I heard that no one on production or cast thought the movie was gonna do well so they all just had fun with it. That’s why some of the acting is real iffy in some spots but tbh I feel like that’s what makes it a classic.... also Gabrielle union was damn near 30 playing a high school she was one of the oldest “teens” on the cast and I wouldn’t have guessed it at all lol. I actually feel like they’d make horrible cheerleaders. Cheer is about being sharp and hitting things and ballet is about being soft and feminine.

the opening scene was making fun of cheerleader stereotypes. i loved this movie because it tackled social constructs and how people of different backgrounds approach social injustices.
That's how my high school was. Our football team couldn't win if their life depended on it... But our cheerleaders were always in state and national comps. They actually built a whole new high school a few years after I graduated and made their football field NCAA regulated... spent all that money, and they are still horrible.

My high school is like that but instead of the cheerleaders being great, it is the band. People won't leave the bleachers during half time so they can watch the show. They win all types of competitions. The school had to build a new trophy area and band hall. The band is so good, that the band members are actually the popular kids.
@@emtims1670 WOW! That's awesome! Our baseball and softball teams were great, and they put they're field behind one of the middle schools. It was like, a bare minimum type of thing. Especially with how extravagant the football field is. I know there are lots of movies about teams in the south being SO good... but that doesn't mean all teams from the south are good. As Billy would say, SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT!
Bring it On was really ahead of its time man. It tackled cultural appropriation, and dismantled the misogyny ridden cheerleader tropes of the 80’s and 90’s. Cant say the same for the rest of the Bring it On movies though 😅
Fun fact about the scene where she's dancing in her room: there's no actual music playing. It wasn't finished by the time they got to this scene, so she's just dancing to the director playing the guitar behind the camera.

The most iconic parts is when Missy shocks the cheer squad with her moves and when they go head to head with the other cheer squad at the football game.
Missy was my favorite in the whole movie period.

Originally the movie did have more of the Clovers in it, they literally just cut out most of their side. Growing up I didn’t pay it any mind but once I became a teenager I was like “Wait, why didn’t they show us more of the squad that was having their stuff jacked?” Then I looked into it including the original trailer - we didn’t see some scenes they even included in the trailer.
@@MasochisticMaiden I also had never realized that before, but they are the ones having their stuff jacked and they won in the end, they should be the protagonists, and even tho the story of the movie is interesting, is messed up that they made the Clovers pretty much just side characters.. what a bright time the 2000's..

I was a senior in HS when this movie came out lol. FYI, the Mickey song at the end is perfect because in the original music video by Toni Basil, she performed that song in a Cheerleader's outfit and had real cheerleaders perform with her. Apparently she always wanted to be one but never got the chance. This movie I think was Gabrielle Union's break out performance, but I am not 100% sure.

Toni Basil was a cheerleader. Head cheerleader for Las Vegas High School, go wildcats! Lol. But the cheerleader uniform that she wore in the videos for Mickey (well I’m not 100% about the band version) was a redesigned version of the one she wore in high school.
I have to say, I like that you actually seem to enjoy the movies you react to. I hate watching commentaries where they just pick it to pieces

Don't be blaming Antonio for off beat dancing lol. I think you'd really like Stick It. It's a gymnastics movie I loved when I was younger. Still holds up as far as I'm concerned. Funny, sarcastic, and athletic as all hell. Definitely gives you a respect for gymnasts

@@BillyBinges I second this Billy. Some other reactors, their movie selection is hit or miss but every single movie you have is something I loved growing up! Even ones that were not my favourite, I still enjoy it because of your commentary. You're always on point with that :) - On a side note I forgot to suggest 'Get Over It' (2001) it also has Kirsten Dunst...it is HILARIOUS...similar vibe to this movie #Bingers
I laughed when you said you wanted to flip. I used to be a gymnast and a cheerleader and when I joined the Army I used to tumble when the guys would be throwing a football around and everyone (especially the Drills) would just stop and stare.
My husband was in our OSUT and he will bring it up every few years and just laugh; he was a Drill later and said he wished someone would do something original to ease the boredom.
Billy looks a lot like my college sweetheart he had a similar path: gymnastics, army then self employed. He always randomly flipped if we were out somewhere
These commentaries bring me so much joy. Every time I hear Billy laugh I can't help but join in.

I could never be a cheerleader or a dancer but I admire how skilled they are and how hard they work
Fun fact: the 3 girls that were with Gabrielle Union as the cheerleaders were actually a music group named Blaque, and after the end credits when it was on VHS they had their music video *As If* at the end because it was the song used in the movie

This came out when I was 22. And Eliza Dushku was one of the influencing factors in realizing how really gay I was.

My biggest second hand embarrassment from this franchise was the 3rd one when they got little petite Hayden crumping 😓
I was a cheerleader before I stopped when I reached high school but then I became friends with a couple cheerleaders in freshman year who would bring me to their competitions and bring a friend to practice days until we graduated. The bring it on movies feel nostalgic for me now that I lost contact with those friends. We used to watch them all the time in high school and we would just tumble and cartwheel afterwards for hours.

You are seriously the best. And this brought back so many memories and feelings and just …yeah, nostalgia TO THE MAX. I saw the movie with a few friends at the start of our junior year (I thought it was the end but I just checked the theater release date), and we all continued to enjoy its music for months. Like you said - a classic!

Yess!!! I was definitely one of the people who requested this video! I first watched this when I was eight with my sister who was 14 at the time. We both wanted to be cheerleaders after watching this movie, and my sis actually ended up cheering in high school. Favorite movie to this day!
