*Note the ToDo dies do not fit in the machine and may cause damage to your Gemini & Foilpress machine and will void your warranty.
Crafter's companion sent me the Foil Press to review.
I recommend reading your user's manual before starting any project. I am not responsible for misuse or any damage you may cause to your Gemini or Foil Press.
Well, After much procrastination I jumped in with both feet and purchased the Gemini Junior and the Hot Foil Press. ALL of your videos have convinced me that it is the way to go. Thank you so much Nancy for all of your Demos!!!!
I love what you have done. I haven’t been as successful yet in getting a good strong image.
Nancy, Thank you for another great video. I have found that when using a large background die, any paper shims I add can be no larger than the heat plate or there is a very, very slight area where there is not consistence, level pressure and in that area it is very hard to get a clean foil press.
When I get home I have to try this technique. It's gorgeous.
Thanks Nancy. This video convinced me to get the Foil Press. Just got the bundle at a great deal. I appreciate all your education. 😊
I have a Go Press & Foil machine right now, and it takes all of the foil stamps including the TODO stamps. It also has a foil transfer plate for use when you want to transfer the waste to your card. It also works fabulously. I am happy you did this demo on the Gemini Foil Press as I was thinking about purchasing one to go with my Gemini die cutting machine, but I think I will stick with my Go Press & Foil for now. I use my GP&F in my Platinum 6 and my Big Shot machines as well as with my electronic Cut'n'Boss. At the end of your video you said you had the Go Press & Foil machine but you hadn't used it yet...will you be doing a demo with that one also? I'd really like to watch it if you do. Thanks, Nancy, for your candid demos. Cheers!
Your comment is very interesting to me. I got the Go, Press and Foil and it didn't foil well at all. I ended up sending it back. I wonder if I had a bad machine. I have gotten the Foil Press, but haven't had a chance to try it out.
Maybe you didn't let it get hot enough, or maybe you didn't slow your roll if you are using a manual machine.. I haven't used it in my Gemini at all, but I do use it in my Cut'n'Boss. If you use a manual machine, you may need a shim, but you don't need one with an electric machine. I love my Go Press & Foil....I've never had a problem. I spent about an hour or so trying different weights of cardstock until I got used to it. It also foils fabulously on Mirri Card. I'm sure the Foil Press will work just as well for you, but it's a pity it doesn't take the TODO plates as they are fantastic and they also have dies that will cut out your foiled image...Cheers and Merry Christmas!
Another awesome tutorial by my awesome mentor. Very well done Nancy. Can't wait until I get one.
Thank you so much for taking the time and expense to teach us! I really enjoy watching your videos! Please keep them coming! :)
Great sharing! Thank you! Haven't tried mine. Hope to tomorrow and decide if I will keep or not.
Thank you for a very informative video. I am getting ready to buy the foil press so this video was a lot of help to me. Thank you for your time.
I'm going to have to rewatch this. I have tons of glimmer foil and need to get the heat/timing combination right. I played a bit tonight and the Gemini foil did good but my glimmer foils with the same settings did not foil well..
Hi Nancy you have done it again another absolutely very well explained video tutorial on u tube thank you so much for taking the time to share your fab tutorials I really love watching your tutorials you are so thoughtful about all you explain a very big 👍up to you ....please can u tell me is it possible to foil with embossing folders using the new gemini hot foiling press machine I will be very grateful and appreciative thank u ☺️👍 xx Lin in South Wales uk
I would like to the the answer to this as well.
Thank you, I will try it with another machine when I purchase the FoilPress, as it's not available here in England yet.
Thank you for great video. Lot of information, guidance and advice regarding types of foils and dies to use...brilliant!
Thank you for sharing the information. It is very helpful! I do have a question on how or even if we can foil something after embossing with embossing folders such as the 3D's and others folder. If possible could you create a video for us. Thanks.
That's a great Idea. I would imagine foiling it first and then embossing it would work. I will put it on my list to try.
That is a great idea to emboss and then foil a piece of cardstock. Have you tried it Nancy, if so, is there a video that you made? Thank you.
Thank you it's been a big help to watch x
New subbie here. Love your video. I bought the Hot Foil Press when it first came out and after watching your video, I have taken it out and I'm now going to use it. Thanks for your video and I look forward to watching more!
Brilliant, thanks so much for showing .. x
Yes like Sherry I wonder how it would work with another cutting machine. It is a matter of thickness of the platform of the Gemini Foil press and therefore shims.
Would it be possible to foil with an embossing folder (i.e Sizzix one) as it is possible to do with the Gopress ? Though do not want to put you in a difficult position with CC’s.
Hi Nancy, thank you for another great tutorial. Please can you tell me if normal dies can be used with the hot foils?
Yes, I'll link the video
Brilliant... thank you!,
Feather die is Elizabeth crafts
Hi Nancy, I just got my Gemini foil press and I can’t seam to get the green light for any setting, am I doing something wrong?
ruclips.net/video/wvieUDq1-vU/видео.html
Lovely video, very informative, thank you! I have bought quite a lot of dies and foil plates but did not keep them separated. Is there some way for me to tell the difference? The only thing I have thought of is to try all of them on paper. I’m thinking the foil plates would not cut the design. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Correct, foil plates are "flat" dies will cut the paper. Sometimes they are different colors.
Thanks for the great tutorial. Question why does over-foiling happen? What can I do to stop that?
If there is too much foil (cut it down to match the size of the area foiled). Too much pressure, remove some shims, or too long on the heat.
I keep seeing these video tutorials and I am assuming that once the heating foil element is complete you run it through another machine to create a press (impression)? It would be helpful if these tutorials showed the whole process.
yes a die cutting machine like the Gemini Jr, Gemini machine for the FoilPress, there are other Hot foil machines that work with other die cutting systems
Thank you so very much for all your help, although just a little confused when you are using the foil press and you say you are using paper? Do you actually mean card - I could watch you for hours - thank you once again! ❤️
Yes Gemini has "paper" foil and mixed media foil, that's what I mean when I say Paper Foil.
I love you showing us how and what you use could you please tell me do you put all of the Foil Press bases through the gemini.
Patricia please email me at Nancystamps15@gmail.com
CC says not to use the multi-purpose foil with paper as the machine has to use maximum heat and that possibly could start a fire.
So you can use regular cutting dies in the Gemini Foil Press? Thank you.
Yes, but you want to make hour sandwich soft with an embossing mat so the die doesn't cut through
What type of foil do I use on laser printed cars stock. Will use swing line laminators. Thanks
Toner foil. If you join the Foiling Snobs Club on Facebook I have all the information of vendors.
To do the back ground foiling waste try the metal shim, foil,, card then plastic shim , as you would the Todo , I'm thinking of getting this after Xmas when it comes to uk,. Jx
I finally got it to work.
Great tips for the Gemini - one question , do i need to have a Gemini junior or can i use my Big shot? Thanks for any help!
Hi Gin, I can answer that question for you if you can email me please at: NancyStamps15@gmail.com
You need a special plate for the big one
Will the foil come off of your magnetic plate? What’s the difference between the foils? Will any laminator machine foil the card stock?
Using acetone will clean off the foil. The foils are 2 different kinds and you don't want to mix them up. If you check out the Foiling snobs club on Facebook, there is FAQ information on the different foils and machines.
Really interested in how normal Dies foil so your video is very helpful. Have you tried any of the birch press dies ugh as the Epiphany? I wonder how just one of the layered dies would foil. Thanks!
No, I don't have the birch press yet, too expensive for me.
this may be a silly question, but does this press support using inks instead of foils in order to create letterpress cards?
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/DV4TqMv2e1g/видео.html
Please can you explain what is the difference between the “mix media foil and paper foil”? Many thanks.
The mixed media foil is designed to stick on all surfaces. The paper foil is for paper.
Will the Gemini follow machine work on a regular Anna Griffin die? Can you foil a die of hers?
Sure thing, I'll do it today.
Thank you for showing me that
I would buy it if I could use my own dies and cutting machine. If that's not ok w/them, then I'm not interested in buying the press.
Can I ask why you did not use the metal plate that came with the foil press ? Instead of using the metal
Plate for the Gemini ?
when I use the gemini dies with the gemini foils I am getting a lot of foil residue around my foiled die , why would this be. I noticed in the manual it only gives you times when using 300 or 350gsm cardstock, I am using stampin up which is about 220gsm. Getting frustrated.
Cut the foil to match the size of the die, try low heat for 10-15 seconds. 300 gsm to them is 100lb to us. Stampin up is about 80lb. So less heat and time should work Angela.
@@NancyStamps Thank you I'm in Australia so we go by gsm. I have been using stampin up cardstock but it is only 216gsm or 270gsm on the thick white one.I did do the low heat and for the 10 seconds. I have packed it away now and will try again in a week or so maybe, I'll try the 15seconds and get myself some 300gsm cardstock to see if it makes a difference. Ange
Ok let me know how it turns out, just takes some practice and I write down what sandwiches work, heat and timer with certain papers
@@NancyStamps thankyou
I think I will cut out the item first and then foil
Helpful tutorial thanks so much
Can you use any dies or does it have to be dies specifically for foilpress?
Gemini Foilpress dies, Spellbinders Glimmer Dies, Couture Creations dies...all work but not ToDo dies.
have you ever tried hot foiling with custom polymer plates as they are used in professional hot foiling and printing machines?
Can you use normal dies for foiling?
Yes just the outlines: ruclips.net/video/Ptdgr49FPZM/видео.html
I am just starting to get into paper crafting, so I am trying to understand how all these machines work. Could you tell me if I can use the Gemini FoilPress (that I just purchased) and the Spellbinders Platinum die cutting machine to get these same results? Thank you.
No, the foil press is designed to work with the Gemini cutting system.
They said you could use it with other die cut machines like big shot...but it doesn’t tell you how. Have you tried it with anything other than a Gemini?
They do not want the Foilpress used with any other die cutting machine except the Gemini or Gemini Jr.
Thanks for the reply...I wish Sara hadn’t said that on her commercial...she said any machine except cuddle bug. 🙁. Thanks for your videos
@@craftsy9078 I think she might have been referring to the dies maybe?
Does this work better than go press and foil?
The Gemini paper craft foil takes less time and less heat, the multi surface foil is about the same as Spellbinders glimmer and go press & foil
Hi what plate do you need for it to go though a a4 gemini xx
You need the top adapter plate.
to be honest they will tell you to only use Gemini dies, because they want you to spend your money on their dies only. great video thanks.
Exactly!
Would you do a side by side with the go press n foil and the Gemini FoilPress
I gave the Go Press and foil away. I only have the gemini now.
So you have to have that Gemini machine too?
Yes or Crafter's companion will void the warranty
I'd love to know if stampin up dies work with this
Yes, all dies except ToDo
Loved you video. Lots of good info. I am just wondering what the name of the CC background stamp was? I would like to purchase that stamp if possible. I live in Arizona. Thank you.
Thank you....
What is a Todo dies?
ToDo is a UK company that also does hot stamping. Their dies are really thick.
Hi, Could I use this machine with a Craftwell Ebosser?
I'm not sure of the clearance Mary. CC only recommends the Gemini.
I have the Go Press & Foil machine and it works great in the Cut'n'Boss … you just have to put your B plate on top. I'm not sure about this Gemini Foil Press, there seems to be limitations as to what it can do. I am looking forward to reading Nancy's answer to your question as I would like to know also.
No metal plate came with the foil press
Have you tried any foils from AliExpress?
no, I really don't like to support them, sorry.
Can you use the foils they use for the spellbinder machine
Yes!
Why can't you use todo dies and foiling dies?
smartjulia the todo’s are too thick to go though the Gemini cutting machine so they should be avoided.
But then could you send it through any manual die cutter?
That’s a question I ask on another video. Is this foil press going through manual cutting machine? Might need shims to adjust but Nancy is the only one that can answer.
CC is afraid they'll miss a dime.
Not true. Sara is the first to say that it will take any die. She is by far more generous with her products than most
.
