I know this video is old but still holds true today. I’ve had my Red Dirt Devil it will be 30 years next year. This is the first time I’ve had a bit of trouble and it was the belt came off. I couldn’t figure out how to change or put it back on the brush bar and spindle. Watched 4 other videos and found yours, you made it look simple, and viola it went on without a hitch. Thank you so much for your help!!!
I had actually been using mine for quite some time without even realizing the belt was not on at all. 😜🤣 There’s so much suction. It worked great on my stairs, even without the little beater bar going. I just ordered some belts.
Very helpful video. Mine stopped working cuz a ton of long hair was wrapped around brush and displaced belt. Had to cut off hair. Video very helpful re: correct technique to reinstall belt. If yours keeps falling off watch video again. Thanks to commenter re: aligning arrows on brush and cover plate. Thanks guys!
12k views and only 21 comments, I feel obligated to do something about that. I coulda figured it out myself probably, but why reinvent the wheel? Watching a video is so much faster! Thanks especially for pointing out the brushroll caps have numbers, a first-order scraping off of gooey rust had not been enough to reveal them. Also, thanks to the commenter who said to match the arrows on the roll and its cover.
thanks for video! Also, any ideas on where to buy a new belt? I can't find one to fit the 103...all they have is the newer belts for 503 model which are not the same. Is there a Dirt Devil Belt "style #" that you can recommend? Or parts store...perhaps? thanks for any help.
Also might add. there is a height adjustment for the roller. On the ends of the roller it is stamped 1, 2, or 3. The end are offset so as to adjust the wear on the brushes. Be sure each end is set to the same number or you will get uneven height and vibration. Just sayin 'Mike
Yea I know there’s the different marks on the ends of the caps you can lower the brush when it gets worn out I wonder if they sell brand brand ne w replacement brushes online
I forgot to put it in the video. It’s belt number 1. If it’s slipping you probably are putting it on the wrong side. Does it slip as soon as you put the belt on?
You put the roller brush in backwards . There is an arrow on the roller brush and on the cover plate (which points to the right when viewed with the bottom facing up ) . Both arrows should point in the same direction (R) . Also there are two #2 height settings on the brush roller end caps which are offset to each other . Make sure to use the same offsets to keep the roller straight and not cocked at a slight angle . Either both up towards the front or both towards the back though with roller set toward the back the belt rides a little lower on the motor spindle reducing the chance of popping off .
I came here from watching one get destroyed honestly, but my grandma used to have one, we donated it to goodwill when she packed up the house to sell it
My belt VERY QUICKLY comes off. It is like the groove on the spindle has worn down. It slides off the spindle within a few sec maybe 30. Brand new belts. I know its spinning because the brush spins. Read down the comments and someone said belt on the “wrong side”. Tried that still slid off.
I had the same problem with a new belt, it kept slipping off after 5+ tries !. Then I watched this video and and read the recommendation to put it on from the right side. Now it worked right away. Thanks a lot for that tip Topfin, couldn’t Have done it without this video.😄😄
Very good instructions! I had tried and failed. Didn't know about the numbers on the brush ends. Made all the difference!
Thank you very clear instructions. It’s back to working.

I was going insane trying to get the belt on. You showed the easiest way. Thank you, thank you!!

Thank you. When replacing the belt do you twist it when you turn it to put it on the spindle?

Thank you for the video. The belt on mine keeps slipping off, do you think it's stretched out? Also what's the belt number? And where did you get it?

Do you have to have a cover on it I lost mine but I put a cap on it
Not really I guess it’s more for cosmetics it will work fine without it might fling a couple crumbs out it though.
how the belt goes on the 150a ?
where can i find a cap for ultra hand vac m08230x ?
Probably eBay check there
I would think it'd be easier to put it on the top first!?!?
My new belt just spins off the second I start it up. Can you tell me why?
You are putting it on the wrong you need to twist it on to the right
