Korone and the "Crappy Game Where the Hero is a Massive Scumbag" [Eng Sub/Hololive]

- Are you an upstanding person who has never disappointed your parents, your peers, or your friends? Whether you answered "yes" or "no", be prepared to have Korone constantly disappointed in you for 20+ minutes, as Korone casts YOU as the hero of this "crappy game".
I once again fried my brain translating this game, and I also apologize if the timing on the game translation feels off. I couldn't decide whether to time it to the game text, or to time it to when Korone reads the lines. Also, I hope the parts where she misreads kanji is relatively understandable. The parenthesis indicate what the word is supposed to be.
TL;DR Sorry

I live for every time Korone struggles to read a kanji
"Maybe I'm not alone."
I wonder if she can read Kogane’s name from the idol master gacha cause Haachama couldn’t XDDDD
Tokyo U graduate btw
i wonder how she looks up the kanji without knowing the pronunciation
I mean some of those kanji were so complex they practically became a square ⬛
What a great day. 20+ minutes of Korone clip.
Korone: struggles to read some Kanji
Its listener's fault.
she's a tokyo u graduate, how could she struggle, right?
Listener is such a scumbag that he purposedly put in weird kanjis so she couldn't read it!
The kanji is too easy, the tokyo u grad couldn't read it
FeelsBadMan it's our fault like always
@@ignis488 Korone said an overseas fan made it, so ironically they're more likely to have words as Kanji even if it's extremely rare for a native to have them in kanji.
Listener-san gets up to all those antics, yet the one thing that makes Korone mad is discovering he has a girlfriend.
"hehe, sucks to suck" is definitely entering my daily lexicon
Sucks to suck
Welcome to the suck
Embrace the suck
Words I literally live by.
@@SwolTako just remove the first line and you will be set for life
It's been in my lexicon. It's funny to see it here.
Ew.
"sucks to suck" was a phrase I used so much when I was big into csgo in like 2015-17
H-Hey, I'm not sure I like being called a scumb-
Korone: Let's have listener-san be on my lap
...Maybe I am a scumbag...
lmaoo thought the same thing
This (gender/race/sexuality here) speaks the truth
I can only imagine the insane amount of work going into translating this. Love the localizations so much. Also, I think it's a pretty nice touch that you waited for Korone to read the in-game words before making it appear on-screen. Thanks for the clip!
And thank you for the kind words! I feel like it can get kinda cluttered and confusing when there's both text translations and spoken translations on screen, so I'm glad you thought it worked!
@@JShayTranslations Maybe next time, you could put the translation text on the character’s text box.
@@grant6048 Personally I feel like it's better without doing so for those who might want to read it

The fact that it's probably the same guy, using the same default assets each time, gives his games a kind of comfy energy. Was really happy to see Korone do another of these.
kuso games are kind of a subculture the way that mario hacks are.
there's like 1000s of these
Is it not from like an RPG maker or something?
@@acapitala4936 it looks like it is made with RPG Maker, but idk which version.
@@milofranklin5386 It looks like RPG maker MV to me.
Can't wait to watch Korone play "The Girl Who Can't Read Kanji".

8:36 Yes, Korone. I really favor these short bladed weapons called dagg-- I mean w h i t e r a d i s h e s in battles.

- I want to sleep.
- You already had sleep.
- I've had one yes, but what about second sleep ?
Listener-san falls asleep three times during a Korone stream?
Typical...
"Alright, sleep for one second."

"Sucks to suck"
God I love translating Japanese. Yes, this is not the "literal" line, but it is EXACTLY the emotional intent. Context-based languages are fun.
Is that how we got "smell ya later" in Pokémon?
Thank you for blessing us with 20 minutes of translated Korone.
Korone: how the fck i read this?
Me if there's no translator: how the fck i know what she's saying!

I wonder if the people from Konosuba would appreciate Kazuma more if they saw this. "Wow... Kazuma is an asshole, but at least he's not Listener-kun."
Darkness, on the other hand, might fall in love.
Agreed. While he's a bumbling pervert, he has defeated several powerful bad guys, saved the town, even got really based and bombed a noble manor.
@@RoyalFusilier Darkness would have a crush on Listener-kun. Sadistic, psychopathic, lazy and treats you like shit? I can already see the hearts in her eyes.
Kinda wanna go and draw Korone with Nagatoro-like expression go "Oh wow, you're the worst, listener-senpai".
Do it!
100% do it and post the link here
Sasuga listener-san.
I love how Korone is like "thats awful...oh well, it's not me doing it".
That scumbag hero does not represent the listener-sans. We fully condemn this behavior since we only want to head pat and hug Korone while trying to save Za worldo.

So, even Japanese have to look up Kanji they don't understand? I am not alone in this than, there's still hope \o/
Yeah, some people when they play indie games and the game dev put too much kanji, the game dev is often seen as "pretentious", so I don't think it's a good thing to put too much kanji, even in books and writing.
Yup. Just like many English speakers when reading Shakespeare or other archaic language. Many people only know the words (or kanji) that they have heard before.
@@kiyopawn could it be deliberately inserted to go with the medieval theme? e.g like putting in olde englishe
@@Okatogurui i think its deliberately done to show how pretentious and trashy the hero is.
Hard kanji in manga and novels usually being covered by Furigana above it, still sometimes the author just put whatever kanji they want and made different reading just because it looks cool, happens pretty often with special attack name.
Good grief, I don't begrudge Korone *OR* you for trouble translating some of these words. Japanese uses like what, three separate alphabets? One of which is heavily context-dependent? You're an absolute legend for bothering to give us this weighty chunk of Korone!
It's not so much the fact that there's three sets of characters, it's that this game for some reason uses some obscure ones that you don't see often (or at all nowadays).
Most Japanese only know and need around half the kanji that are approved for general use give or take, and with modern word processing basically doing the thinking for you it's even less now than 25 years ago.
Could be this game was simply made by someone who reads a lot more than Korone and so knows more characters from heart.
@@Krawurxus I didn't consider that, but the way JShay translated it, the words he chose were definitely formal, obscure and/or college-level English words, so I dig it. Looked like the scumbag hero was giving himself fancy-pants airs.
Two of those alphabets are basically like upper/lower case so that's not really an issue, but kanji can indeed be a beast.
@@Krawurxus The reason this game chose so many difficult kanji was to satirize other JRPGs that do the same thing unironically.
@@ErebosGR In any event, it was the cause of some very pleasant hilarity.
I actually didn't pick up on her covertly looking up the difficult ones until JShay so brutally pointed it out to absolutely everyone 😂

Did Korone really named us as the scum hero? She's going to badmouth us, TSKR xD
Lol it's not even 2 minutes and Korone already found a kanji she couldn't read, relatable.
Awww the ending, that hero should get punished! Korone should take her yubiyubi
What does tskr mean?
@@aapzehrsteurer9000 Tskr is short for "tasukaru", which is slang for "Blessed!" or "incredibly appreciated!"

*Listener-kun finally gets a girlfriend*
Korone: I feel bad for her..
I've been waiting for this! o7
Korone playing kusoge is always a delight :D
Oh thats nice she named her character after her Listene-
*hero is a scumbag*
ahhh. classic Korone.
Hey, at least we conquered the world
I love that out of all the fucked up shit Listener does it is having a girlfriend that really pisses her off
wow watching these long segments translated make me appreciate korone's cuteness
Listener-kun had enough and decided to be more "efficient" about earning that red super chat and gacha money.
Long Korone clips are always a treat. As always, thank you for translating!
Expectations: This game.
Reality: The king instead sends his endless supply of Lvl. 100 guards to curbstomp the villain instead once the hero gives a hint of attitude.
He also keeps one Lvl. 100 guard in the castle to beat down the hero, take his smartphone before cheats can be enabled, and lock him in the dungeon.
Story ends with the Hero whining about his imprisonment, receiving beatings for his sass, and ironically hearing the guard occasionally say, "Hehe, sucks to suck."
Guard might even start dating Hero's girlfriend, too. At least he'll take the time to thank her for her cooking.
And he only gets to have a first nap!
Truly appreciate the lengthy translation vid! Thank you for all your hard work :D
This drastically improved my day, thanks a ton man.
Don’t wanna push you too much but if you find yourself able to dish out more of this long form content then please do.
2:35 is she thinking superchats come from nothing? Gotta earn money before sending it to her. I'm not interested in the bad economical situation of the Kingdom it's all about sending superchats!
thank you so much for the wonderful translation! i really love the way you subtitled her mispronunciations!
It's funny and a bit ironic that this little RPG Maker game has dialogue that requires Korone to basically play with a dictionary on her lap. Even the stuff that's not in kanji is pretty complex.
How is that in even the most remote way ironic?
@@-Devy- I assume because its a silly low budget game using complex high tier Kanji.
I'm pretty sure that's the point though.
The game is so 'poorly written' that even the Japanese have trouble understanding WTF is going on. Big kusoge vibe.

Wow i just watched her play two other games by this creator so i was surprised to see this one up just came up
21 minutes, my god man, thank you.
Best stream ever
Such a great job translating all that tough kanji that Korone definitely wasn't stopping and looking up! obliterates(/obfuscates) my Japanese vocabulary for sure, holy smokes
I love your translations!! There are so many words that I've never heard of so whenever I'm viewing your clips, I feel like my vocab expands more and more. Though I am a quadrilingual, my english isn't the best. So it's always so interesting to see how you translate and locolize the japanese phrases so creatively! Your skills are what I long for but can never achieve. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the incredibly kind words! I try my best, but I've still got a long way to go. Sometimes, a day or two after posting a translation, I'll go, "Darn it, I just thought of a better way to translate that one line"
21 minutes of translation? Wow, bless you translator for the efforts. ARIGATHANKS!!!!
Feels like im Watching live
Thanks!
Wow. Kanji is so difficult that an adult who has lived their whole life in japan has issues reading the words. I am now dreading learning more.
It's probably better to think of most kanji as more like words themselves than just another alphabet sometimes. Like even English speakers will run into complicated words they don't know the meaning of. Though it's a little worse in Japanese since you can't tell how a kanji is pronounced either(in games, some words will have the pronunciation above or below it in hiragana)
Also you say this like English is any better
@@1000drman I mean, in english you can at least go and ask someone "what does xyz mean?", since you can read it. You may not prounounce it correctly, but it should more often than not be enough for the other person to understand. You can read, and at least approximately pronounce a word that you don't know.
This is completely different in Japanese. If you don't know a kanji, you can't go and ask someone "what does xyz mean?", since you have no idea how it's even pronounced. You'd have to write the kanji you don't know to ask somebody about it.
Though as Asra said, sometimes you have furigana that help with pronounciation. But not always.
@@Asrashas You can't really say that too easily if you aren't native to English and talk with a language like japanese natively where they don't have xyz
@@1000drman Well yeah. But I'm not talking about English from a non-proficient perspective. I'm talking about English from a proficient perspective, versus Japanese from a proficient perspective.
If confronted with a word they don't know in their respective language, the English person can at least take a guess to the pronunciation, and be usually understandable, I think. While the Japanese person can ... simply not.
Even a person proficient in both languages will have the same problem. He can guess pronunciations of unknown words in English, but not of unknown kanji.
Saying that English is more difficult for non-native speakers than it is for native ones is .. well, obvious. That is true for every language, including japanese. That's not an argument in any direction, imo.
Also I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "where they don't have xyz". xyz in my text was just meant as a placeholder for an unknown word in the respective language. So an unknown English word for the English person, and an unknown Japanese word for the Japanese person.
Based hero

A lot of the kanji that Korone's struggling with are really uncommon
It'd be like if someone made a game in English and you randomly came across the word "variegated" or "histrionic".
It's not impossible that someone could use them but the odds of them coming up in conversation are so low...
Except for the word "hammer" 鉄槌; like she herself says, it's odd she didn't get that one XD
