوه هجروه من ارضه.
مع كل الاحترام للمورخ والمفكر اسامه المقدسي في مورخين وطنينن مثل جمال واكيم اللي الف كتاب " جريمه بلاعقاب"

كمية تزوير التاريخ التي تبثها طائفة ادوار سعيد هائلة، وصارت جزء من الرواية الغربية حول تاريخ الشرق الأوسط. قال شو يابا، الطوائف بالمشرق العربي العثماني كانت مختلطة ومتعايشة وقام جاء الاستعمار الاوروبي وخربطها. منطقة عايشة بحالة من الحروب الأهلية المتواصلة منذ معركة كربلاء وبيقلك متعايشين. احمد باشا الجزار السني والي عكا أحرق الجنوب اللبناني الشيعي - المسيحي تسعين ألف مرة، واعتقل قادته، وهرب أحدهم صدرالدين شرف الدين من سجن عكا، والتجأ الى النجف، وفرع من أولاده هاجروا الى قم، ومنهم ينحدر موسى الصدر، ومحمد باقر ومحمد محمد صادق الصدر (أبو مقتدى). هول هربوا من الوئام العثماني في المشرق؟ بعدين في كم حرب أهلية كتكوتة بلبنان ب ١٨٤٠ و١٨٦٠، وغزو ابراهيم باشا والحكم المصري للمشرق. كله حب وغرام ووئام وتعايش. ثم جوهرة المقدسي: الاستعمار أقام سوريا ولبنان وأدخل الصهاينة على فلسطين. يعني سوريا ولبنان صنعهما الاستعمار بس فلسطين موجودة منذ الأزل؟ وأحلى شي الحديث عن تجربة محلية دستورية ومساواة قبل وصول الاستعمار الفرنسي والبريطاني. عظماء مثل معروف الرصافي وطه حسين تم اذلالهم بسبب كتاباتهم المغايرة للسائد.

حكي خاطئ جملة وتفصيلًا. الشام بالأصل عربية ووُجد أقدم حرف عربي فيها، كانت بها ممالك عربية كثيرة مثل تدمر وبهراء وحمص والغساسنة وتنوخ...إلخ. لكن احتلتها شعوب أخرى قديمًا ثم استرجعها العرب قبل أكثر من ألف سنة.
منطقة شرقي المتوسط تجمع اناس لا يعجبها العجب. تنوروا وافتحوا قلوبكم للعلم والمعرفة ولا تدعوا بالعلم فلسفة. الاخ الدكتور مقدسي انسان مثقف ومتزن. مثال لغد افضل في منطقة انتشر فيها التسوس والرائحة الفاسدة.
