Sawtooth artist and living legend, Vinny Appice, teaches you how to play the intro fill to the DIO song "Straight Through The Heart."
Just a monster drummer. Perfect timing and originality. Pure talent. Vastly under appreciated.
This guy gave those Dio albums the power they needed.
It's true.
I was fortunate enough to meet his brother Carmine years ago and I saw Vinnie live at the Sawtooth booth at NAMM2020. He was fantastic and the drums sounding surprisingly great. Most importantly, I chatted with him after and he was very, very cool and we had a heartfelt conversation about my mother’s dementia and passing ( he saw her picture in my phone wallet and asked about her). A great guy.
This man was born to play drums. Seems to be a cool , down to Earth man.
This is why he doesn’t need a double pedal. His right fooot is lethal
Vinny, Hermann Rarebell and Simon Wright are my favorite heavy hitters
I have always love Vinny's style...
I really appreciate Vinny 👍 it's so nice to have a real professional teaching us some cool stuff and I've been playing for 44 years and still have plenty of room for improvement 👍.
More videos vinny!!!
This is a great video.
I watch it every so often.
Just refreshing and inspiring and thought provoking.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love Vinny's playing. It's so powerful and has this heavy rockfeel to it. Through the years he has developed a style of his own and became a drummer in his own right, which is quite amazing when your brother happens to be Carmine Appice. People would say about Vinny: O, he's Carmine's brother. But now they say about Carmine: O, he's Vinny's brother.
I'm a bigger fan of Vinnie for sure
A few years ago I went to that Vinnie- Carmine drum battle event . I bought the deluxe package which included a private lesson with one of the brothers.
I was prepared to handle , deal with Carmine but … I was very glad when Vinnie walked in for session. Yes ! Great discussion and drum session. Rock solid
@@mattkanter1729 Cool that you met them in person !
It blows my mind how great these drums sound for the money..... just crazy
@@cpf383 Sawtooth. You can literally get these for under 600 bucks
I borrowed heavy from him in dio.taught me a lot.
Great video. I prefer this "Appice" to the other one, lol.
One of my big inspirations- and the fastest right foot on Earth!
I commented before, but I'm still blown away at how good these sound. The kick sounds like a 70s Ludwig....its crazy. Literally 600 bucks...and that Snare...damn
Awesome Vinny rules
Excellent job thanks for sharing
Best rock drummer of all time !
Many newer school metal drummers can't do stuff like this - they're too used to relying on double bass for everything.
Exactly. I ditched my double kick when I was 17, never looked back. This guy, Bonzo, Ian Paice, Johnathan Moffett... all have a fast foot
@ I agree 100% Fact
@ Don't take me wrong, I fully respect great double bass, if it's used TASTEFULLY. Theres a few that do that, alot don't unfortunately
@@mikefields4136
Danny Carey uses it tastefully, but Tool definitely aren't the typical metal band.
@ Love Danny!! I've been a TOOL fan since undertow! He is beyond this world
Bada-Bing. Bada-Boom. Boom. Boom. Big boom! 🔥 Love the space that kick fills. Evans heads?
You are the first person to play the 16th note triplet between the right hand , left hand and 2 bass drum 16ths like John Bonham did on Good Times Bad Times in 1968.
So, Vinnie, you and I didn't invent that drum lick, John Bonham did and I can do it as fast as Bonham or you because You and I do it the exact same way, which is 100%
correct. Not like Brian Ricky or any of the others that learned how to do some rocking horse movement with their ankle. We do it both with a lose ankle. I watched your foot
and we do it the same. I'm glad to see another drummer besides myself and Bonham who do it correctly.
I use the same approach as yall do. Almost a moeller technique for the foot...that loose ankle thing
Feel free to pad yourself on the back.
Can you tell us what kind of bass drum heads and the type of internal muffling, or muffling of the heads?.....great work, thank you-
To the one person who disliked this video... go speed at night... on a dangerous windy deserted road... intoxicated.....
I know right ? I would like them to try to play the drums like this guy . I bet they couldn’t get nowhere near it .
Good stuff
He's a BAAAAAD MAN!!!
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
snare sounds sick
Vinny, you should do a video on tuning the drums.
He's the reason I started following Dio. Then I met all of them and am still sad at Ronnie's passing. UGH!!
Este hombre no necesita doble pedal, y McBrain tampoco. Por eso sigo siendo un gran fan de ambos.
So he uses the drum sticks upside down? (I'm new)
I destroyed my knee trying to play the bass drum like this. I don't know why.
curious what pedal that is
With that red plate on the bottom it looks like the dw 5000
@@fabfishing7422 I thought so at first but the footboard and heel plate don't look like dw
@@ochocabra1542 whoa, you're right buddy! I know he was playing the d-drum Mercury pedal for a while. It looks similar to that pedal plate. Not sure, I'm going to have to get a closer look now. 🧐 Either way, Vinny Appice is the greatest hard rock drummer 😎💯💪
@@ochocabra1542 Bro I found it! Look up the Millennium Pro PD 122 Pro Bass Drum pedal. I just did a search on Google for red floor plate drum pedal. 🥳
@@ochocabra1542 I'm pretty sure that's it ...it looks like it.
Dio bain appice Campbell
Drum. God.
curious as to who owns Sawtooth?
Sawtooth Musical Instruments is owned by Ink America International Group, LLC.
Boom...
Dammit.. i was the 666th thumbs up! This is happening to me more than id like to addmit... oooooooo spooky!
Old school drummer...
Who needs a double bass kit? He dont! All he needs is 1 foot!
Quads rule.
Dmitry Owens Yep
e che cazzo...sembra così facile a vederlo!!.:-(
nothingto see here. I was doing this at 15
Double pedal sucks it's a cheap trick , this is much better
