Australian main roads need to watch this video and learn how to build connectors ( freeway on and off ramps) properly for example over in Western Australia they have traffic light junctions / intersections on their freeways ...
Well that was when Perth in the 1900’s thought traffic lights were revolutionary but now there an piece of crap now Mark McGowan has to literally put big intersections like bridges over roads but don’t blame us blame the zoning system that put traffic lights it’s because of volume but now traffic is getting intense so now we’re doing so many configurations and the railway lines also a them put traffic lights at low volume intersections
The Connector is all good except for the left side ramp onto SB I-4. A wall blocks the view of traffic bearing down on you at 80 mph in the "fast lane," most people's right side mirrors aren't set for that angle, and at 45 mph, the merge lane itself gives you only 4 seconds to either merge or stop. It's a very dangerous merge and the lane should be much longer. A bad accident us inevitable. Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how'd ya like the play?
Very cool looking. But I still don't see why it takes years to finish a relatively small project. Back during construction of the Interstate Highway System, over 1,300 miles of interstate highway was built each year. But for some reason it takes guys today years to build less than a mile of roadway. 3-4 miles of Ulmerton Road in Pinellas has been under construction for 11+ years! No exaggeration either...you live near Ulmerton, you know. Why take over a decade to improve a roadway? They didn't even build it from scratch! Just improving it. Tell you what, I believe Pinellas could really benefit from having a N/S interstate. But it would take these a-holes 150 years to build it! The construction industry today, what a joke. Now I know where the term "highway robbery" comes from
I would say different construction techniques and not as much money allocated to the DOT each year compared to at the time of the original construction of the Interstate Highway System.
§paethon There were plans for a N-S freeway through Pinellas in the 60s and 70s, when there was actually some undeveloped land, but they were blocked by the not-in-my-backyard crowd. I-175 and I-375 were supposed to continue west. Gandy Blvd was supposed to be a freeway from the Selmon Expwy. to I-275 or further west. And a N-S freeway was planned along US 19. You can thank the NIMBYs in the 70s for the lack of freeways in Pinellas.
§paethon Construction of the Connector took less than 4 years (March 2010 to January 2014). It is short, but also a large, complex project with a few miles of bridges over two major highways, active rail lines running to the Port of Tampa, and I think there was a large gas pipeline through the site. I don't think it took too long to complete. You should go up north, where a similar project would take a decade.
I spent 3 years on that job running a crane. Great job !!! Incredible to see it all come together in that manner !!! BRAVO !!!
I was QC on this job for 2 years. Long days and nights.
Florida FTW!!!
