@@stageleftaudio Having this kind of relationship with bands is priceless. It's one of the things I strive for, particularly with bands I work with often.

I use the Drawmer DS404 and 201. They are amazing gates, they have internal and external sidechain. The internal sidechain has frequency dependent selection which works amazing on drums. 😍

      Thanks for your comment.
Regarding the 4-ch gate, here's a video clip of the "beckwith" band (from Jan. 2023), where I briefly talk about the controls on that gate.

"cans" being so strongly associated with headphones, and "drums" being so strongly associated with drums, really makes me scratch my head 🤪🤪

Thanks for your comment! "cans" - a termed I picked up in the mid 80's when I started getting involved with live sound. Headphones back then were not that good... we just called them "phones".

@@stageleftaudio that's fun :) And it throws off anyone who follows you on the mixer 😄I wonder what this guy was mixing? 🤪

hey @stageleftaudio, why do you set your drums, your vocals and your Instruments to one group each? And what do you do then with those stereo Instruments (for example two mics for the Amp of Guitar oder Piano)? Or if you just want to her the different toms a little bit scatterd? Because with this arrangement the stereo idea is just not useable, isn´t it?
    I love your videos btw.

Good question. The instrument and vocal groupings are setup to allow me to turn down (or up) all the instruments (at the sub-group) instead of each individual fader. For example, when the band takes a break, I just move the sub-group faders down. Then, when the band starts again, all I need to do is bring up the sub-groups; the individual faders do not need to be touched.
You may not be aware, but stereo sound is rarely used in live sound. A stereo "image" in your headphones, or a small room, does not work in large rooms with a live band (due to physics). All of the events I mix (including the events my company is hired to do) are all in mono. Mixing an event in stereo will only benefit the people directly between the speakers (including the FOH position). We do have a video on our channel that covers running sound in stereo vs. mono. Thanks for your comment.

Another great video! Did you use any condenser mic(s) on the drums? If so, what location(s)? Thanks.

Thank you for your comment. A condenser mic was used over the ride, and one to cover the hat and crash.
