I wonder if child trafficking is really any better if you are taken into a life of celibacy and meditation.
In my opinion the Jedi's fundamental flaw is that they fear the dark side and attempt to eradicate it; rather than viewing the force as 1 whole and truly finding balance of emotion and all aspects of the force. It's like thinking anger is a singularly negative emotion. If you're angry about some injustice and you use that anger to enact solutions, then you have used anger as a gift. It matters how you use anger, but pretending we can suppress anger or any other emotion is a fools errand.
Exactly!!
Facts!
makes you wonder if Luke when he became the next grandmaster Jedi taught his students to accept the darkness within them? and to carry it with them unitl the day they die.
@@HotraiderI doubt that, he didn't have the experience to decide the jedi had done things wrong, he would have tried his best to uphold the ideas of the order as they were, that's why Ben was an easy target for Snoke/Palpatine, and why Luke didn't have the wisdom to handle his vision.
Rey on the other hand might just be able to do that, I'm jot a huge fan of the end of the OT, I feel like they once again ended with the implication of the status quo being restored, with the jedi texts being saved and Rey adopting the Skywalker name. But her own lived experience with the dark side and her connection to the sith, along with her having risen above the darkness, I think she has the perspective necessary to teach young jedi that they possess both light and dark, and that inner balance is important.
The thing is they started from a normal, understandable place. Feel your anger, but let it pass, and then act and make decisions from a more rational perspective
The problem is over time, they moved away from that and gradually became more like u described. It went from "anger can be a path to the dark side, so control it and let it pass" to "if u feel anger you're probably gonna turn" so everyone pretends to never feel emotions, and then they ignore those emotions, and gut feelings, which, like u said, is the problem
If Master Roe didn’t recall Sol back to the Temple, they could’ve gotten to the Wookie sooner

Alan, I don’t know if this is a Star Wars channel or a psychology channel but I am enjoying the deep dive analysis you’ve been doing. Thank you.
My dawg droppin' some morning breakfast goodies.
What?
One thing I find funny is that her name Vernestra sounds like a cholesterol medication. "I talked to my doctor and he prescribed Vernestra."
Lol, or vaginal yeast cream, perhaps. Jedi females gotta stay healthy and uninfected out on all those long, lonely missions.
Been on it for ten years. It's some good $hit, I'll tell you that!
I don't think Vernestra is corrupt and I don't think she knows what really happened on Brendok. I do think she's going to make the same mistake Master Farfalla made by being too impatient and rash, when he learned Darth Bane was still around he tried and go to destroy the Sith immediately instead of warning the Jedi Council of the threat, which ended poorly. Because one aspect of Vernestra's character from the books that seems consistent during the Show when she's 100 years older is that she tends to not ask for the Council's permission when she thinks something needs to be done, she goes and does it and then debriefs the Council afterwards...only this time sadly I don't think she'll get the chance to make that debrief.
Yeah I have a feeling she will kill Qimir only for Tenebrous to jump out and one shot her or something
Always wild how people who whine about canon seems to ignore how in the old one Jedi did discover the sith time to time just the sith were good at making sure things get covered quick or like your situation he made a big error
@@JustCallMeJames That's possible, we haven't encountered David Harewood's character yet.

Alan, I wanted to take a second to be sincere. While I enjoy Star Wars, I feel I enjoy your take on it more. I tend to just look just under the surface but not a deep dive. To stay immersed in the story. I like coming here after viewing various things myself to get a thoughtful breakdown from possibly a certain point of view. Good selection of content, pleasant voice, deep thoughts, interesting analyses, thanks for what You do
Well said! 👏🏻

Finally, a person with a brain and empathy. Thank you Generation Tech.
I was fascinated when, in ep 4, a bit of the old Vern slipped out after the meeting. When she referenced “Mae” as a “poor girl.” The genuine compassion and concern, as well as frustration with Sol… I sat up and pointed, yelling, “There she is!” (To which was my spouse-not a big SW fan, but who watches the shows with me and generally enjoys them-was like “Whaaaaa…???”)
Best Star Wars channel.
Bro, that comment about having a brush with death w/o loved ones... it hit home... I've had a couple close calls (no exaggeration). 1st one was from my single 20's and it's just one of my "wild adventure" stories. 2nd incident in my late 30's with a SO that I'm planning on preposing to within the next month. Seeing her face the day I came home from the hospital broke something in me (in a good way). I realized that I'm happy with my life and want to fight to keep it as long as I can. The world/life still has so much to offer.
I've read all the High Republic materials so far (well, I'm about 80% through the current book, so almost), and I'm not surprised at Vernestra's character in the Acolyte. For one thing, she's 100 years older and we don't know what her life has been like in the decades between the books/comics and the series. And another thing, she's always walked a line between outlier and by-the-book, and some of those facets are at the forefront in different situations. She's never been the warmest character out there. During the conflict with the Nihil, there was at least one traitor in the Senate (it's implied that there are more but we don't yet know who they are), so it's not surprising that she doesn't want Jedi business shared with the Senate.

The fact that people are shocked that a covenant made up of entirely women has lesbians within it is so funny to me.
My bold prediction, the Jedi Council covered the case up with their reason that Qimir is just an impostor, a want to be a sith, but actually that was his plan all along. Qimir wants to be a fake Sith because it gives an opening for the real Sith to make that plan.🤔🤔🤔
Thank you for not jumping on the outrage train. Thankfully we still have an empathetic and thoughtful voice to discuss Star Wars.
You know what they say “hating pays the bills”
The Jedi in the High Republic are basically Vought from The Boys. It doesn’t matter what crimes the Jedi may commit, it only matters if it affects their image. The reputation of The Order is more important at the Force at times where Jedi can do no bad and are essentially superheroes. Even Anakin in TPM believed Jedi were unkillable superheroes that exist to fight all the wrongs, but the older he became the more he realized it wasn’t as cracked up as what he used to believe.
I would argue that it’s a generation raised on the generic slop of Marvel superhero films that now see everything through the eyes of a corporate superhero Iron Man lens rather than from the viewpoint of an independent and sovereign citizen?
Too many now see the world through politics of identity and corporate mandated DEI and ESG requirements that have replaced a normal persons common sense with their corporate hive mind.
This is why a corporate monster like Disney with monster serving employees like Leslye Headland write their version of the Jedi Order as being Vought like ‘bad guys’ full of the same nasty corporate type shenanigans that they themselves understand all too well?
You write what you know and Leslye Headland unfortunately knew a certain Boss Weinstein and thus projects THAT onto the Jedi Order while trying to find excuses for the lesser evils of Mae and Osha?
She wants to blame the corporate monster while excusing her part in it and thus the morally ambiguous tone is set?😅
@@PaulusAlone People been idiots way before Marvel. Blame their upbringing. Blame their individual personalities. But to blame an entertainment property is weird.
I think that's a bit too harsh. The Jedi are still good people, albeit flawed. I suspect if they learnt whatever really happened on Brendok then they wouldn't have taken kindly to it at all and would've made the four Jedi answer for it.
@@Mr-Rinn But isn't that the key to this, if you look hard at it? Such a scandal getting out, even as far as the Jedi Council, would be seen as a "black eye on the Jedi Order". There's an old adage, "Two men can only keep a secret if one of them is dead." As it stands, Sol is the ONLY Jedi left who knows what happened "that night". The other three have been permanently silenced.
There is still a lot to be discovered in this series, and only 3 episodes left to learn them.
The funny thing about the whole "corporate monster", is that George Lucas himself went from "independent film maker" to "corporate overlord" in just a few years. "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain". He even stated so in one of the OT documentaries (about not trusting corporations to becoming one himself).
Andor is a goddamn masterpiece.
The Jedi are the Good Guys, so long as they mindfully follow the Will of the Force.
In the real world this corresponds to the Bodhisattva's Path:
In Mahāyāna Buddhism, a bodhisattva refers to anyone who has generated 'bodhicitta,' a spontaneous wish and compassionate mind to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. Mahayana bodhisattvas are spiritually heroic persons that work to attain awakening and are driven by a great compassion.
I’ve thought the same thing since the weird conversation with Sol.
The coruscant background looks awesome that must have taken a while to make (can I have one please)
What do you mean make? He bought a high ride apartment on corusaunt

Alan keeps changing his background. Makes me think all that Ewok hunting is catching up to him. Now their trying to hunt Alan for his meat.
As someone who has PTSD from my own military service, I can't thank you enough for the times that you genuinely show concern for that issue!
2:33 the 3rd episode had one of the most overlooked lines:
"What will the Jedi do when they find out how you created [the twins]"
I don't think this was meant to mean that the witches did it themselves.
This I think was meant to align to canon when Palpatine told Anakin that "only one has achieved that power" - PLAGUEIS.
the witches were in cahoots with the Sith / Plagueis at this time, and he helped them create the twins, for his own purposes.
My take is the opposite. Mother Aniseya manipulated the force with dark side Magick to create the twins. Qimir is not the master, but an apprentice (or secret apprentice) of tenebrous that proceeds plagueis and this is where the sith got the idea of manipulating the force to create/preserve life
@@KMoney1219 I think that's also plausible! But I think the witches somehow are associated with Plagueis figuring out how to create life, seems to be what they're implying with this show! Hope you're right, either way, I like the idea
honestly i wouldnt' be surprised if they retconned plagues into being this lady or something.

Allan, I'm glad you mentioned Rwoh. I saw the same thing happen with Ahsoka. So many talked about how this is NOT her. It was her. She got old.
Endlessly, thank you for continuing actual criticism on this series
You said it near the end, the true reason the Jedi fell, they pledged themselves to Republic and to Democracy. They don’t listen to the will of the force as they did before Revan’s time. Now they worry about politics and not the will of the force. I believe it’s Legends now but somewhere it’s mentioned that no decision was ever made by the council unless all members agreed after mediating together and deciphering the force’s will. They forgot “The force is my ally.” And that’s why they fell.
I started watching your videos cause I saw a star wars channel, but the reason I come back, Alan, is for your invaluable knowledge of lore, passion, and positive spin on things. This one really hit home, man. Good talk. Thanks, Alan.
Thank you for bringing depth and nuance to these Star Wars fandom and project discussions.
Great message today. Thank you.
This is the kind of content I love on this channel not just star wars but good life advice
It's funny. When young Vernestra was struggling with her choice of whip, I found it completely ludicrous, the idea that the shape of one's magic light thingy might tempt one into the Dark Side. Well, maybe she was in fact struggling with some stuff.
Then again, maybe what this really shows is that recruiting children into cults as child soldiers is not the best idea. Don't let monks raise your kids, folks. Monks are very good at ale. Monks are very good at meditating. Monks are very good at Aristotelian logic. But monks are dubious childminders at best. Vernestra Rwoh shouldn't have been anywhere near a battlefield at the age when her career as a professional killer of evil things began.
And they're good at making chartreuse 👍
The biggest problem with this though, is that each force user is essentially a walking bomb; If the Jedi don't train them, someone else will, and who knows what would happen?
@@vikunthnanda7539 The Jedi hunt down those who would train them, and remove the children.
@@phillipschuman4307 The Jedi don't hunt down all Force-Sensitive Children. Nightsisters, for instance, are not taken but allowed to stay. Wookies, and the Guardians of the Whills, are also allowed to stay. And as I said earlier, these children are walking bombs, you want something in the light side that is training them.
I like that new set, and your dismissal of the toxic fandom was awesome. Abeloth is the scariest horror in Star Wars for me. I'm not throwing shade at your picks for scariest horror, I also have not read all the EU/Legends novels. There are probably thousands at this point. I really wish Ben Skywalker was a thing and Mara Jade was a thing.
Nah you’re right abeloth is definitely up there
Well here is the issue.
its not the toxic side of the fandom that hates the acolyte. Generation tech is basically filling in blanks that the creations of the show themselves would never fill. he's projecting onto it.

Well done Allen. ❤ your content has been really great in particular lately
Always glad when Allen calls out the other channels for just being haters. I mean in my recommendations right now I see a video titled "IT'S OVER! Disney CANCELS Woke Rey Movie After Katheen Kennedy Meltdown." I mean the very fact they threw "woke" in there shows they have a heavy bias. Any Channel bandying words like that around I block. Sometimes I look at their other videos to see if this is just a one off or their style to just whine and complain. I mean calling it "woke" would be like me accusing every channel that uses words like that of being "misogamist, woman hating incels." There is more complexity than that.
I also see a lot of channels bringing up statements or comments from the cast/writers and using it to some how justify it’s a bad show. At the stage there not review the show but just their views. Too many just jump on the mindless bandwagon,
Dude i swear those videos are everywhere and the thumbnails they use are the most childish and stupid images that any adult could make
Didn't call out one, because he's a pussy, and he's also full of shit... Name one. The high subscription channels he's jealous of didn't complain about leabians, they called out the lore changing. It has nothing to do with lesbianism, but procreation as we understand it in lore.

Their agreement to become galactic peacekeepers was probably the biggest mistake while the Republic's was not having any apparent check to the Jedi's authority. It mirrors history and it's something that shaped so many cultures throughout the galaxy.

Man, I love this channel so much!
I don’t think that Vernestra is inherently evil, but I do think she’s a bureaucrat and is very interested in keeping the Jedi in an elevated, privileged role in the republic. She’s chaotic good. Which means that she’s going to be fine breaking some rules, and sweeping some facts under the rug for “the greater good”. Which at the end of this series, her real crime will be hiding any idea of a Sith return so the status quo can continue. However - her knowing the truth will likely move the Jedi into a more conservative approach to the force leading them to the dogmatic nonsense that culminates in their downfall in episode 3.
The Jedi really aren't acting like monks because if they were then they would be guided by the force and not politics. We're all heroes in our own story and compared to most I've had a fortunate life but there are highs and lows along the way. During my fifties I experienced trauma that had me thinking about killing another human being and I hated it . To put it simply I could choose the dark side or resist it and when your enemy has no empathy and tries to destroy what you love/value it's difficult to remain true to your values.
I love the background Allen!
Generation Tech is really underrated

Awesome background Alan, your thoughts bring up a few questions I'd been asking myself. Hope you are well bro, thank you so much.
I mean this isn’t something Disney made up, look at things like the Attack of the Clones and clone wars tv show when it was still Lucas. The Jedi were so bad at their own internal checks and balances they didn’t even know they were banking rolling the building of any army. The Jedi straight up, didn’t know they were building an army.Any order that in effective is bound to screw up way worse.

I don't think the gun comparison tracks, but otherwise I really like a number of parts of your take here. I'm really curious and apprehensive about what Vernestra Rwoh's character arc is going to be for the reasons you mention. Is she just slowly captured by institutional interests or is there a particular trauma that puts her over the edge, because she's definitely not there yet in what we've seen from the High Republic. I'm not sure she's following exactly the track you see, but it kind of hits close to home for me being so isolated in this horrifying world.
