WARHAMMER THRIFTING! What's In This £10 Case From 30 YEARS AGO?! TOMB KINGS or TERMINATORS?

- Опубликовано: 8 май 2022
- I picked this case up at a glance from a car boot sale last year. What's inside? Metal minis? Tomb Kings? Forgeworld? Who knows.

What a jammy bugger, glorious little treasure hoard there mate!
I've been picking up random listings of metal terminators and dreadnoughts over the last few weeks to build the Deathwing army I always wanted as a kid.
And that Rogue Trader Land-speeder goes for £40-£80 by some of the recent sold listings. Looks like yours is complete too, you found the pilot but said the gun was missing. I think I saw the multi-melta in your case during the overhead shots.
Must admit, don't like that version much myself, I prefer the 2nd Ed Land-speeders.
I don't think this is cheap content, I love watching a good rummage through boxes of 2nd-hand miniatures.
Anyroad, you keep on being awesome and take care ;)
pretty sure that is the 2nd Ed land speeder. The rogue trader one was way more open. The plastic base kit (with metal options for Typhoon/Torndo/Ravenwing leader was 3rd).
Also looked complete to me
@@kuhvacako nah those beakie marines were definitely rogue trader. Metal 2nd ed land speeder had mk 7 marines piloting and an armoured cowl at the front protecting the crew.
@@meanderingshade on second viewing I agree, I was wrong its the OG Rogue Trader Landspeeder
@@kuhvacako it was an odd and outlandish thing that 1st Ed speeder, wasn't it also used for imperial guard at the time?
I never understood the idea of the open front, putting the squishiest and most fragile part of the thing up front to take the hellstorm of incoming fire 😀
@@meanderingshade have to remember it was imperial guard and imperial space marines.
Guard could use all the same vehicles as marines.
Also marines where basically coked up criminals doing penal duty, pretty much marines from StarCraft (though RT is older)
the single Necron was probably from a free miniature from aWhite Dwarf. I remember when Necrons were first released, there was a free one in that months issue.
that wasnt that generation of Necron. The free necron you go was a metal one, I got that issue myself.
first gen Necrons were all metal, and had no green plastic rods. Those are from wave 2, when they actually got a codex.
The land speeder, if close to complete maybe missing a weapon which can be sourced, is the gem 💎 of that box 👍
it was in the box check 3:07 left of the red marine.
librarian nit a grey Knight. it came in the original terminators box
Oldhammer nerd checking in. The OG terminator box that included 8 models (captain, librarian with axe thingy, and 6 others which included an assault cannon, heavy flamer, power sword for the sergeant, 2 chain fists and 3 power fists) all the red terminators are from that and it looks like someone broke the assault cannon :( but they are from the era of lead.
The other terminators that are bulky are mostly space wolves and deathwing those are later pewter ones. All the mkvii/mkvi marines there are from various stuff: devastators, 2nd edition plastic marines, some space wolves, I could ID them all but it's awkward from the comments. Lovely haul for the price. Also the case is notorious for breaking so if it is functioning that is pretty cool!
Not that I hold a grudge at all, but the sight of metal terminator with the heavy flamer triggered a memory of one I had stolen by a "friend" 30 years ago.
What a treasure trove! Would be an amazing project watching you strip and paint these charming figures up..
You should make that Marines army a video series. Id be interested in seeing what flavour marines you go for with that many Termies.
I think I might do!
Just an unboxing video, but the production quality is slick and the music is super chill. Worth a watch.
Dave, man your channel never fails to put a big cheesy grin on my dial.
“ nan on the bus” nearly made me soil ma breeches 🤭
Certainly the highlight of the video haha
Wow 🤯 what a great find - I love these kind of mystery purchases!
At a car boot too! Will NEVER come across one this good again.
A real treasure trove.
That landspeeder would get close to 50 on its own. Also 1 of those terminators is a grey night and 1 is a captain (a few bob more..)
I would not pay more than £15 for that mk1 land speeder, but yeah, people _are_ paying stupid money for the metal Mk1 and mk2.
If I wanted one for myself, I'd just download a 3D print version - I don't know if there is one but I bet there is.
@@herculeholmes504 yeah, scarcity is driving up the prices by the looks of it. I like the old stuff so wouldn't want to print it, but have no issues with anything new 😅
@@Jimbo818 I'm partial to old school metal, it's more "real" than plastic or 3D prints - there is something about hand sculpting that's always more fun. But, a lot of those old models were roughly cast.
There's a free 3D print of an old RT dreadnought I printed that IMO has most of the character of the original, it's just bigger and much cleaner.
Nice haul, wouldn't mind more of this kind of vid actually. Or more trips to mirfield miniatures, that kind of thing. Keep up the good work. Anyone reading this: get on the Patreon, the discord community is top banana.
Noted! I shall make a reminder to chill out and do more fun stuff haha
Nice score! I found some old car kits on Craigslist in Baltimore about 9 years ago. I went to buy it all and there was a box of sprues with 5 Tomb Kings sprues complete with it all. I sold em on and I made 150.00 above what I paid for the car kits. Love me some T Kings!
the terminators with feathers and stuff are OG Deathwing
Thanks for the tip! I think there’s enough for one squad!
The awkward space marine-pose commentary cracked me up! From the second squad of terminators- one of them seemed to have like a power knife ... Any chance that's actually that old inquisitor in power armour model from rogue trader? That could be a good haul!
It could be! I need to take a look at all the comments that have identified stuff and figure out what’s what
Would definitely be up for stuff like this every now and then! Bloody good find too!
Nice find on the tomb king models, prices can be nuts on them.
Always liked the metal devastators, will be a nice addition to your classic army when cleaned up
I've started trawling through ebay for old gw minis for my nephew, he's after getting me back into the hobby in the last few weeks. Love the process of rehoming forgotten minis and reducing the chances of them going to waste. I'm hoping to save him money but I couldnt resist the chance to swipe some 1985 chaos dwarves for myself. Also Dave, that's one sweet omega seamaster you have there 🤟
The metal beakies with little wolf pelts are Blood Claws :)
That RT landspeeder is complete. The melta for it is in the case (it has a yellow gun tip). It can be cleaned down to bare metal with some acetone, and is a rare bit of kit that my fellow greybeards would pay for.
If I remember right some metal Terminators came in packs of two like the guy with the missile launcher.
Concise and entertaining, unlike most unwrapping vids.
The "donkey space laser gun" about the space wolf sergeants plasma pistol cracked me up. I remember all of these from first release..... damn I feel old now 🤣
i had that case, bought it as a kid, brand new, also had that speeder, before i knew what pinning was, fell apart all the time. the termies are multi generation, some space wolves, some the original blood angle box with the captain and librarian and some deathwing ones. the blue marines looks like the original mk7 ultramarines tactical squad (the sgt was what distinguised them) though any with wolf stuff on them would be grey hunters to go with the grey hunter space wolf sgt. a good haul there. the blood angel captain (the one with the skull encrusted scabbard) got redone in plastic a few years back but that metal guy is classicly cool.
Thank you for the info, should make it easier to put them into the army!
I so love your choice of music at the end of videos
Top haul, son. Proper Eddie Stobart stuff. All that's missing is a hunky chunky metal Bjorn the Fellhanded.
The contents look largely to be from 1991-93. So this kid would be a contemporary of mine. Was also a Space Wolves 2nd Edition guy back in the day. Just a shame the poor fella had spatulas for hands.
Excellent find’s Dave. If only you could find Hector now.
Loved this video especially the Clarence bit. I have one of those old GW cases with the same stickers and the latch on one is also broken, I thought for a minute someone had broken into the garage and nicked it.. 😂😂
Not me, Guv!
new subscriber, love the vid...some of those minis brought back so many epic child hood memories playing 3rd edition 40k
The multi-melta for the Landspeeder is the box.
That's a score. It's not content desperation imo, it's content variety, Keep up the good work! #saveHector
Thank you! Was definitely a nice breather from making stuff!
Can’t believe you found these at a car boot sale!! I’m off down the Knavesmire!!!
Is it bad I was hoping for the second option 🤣. But in all seriousness awesome vid always love seeing old metal terminators such an iconic look!!!
And yes plz old school space marine army is a must.
Fantastic haul, there’s some real buried treasure in there
Those cases, the catches broke so easily, but would still be nicely resilient and close with just one catch!
Nostalgia...
I have that exact same case, mine contains pulp miniatures. Great haul :)
Poor Lawrence!
Some gold in there, though! Do love those metal termies.
Nice haul!
I do love picking up older models when I find job lots but damm some of the paints people used to use
"And welcome to Antiques Roadshow, Warhammer 40k Edition!"
Had that on my clasp, remade one from 1.5mm plasticard and liquid poly - let dry then fitted it to the case.
Such nice finds are only possible in GB I guess... Nice one
I keep meaning to try my luck at carboots again. Maybe my nostalgia kicks in but the old models are goofy but have character and charm.
Hi Dave, top vid as always. Do yourself a favour, get the Isopropyl alcohol flung in the bin and invest in a tub of Biostrip20. Much safer, use on metal and plastic, infinitely more effective and smells all almondy and lovely. PS - loved the Seagal reference at the end, just missing the drum effect and zoom in on "the blood bank" 😁👍🏽
Love your watch mate.
I found two of those boxes , in a garbage pile ....
One was filled with a 90s Human army, and the other ones Wood ELF !
=D
Haha good find mate! There's a Job waiting for you at wardaddy miniatures 😜
Creased me with the nan on the bus comment
Haha, thanks mate!
I think I started with the 3rd edition Starter Box (space marines vs dark eldar). Ended up collecting Craftworld Eldar but I always had a soft spot for those starter models. My cousin ended up integrating the Marines into his Chaos army and we'd play the Dark Eldar in my Craftworld army as units of repented souls
That Khalida female TK mini is sitting around 80-90 dollars CAD now. Not sure what that would be in GBP, say 50-60 GBP? New to your channel and enjoying the content. /Cheers mate, from Canada.
That metal speeder bro. That'd go great in my retro dark angels army. Even if its incomplete, i probably have the bits to kitbash into table-ready. If you want to get rid of it let me know, we'll figure something out.
that's a nice find there fella god I miss the old metel marines with plastic arms
Can't wait for this retro army 👌
Would be cool to see a few other videos like this in future
How? Is he supposed to go out and magically find a crazy treasure trove in someone's garage every month?
Been a while could be wrong, some of the plastic marines looked to be from Space Crusade .
Either that or original 2nd ED 40k box I reckon
Dave you have well under valued that land speeder, the crew are worth £15 each never mind the rest
Had a nosey on eBay sold and was seeing maybe £25 complete! I’ll have another look
@@MSPaints Another good bit of "content" might be to find a model with multiple components and then get every other nerdy geek like us lot to source the various bits (and possibly even paint them to a theme) send 'em in then assemble. Maybe stick a wash or glaze over to blend all the shit together. A bit like a very small, amateur version of the Zorps Minas Tirith City Build that you contributed to (but smaller scale and clearly a bit shitter) :)
As a novice in Warhammer I was unfamiliar with some of the models, but I must say a very nice haul for a cracking price. 👍🏻🇦🇺
I got pretty much most, Its a lot of coin to Oz collectors'
Holy moly, I have the majority of those from 30 years ago!
That’s either some good holiday money, or some fun painting projects right right!
@@MSPaints With Inflation these days it's cash for some new Nike Air Jesus's AKA sandals, Brah.
Keep up the great vids. Thanks.
Off to the Carboot this weekend then!
Dave I'll have a root round but I think I might have the top weapon for the speeder.( I think I put the imperial guard version over on Facebook. I know I've got another Imp one in the bit box.)
Cheers lad! I’ll get this thing cleaned up and see what it actually needs!
Are you planning on making more videos about your Seraphon army? Would love to see it!
Down the line I will be, yeah!
@@MSPaints Super happy! Keep up a great work!
I have a case just like that, it even has the stickers! 🤣🙌
3:58 your terminator if plastic was the one that came with the citidel paint kit mid 90s. except he has been bodged with the sergeants power sword arm
Damn, I recently got bitten by the Bretonnian bug and Ebay prices made my eyes water so it's 3D printed knights from etsy for me!
That said there's no beating a vintage old miniature- really wish I could pick up warhammer stuff at a garage sale in my area of residence. Really enjoyable video, mate!
holy crap.. even if you paid $20 for that box... the models are 5x the value of that. those old boxes used to roll up to $100 bucks alone. 2x term squads plus whats clearly duel blisters (the cyclone missile term) is well over 70 bucks for the all the terms. that box is such a gold mine for classic loaded box.
a bunch of old spacewolf figs in the box,,, the marines in the same pose are from the blood claw pack,,, the terrmie with the power axe is a physker .. most of the other metal are wolfs, couple blood suckers in there but a lot of wolfs..
I sure miss safety frog too...wonder if he'll try to get a message to ya???lol 😆‼‼
Maybe! I haven’t come across one yet!
@@MSPaints guess we all need to keep a extra eye(📷) out in case he sends one🐸 ya think??🤔
Good haul
Beautiful haul my dude 👌
Beauty ain’t it? And useful!
@@MSPaints to right Bruda !
If you know what you're looking at then car boots are a money spinner. So much I've probably walked past that was worth a mint. GW and console games are where my knowledge is at.
So hard to get console games now! Retro ones at least
Just belly laughed all the way through this vid while trying to eat my tea 😂😂 dave u never disappoint with slapstick humor 😅👌🏻
Oh man, haven't watched this one in an age! I'll have to give it a watch, forgotten everything i said in it haha
@@MSPaints some bangers in there. Im new to the channel, back to the hobby after 20 year break, must of banged my head😂. Been hammering lots of content, found your channel and now slowly going through it all.
Fun channel!
the terminators are from the old 8 figure box set
We need an army showcase of them old models
Marine devestator box set.
Termination box set.
Soacewolf terminators
Whirlwind terminator
Land speeder from devestators bos set (had a tarantula and thud gun as well)
What a score. Well worth a tenner.
Forget Isopropyl for metal minis... Use the nasty Universal Solvent that melts plastic for that. Cleans enamel, acrylic or tile-paint as easily.
Some of those metal minis will have plastic arms/weapons and stuff, though, so be be sure to seperare those out.
@@f0rth3l0v30fchr15t That! Because it will "clean" the pewter of it, too...
I remember having that same case, and I think I also put those stickers on it. The case may be closer to 40 yrs old, or more. I know the LS and some of those termies are.
Woo! Yeah the stickers seem to be the same on all the cases, but if you say you put yours on I’m intrigued!
@@MSPaints a lot of the early promotional stuff from back then was limited to things like those stickers. And seeing as the vast majority of mini cases were repurposed gun boxes, a lot of us used the stickers to make it clear what we were using the boxes for.
Yo MSP.
Not been into playing 40k for yrs n yrs and absolutely sucked baws at painting and loads of dice rolls.
Second Edition was my jazz.
You've totally inspired me to get the old Sisters of Battle in Iso 😉
Cheers skipper , 90s space wolves termins are also in the pile of shame 🤦
Also, thanks so much for the incredibly well produced and downright straight fire comedy vid 😅❤️
Check interwebz pics of that Landspeeder because I swear I saw the gun in the case as well... I think it's a little multi melta thing? Retro SM Army with Retro Landspeeder, sweet.
Think the land speeder is complete...the loose “odd” melta gun was for that.
And as probably already mentioned...you have termintor characters in there...librarian, captain, and chaplain
love a carboot, i picked up an entire tables worth of plaster terrain pieces for £6 quid once... felt like i had cracked the system!
Testors Easy Lift Off is an awesome way to strip minis.
The metal marines pay for that after selling 3. Big demand on TK, and I think the first one shown is pretty scarce.
I'm pretty sure that you have the original terminator box set.
Nice mix of late 80s to 00s
Nice find.... how are you going to strip them?
Probably iso will cut through all that stuff!
I had the very same case with the very same stickers. Makes me think....
To be fair there are many gems at the York racecourse on a Saturday morning
Leave in original dettol undiluted for a week and it falls off itself, no harm to plastic or metal
fuu good price!! :D
Old Russian Vibrators. God's I nearly fell off the sofa laughing.
Lovely haul! Such a bargain. Can you do a. Vid on stripping the tile paint marine? I would love to see the 95% swearing vid 🤣
Loved the idea of land speeder Nan, maybe a custom chapter of the Grey Growlers? Paint up some blue rinse action 😄
Haha, yeah I need to do a stripping paint one. The answer every time is isopropyl alcohol. There doesn’t need to be a video over 30 seconds in length
@@MSPaints but the grey growlers are a go-er right? 🤣
#saveHector
Hey Dave, what camera mount are you using for the above shots? Needing to find something similar and have no clue where to begin
It’s a rode microphone arm thing. Costs about £70 I think. It’s not ideal though, has a decent load it can take but I have to use small lenses. Can’t really complain since the a7iii with cage sits on there just fine
@@MSPaints oh okay, i'm looking at a Panasonic Lumix FZ80 for my first camera so it might be perfect for what I need it for. Hoping to join the whole miniature painting youtube thing later in the year, just gotta get the gear first and move and then I should be sweet to start doing stuff haha
@@MSPaints thankyou for that too man, means a lot!
@@brandonchaplin9782 yeah man, it should be able to hold that no problem. Especially with a light kit lens. Good luck!
@@MSPaints sweet! Thankyou so much man!
Does Warhammer turn up at car boot sales much? I don't recall seeing any, but then again I've only recently gotten in to it so I guess I probably didn't notice
Shit... wow. Good job Dave. We have four fifths of fuckall in Oz these days to find real cheap. Well played :) btw Acetone great for cleaning metals..
Noted on the acetone!
pffffft Click bait 😂.... hahah nah, I found that really entertaining. I need to find me some car boot sales!
You’re telling me! I’m almost upset this took no effort and is my best performing video ever.
@@MSPaints I know the feeling dude haha .... No machine guns, no explosions, no portals through time. What do people even want ??? lol
Having sold off a whole load of 25-30 year old miniatures on eBay recently I can confirm that Space Marines in comparison to most other stuff of similar age are essentially worthless.
Ehhh i'd reconsider fobbing off the Rogue Trader landspeeder as tat mate.
Haha, luckily didn’t throw it in the outside bin.
@@MSPaints Ahaha, i'd have been in after it.
First vid of yours I watched and I nearly fucking died with laughter at some of the shit you said cause I'm trying to get over a chest infection, I've subbed purely on the basis that you're funny as fuck lad. 😂
gw case 10 pounds bargin, 20 pounds probably. metal terminators, space hulk must be, :)
space marines, gw mini's 1 pound per man average second hand. characters are more.
you got a bargin.
question ? what do you do when you actually get all the models you ever wanted ?
i love yours, lukes and pickle jars videos. great inspiration.
but i been collecting minis for years and now i ran out of space and pretty much got all that i wanted.
any idea's ? lost my motivation.
