Great comparison! If it is a nice sunny day, grill with the charcoal in the open! If the weather is bad, grill with the gas on the covered patio! As I have both, gas and charcoal, I’ll let the weather decide which grill to use! However, no matter the weather, the beer has to be a nice cold IPA to go with the great burger! Cheers to you, my friends, and keep-on-grilling! 🍺🍔
Nice cold IPA to wash down a burger sounds about right to me. Cheers Bill!
watched this video late last night and couldn’t get the idea of some home made burgers out of my head all day at work. picked up a six pack on the way home too. keep producing great content - obviously people all around the world are watching - I’m in Melbourne Australia.
Cheers Carl! Thanks for watching in Oz.
Thanks for a great video. Very informative. Cheers!
Right on Dwayne.
Awesome comparison! Love my Q and Kettle!
Thank you Tom. Can't really go wrong with either of these Webers.
Hello sir. I must say you look refreshed already. I am also glad that you keep on grilling on a Q which is unique for many of us, the city grillers 🇬🇷. After all, I had never seen before, grill cooking on a fire escape 👏.
Thank you sir! It's nice to escape the city every now and then for sure.
My kettle is for the weekend, My spirit 3 burner is for the weekdays. Great vid, now I want a burger!!
Gas on the weekdays. Charcoal on the weekends. I agree completely.
This guy is fun to watch, I like his style of cooking....I agree with the charcoal burger
Thanks for these videos. I really miss my charcoal grill I used in the past. Unfortunately now I live in an apartment complex which doesn’t allow gas nor charcoal grills. I would say the charcoal grill wins because of the charcoal flavor which is difficult to reproduce in gas grills. This summer, due to restrictions, I decided to go electric and I bought a Weber Q1400, which surprisingly does a great job; especially with hickory wood chips. Those cast iron grates are fantastic. Looking forward to your videos!!
No grilling allowed in my apartment complex either. I feel your pain. I haven't tried the electric Q but glad to hear it's working for you. Cheers Ayman!
I miss your Weber gas grill! Glad to see it again.
I'll be making more Q vids for sure. Thanks for watching Steve.
Great vid man. What burger press do you use ???
Spot on mate! I have the same BBQ’s and must say charcoal I like slightly more but both still cook well 🇬🇧
Cheers Stuart! Thanks again for watching in the UK.
Great grilling video. Love seeing the comparisons. Have the Q and a Performer. Love both grills but prefer the charcoal for the smoky flavor. Keep on Grilling"!!!
Agree completely. Thanks for watching Papa Jack.
That mastertouch looks beautiful! Cool shirt too 👍
Thanks Fernando. Cheers!
I’ve owned nothing but charcoal grills until I bought my Q. IMO charcoal will always have at the least a slight advantage over gas but it sure has been nice having grilled meals in under 20 minutes. Throw a smoke packet in the Q for the burgers and the results will be even closer . Tnx 4 the video 😎✌🏻
Right on! Thanks for watching Niko.
Thats what I was thinking, friday night I’m grilling burgers on my Q and will let you now
@@josecarlosarosemena8809 So, what's the verdict?
Adnan Sidani yes results are really close, of course I preferred the charcaol ones over the gas, but given that from my balcony light up a charcoal grill is a huge no, doing that gives pretty good results
I did the same "contest" once.... Couldn't notice any difference but that slightly taste yo charcoal ( mezquite in my case)... But I guess that the main difference is that the Q is very simple to start a fire.... Meanwhile the charcoal grill has a whole ritual that involves cleaning, dirty hands, beer, heat sun, beer, wait until charcoal is ready, beer, ...... So my final conclusion was..: Burgers taste the same in both... But not the beers..
Great to see you again!
Lol! Thanks Edgar. You know, I sometimes use a beer as my timer to know when to flip a steak. It's pretty accurate. Cheers!
As much as I love my Weber Q and the food it cooks, it cannot compete with my charcoal grills. The natural lump charcoal I use adds a nice smokiness to the flavour that the gas grill just cannot meet. Having said that I would not part with either my Weber Q nor my charcoal grill!! I agree the difference is not huge but is there.
Yeah, it was raining the other day, I was tired and just didn't feel like fussing with charcoal. There's no doubt a place for gas. It's just very convenient.
As Harry Soo would say, it’s not the pit, but the pit master. Both burgers looked great!
Thanks ScubaDude!
Gas Grill is simple. One minute, and you can cook. You can have it in your balcony. But the Charcoal Grill - ofc the food will taste better (cause it has smoke), but it requires preparation time, you can only use it outside, and you need a lot of charcoal.
Right on Mekc. I actually use both all of the time.
Good vid. I could go either way on this won. Would probably be a tie if you had used a foil pack with some wood chips in the "Q" but I love my kettle. Looking forward to your next vid.
Foil packet in the next comparison vid for sure.
@@GallaghersGrub I just saw that I typed "won " instead of "one ". That's embarrassing. 🙄
@@victorbenner539 I said "induce" instead of "infuse" in the video. It happens. Cheers dude!
I've done this with a smoker box using the traeger charcoal flavor pellets and I couldn't tell the difference at all!
I'll make my next comparison vid with wood chips on both grills. Cheers!
There's always something to say about the cast iron grate on the q I use mine alot for burgers it's definitely faster
They leave excellent grill marks too!
Yeah cast iron is great grilling. I got the cast iron insert for the Weber Kettle and it is pretty good but I ended up getting a full cast iron grate set and now they're all I want to use.
I’ve had a Weber kettle for over 10 years and a Weber Q1200 for the last 4 yrs. Damned if I know which taste I prefer, but the Q is ever so convenient and is the most relaxed cooking I’ve ever done. The cooking times supplied are spot on, so it’s very easy to cook different meats. You just work out what is going to take longest and add the shorter cooking time items at the appropriate moment so it all finishes together. Simples! The Q is one of the best things I have ever bought...
I like my Q too. Enough to make 70 videos with it. Cheers Les!
I think it all depends on the type of day if you have time for the charcoal then do charcoal , if you want a quick burger heat up the Weber q. But I still love both flavors.
Agree. The convenience of a gas grill makes having one pretty much mandatory.
Nice comparison :)
Thanks Lasse. Cheers brotha!
I'm thinking that if you got a bit of charcoal briquettes and pled it in a foil packet.lwould that work to impart charcoal flavor in the Weber electric grill?
Nice vid man, keep um coming....but I’d have to said the charcoal is 6% better😜
I'm thinking that for meat that cooks in under 10 minutes, the taste difference isn't much worth the time difference and effort of setting up a charcoal grill. For meat that takes longer than 10 minutes...definitely charcoal. For vegetables, charcoal is always a good idea. Cheers Factor!
Charcoal was king. The recent Qs however are my new Champion. I got a 1200 and quickly got a 2200.. The new Qs are the most efficient way to make hot and perfectly seared food. So, how to beat the charcoal burner at it's own game? I stumbled on the answer. Smoke chips in a cast iron smoke box. Add the city escape griller's recipes and suddenly you are a competent apprentice to the best celebrity bbq chef in the world!
Wood chips on the Q is a must. I may need to pick up a 2200 myself. Thanks so much for the kind words Duckie. Really appreciate the support.
Please , Can you post what temperature you are using with the WEBER Q ? thx for your videos
I cooked the burger on the Q at Med-High heat.
I tried to look though the comment section for the same comment and didn't see it, but, are you really using ground beef? I know most folks do, but a really good burger must be made using ground chuck....your thoughts Sir?
I believe these burgers were ground chuck. 80/20.
I still wonder how the burgers would compare it you added the pecan wood chips to the Weber-Q, also.
It's a good point and in my next comparison vid, I will fire up the Q with some chips.
Always like charcoal but the Q is first for quick and easy Q wins for me!
Convenience makes gas grills perfect for weekday grilling. Cheers Kevin!
Proud you came to the charcoal side
I lived in Atlanta for a number of years and grilled on a kettle every weekend. Cheers Rando!
@@GallaghersGrub That's my boy!!!!!!!!
Great video! I agree, charcoal burgers are a little better, but not really night & day. And I always ask, are they so much better that it's worth using up charcoal for something that's only going to be on the grill for under 10 minutes, and is it worth the extra time it takes to get a chimney starter going? Most of the time it's not worth it to me & I go with the Q, but that's a question each griller must answer for themselves, no?
Ah, the many decisions one must make in life.
Important decision, of course.
No Pecan chips in the Weber Q. Could have been the difference?
I'll try wood chips on the Q in the next test.
@@GallaghersGrub I call for a redo. The pecan chips would make a difference. Have both a Q and a kettle. Love both. On your kettle you have the grill for a vortex. Have you tried it yet?
Since the difference seems to be less than 10% , adding chips of any kind in the Q would probably help. A correctly toasted bun seems to hold some charcoal flavor as well. Thanks for the great job on these vids!
The secret to getting that extra 5% from the Weber Q is to make a smoke pouch with charcoal in it. Problem solved. Growing up as kids, we always had that charcoal grill goodness, and gas grills while cleaner, easier, and less expensive to use, just didn't have the tiny bit of smoke flavor that we missed. Until I started smoking charcoal. Bang! Problem solved, and a bag of charcoal lasts several years instead of a few weeks or months. Give it a shot, and see what you think!
A smoke pouch like in this video I made 4 years ago:
ruclips.net/video/yvP-MEgj1Dc/видео.html
@@GallaghersGrub yes, exactly like that! A couple of charcoal brickets in there and a couple holes in the pouch, and you get the charcoal flavor from a gas grill!
Go with hickory chips next time.
Will do.
Wood chips were kind of an unfair advantage.
In my next comparison I'll use chips on the Q too.
But, but, but... You smoked the kettle meat. Surely that added a little extra flavor? I'm no expert mind you.
You forgot to show us the finished meat 🍖
You can’t go wrong with hamburgers buddy...
No sir, you cannot. Cheers Eddie!
5% better, maybe 10%? Just say 7.5% to be absolutely fair. LOL.
Next time, use lump charcoal.
I might. That said, I have no problem with Kingsford brickets whatsoever.
Like the video hate the sounds
Taste wise
Lump vs Gas = Lump
Anyone can Cheat and make a charcoal grill better, I always use a little wood chips on my Weber-Q. You made the charcoal have better with wood chips. Not Fair. Do again with a foil pack and wood chips on BOTH!
My theory is that charcoal doesn't make a big difference with meat cooked in 5 minutes or less. But it probably makes a difference in the bun and small vegetables (like slices of zucchini) which may soak up some of that smoke in a shorter amount of time.
@@GallaghersGrub The other thing I think I notice is that by using the foil pack everytime the inside of the grill "Keeps" the smoky flavors. As it heats you smell it even before the smoke starts from the pack. (Like seasoning a cast-iron) so makes the grill food taste even better.
Sorry. But this is not serious. You have to eat the burgers without knowing which one is gas and characoal grilled.
It's not necessary to have a blind taste test here. The difference is apparent.
@@GallaghersGrub I also would prefer charcoal - so it´s okay. But the subjective attitude has got big influence on taste senses.
Cruel video, very cruel... #hungry
Lol! No ketchup needed.
Nice until the part when you licked your thumb and handled the burger before you gave it to the camera man. Did he like the spit flavor from your thumb?
Nice troll.
@@Icutmetal How is that trolling dickface? It was an observation and as I said he did a nice job until that point.
