How to Build a Hydrofoil: Fuselage - Tapping Threads (Video 12/15)

In this video, we tap the threads into the aluminium fuselage. These threads are for the M6 Screws to attach through the wings of the foil and screw into the fuselage. To tap the threads, we use a Metric 6MM Tap. As described in the video, some tips for tapping aluminium. When starting the tap, to try and keep your tap square to the top of the fuselage surface to make sure the screw goes in straight. Keep moderate pressure down to let the tap thread correctly. Once you start to feel pressure in the tap as you are turning it clockwise, reverse the direction half a turn and clear the thread. Then thread clockwise 1 full turn, back half a turn, forward full turn and so on until you have gone through the thickness of the fuselage. The Tap thread is tapered so it's important to continue several turns past the other side of the hole until you feel the Tap is spinning easily. Then you know it's a clear hole. When removing the tap form the hole once threaded, be carful to remove it straight. you can do so by placing your fingers under the handle of the tap and apply slight upward pressure to help bring the tap out straight while you unscrew it. Thats it for this video! In the next video we do the final work on the fuselage and we are done!!!
