Very nice looking old Mack restoration. Brings back many good memories. I use to own a 1922 Mack AC Bulldog that had started life as a New York Firetruck. Instead of a 4 cylinder engine, mine had a straight six cylinder engine in it along with tandem wheels on the back. My uncle bought the truck to use as a parade truck to promote our family owned lumber company, which is no longer in business. When my uncle passed away, it was left to my father, but when he passed away, the truck was left to me. We did get the truck running and I got to drive it around when I was 14 years old, but I did not have the money or resources needed to restore the truck properly so I donated it to the Circus Museum in Sarasota, Florida back in the early 1980's. Their museum found the old timers that had built the truck originally at the Mack factory and they did a fantastic restoration on the truck. It was heartbreaking for me giving up that old Mack truck, but I would rather see it in a museum fully restored than rotting away in a field with no money to restore it properly.
I remember seeing these in a "concrete mixer" configuration in the late 50's in Queens NY, you could hear them coming " the chain drives "were humming away !
Italians - masters of machinery since ancient times. Their American descendants keep the legacy alive. RESPECT!!!
A friend of mine had a chain drive Mack just like this truck with a 5th wheel on the back.No electric start. You had to crank that baby and let me tell you when she wanted to start it wasn't to bad but when she didn't you could crank and crank that hand crank until you were to wore out to crank anymore.
What i would give to go back and witness how it was back then for these time machines!
what a magnificent lady she is! well done on the restoration ...good to see her on her feet and on the road.
I love these old trucks. Great restoration job!
BEAUTIFUL TRUCK GREAT RESTO JOB A-1
I remember as a kid trucks like these delivering coal to the apartment buildings in chicago. I specifically remember they were red and had chain drive.
Great interview especially on tje radio. That was special. Thank you for sharing.
Wow this is so so beautiful what a purist restoration I'm in awe, I would feel like a million bucks just getting a ride in this beautiful piece of history!!
Beautiful Truck! Excellent job with the restoration!
What a beast!! Old cars and trucks are so cool!
This was a very pleasant video. The truck was awesome, and everyone involved had great attitudes.
Really NEAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, thanks so much for taking it out to shows so people can see it, !!!!!!!!!!!
That is one beautiful Mack.
I spent my childhood in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. Being a mining state, Cornish miners came to Real del Monte; a mountain village near Pachuca, there they introduced soccer to the region as mining developed. An American school was established for the English employees children….I attended there for a four years. During my stay in Pachuca, 1950 to 1958, I watched these green dump Mack trucks on my street….huge machines, noisy too. The chain drive fascinated me. I believe the mining industry got taken over by American entities, hence the acquisition of the Mack trucks after the end of WWI. Enjoyed your video. You did a super job restoring it. Regards, Les
Awesome video!!! Love the trucks. You can tell a lot of work went into them. Everything looks great!!! Nice job!!! No one really realizes how much work goes one of those trucks until they actually do one.
Very cool old rig. I wonder how steering the old girl feels with 10K in the bed. Great restoration, and great video. I ran into it by accident, but y'all kept me watching until the end.
"Arm Strong" Steering.
That is so cool I can't believe how quiet it is
Awesome trucks and video no sound at first but hang in there it gets awesome folks.
lovely truck. thanks for preserving a bit of history.
Thank you young man for such a great and complete explanation. Your explanation made me understand that great old MACK and it’s working ability in different situations. Thanks again!!! JP
She is a keeper!
I remember in the late 50s early 60s trucks like that chain drive delivering coal to the apartment buildings. Forget what company but they were red.
Beautiful! I remember an old collier truck like this when I was young....
Beautiful truck
WOW!!! Great video, great trucks and great interview !!! Love the CB interview, very unique. We want more :)
My Dad was 20 yrs old in 1929, he drove chain drive dump truck Mack's, he said the darn thing would do a wheel stand when dumping large granite stones that would hang up at the tailgate, hauled a lot of large stones for the breakers at the beaches in Massachusetts,,,
Excellent video. Beautiful truck.
GREAT video! Nicely laid-out, kept me interested. BigRig Videos nice work and I think I have a crush on the guy doing the narrative. :D
LOL, thanks Sherry. Glad your enjoying the videos!
Awesome Mack!
Bad ass truck
I would love to just go for a drive in that truck
Beautiful!!!
Its just beautifull
THATS.....AWESOME...
I thought pumps create flow not pressure, and the resistance to flow creates pressure, as in the dump box raising. Great video btw!!👌
Honda used this same idea in their first rear wheel drive sports car, the S600.
So thats what a chain drive is
I have been under the impression that chain drive was the main difference between AC and shaft drive AK Macks.
love it,,,nice video
nothing against Peterbuilt but you should have used a Mack to haul that classic
+kbtruck65 Blair My thoughts exactly!
Nah he wanted to make sure it got where it was going
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Good one! never noticed - Duh!
Last time I saw a chain drive dump truck for real was 1958. As I recall, it had solid rubber tires. I also remember road trains hauling dirt and gravel. Don't know/remember what did the towing.
kbtruck65 Blair , thank you
Beautiful old Mack, and shes up and on her feet again where she should be and not static in a museum (although I like those too).
A gentleman I work with had a 1927 AC Mack that worked in Pennsylvania until 1964 (I sat in that truck about 25 years ago at our State Fair) - it is now in our State transportation museum and still runs. Cant help but admire the old iron , thanks for posting!
Very nice job on the video as well.
Salute from Alaska and Keep'em Rolling!
Sweet ride
very cool vid Chris!
peace of history
Thanks for sharing, I will try to build a wood toy out of this video.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! Im so glad I subbed!!
You know, your comment makes doing this video so worth while. I knew it was not going to be a super popular video. But somewhere, someone would appreciate it. Thanks!
Very cool !!!
Great truck. What's the torque rating on that beast?
Well 77 HP at 1800 RPM translates to 225 ft. lbs. torque. Torque would be higher at lower RPM.
cool truck cool video cheers 😎👍
The only problem with chain drive is: the strenght of the drive line is those link pins and their relatively small diameter.
This thing is built to survive a nuclear blast, and then some!!!
Trucks like these should go back to business, it would save the companies lots of resources for production
thts beautaful
como me gusta ver estos camiones ,que pena que en mi pais no queda uno ni para remedio! Hasta los años 80todavia se veia alguno ya no
So cool,,what is it worth??
How many ton load did it carry when new?
No seat belts, no airbags, no power steering, or power brakes. A/C during the winter months, heater at summer. This is a MAN's truck,,, sorry all you feminist.
I bet Jay Leno doesn't have one of these in his garage.
Any show schedule for thissummer of 2017?
😍
no shaft?
Drive shaft is between the clutch and the tranny.
ROGERS NEW TRUCK
The Russians can EMP the he'll out of us, this old truck will be running, and keeping Americans fed!
Those can't be original tires.
Its a bit of a shme tho being hauled by the trailer instead of driving it by its own power doing what it was meant to like it got handicapped or something.
I'm surprised the chains aren't tighter. They look like they would fall off pretty easy.
my dad always loved this mack trucks from the 20s
Lovely isn't a word I would normally use to describe a dump truck, but this old truck is actually lovely the way it looks and moves.
Even with the new wheels it looks good.
The CB Conversation was a nice touch.
Wowwwwwww👌
Wow! this is cool! My Granfather used to talk about driving these trucks! thank you! I finally get to see one run and move. Its awesome!
You guys need to do more rolling cb interviews
10-4! Only one guy runs this joint. I do all the shooting, editing, and Facebook posting. Don't worry there is some good stuff in store! You are a Facebook fan aren't you?!
I believe so, better make sure ASAP. Can't wait to see whats in store but dude you have a very confident interview voice.
simranjit pooni Thank ya!
The driver's eggs probably melted in the summer. Radiator in front of the cab. Very clever.😆😆😆
How interesting! Great interviews. Loved hearing about all the old Mack's little quirks. My dad will love to see this.
Cool, "Armstrong" steering for sure, especially when they had solid rubber tires.
the biggest crime here is you guys got a Peterbilt tractor trailer to pull the ole Mack and not a Mack tractor trailer...the inhumanity. I do love that he used a soft shackle around the axle instead of the chain though
Wow back then its almost everything of nowdays haulers
how did i end up here trying to find a video of straykids?????????
You should restore a Superliner to haul the '29 to the shows with.
I loved that new vs old video scene, just shows how far we have come technology wise especially in the Heavy Truck Diesel world!
Yes, you are right. Lots of progress.
Awsome truck
Ha, I have one!
This is a great watch.
How can this small dumptruck be oversize load when on the trailer?
Nice job. The Mack Brothers would be proud.
This is a MARVEL
Not a bad video until there was talk about road work, and who gives a "F" ,but then a yellow truck? Really. Nice truck in the beginning, keep it at that. I feel Bad that Mack has to be towed around by that flaming yellow thing.
At least he didn't use a curb sniffer.
This video is discovery channel television quality, and Ohta be on TV!
Thanks, glad you think it's worthy
+BigRig Videos The truck of course is worth the price of admission, it is just out of this world and what a great subject to film. But the quality of the photography and the camera angles and the story are just outstanding. I'm not an expert on trucks, but I do watch a lot of TV, and I know whats professional. My friend is coming to visit me from the Florida Keys, and he has a 1960 Mack dump, he will be all over this.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Is this your first video that you have seen on this channel? Thanks for wanting to share this. Does your friend belong to any antique clubs?
+BigRig Videos My friend attends truck shows all over the eastern United States driving his Harley Road King and I am sure he has attended the Leesburg show that you mentioned in the video several times. I wanted to mention, and I am not sure the man is still alive, the videos featuring Don Robertson from Jerome, AZ. I meant to look through all your videos to see if you had ever interviewed him, one of my favorites is '47 international KB12, it kind of makes you proud to be an American. He would be a great subject for your series. And I am sure you get recommendations from people all the time.
+BigRig Videos yes this is the first video I have seen on this channel, my friend has a working ( hauls fill dirt) 1960 all original B61 Mack dump, Recently drove his bike from the Florida Keys to northern Alaska and back, a 15,000 mile round-trip, but he does not have a cell phone and he does not have a computer, so when he visits me, he wants to look at Mack videos. And I know he will love your presentation. In fact I don't think either of us will have ever seen anything like it.
