True, I suppose I could've mentioned it. I'm surprised by how minute the price difference is considering the capabilities of the wifi version.

That fan screams luxury minus the cons at the end of the video and so cool to have a remote on the phone too, I bought a woo zoo globe fan at Costco and a video is coming soon once I do it.

Have you ever used a Vornado 783DC, their large stand circulator? If so, power-wise/air flow how does the Dreo 502S stack up against it?
I haven’t used a 783DC, but I believe that is a larger fan than the 502S, so it likely moves more air.

I wish that someday Dreo would make even higher quality fans that used metal or even a retro style, as most retro style fans have performance issues, and the Vornado Vfans have been reported to have motor/bearing issues, although I think the price range for these fans would be even higher
Unrelated: I came across a Japanese video of a shopping guide for fans (title is 【扇風機おすすめ】今年は収納&サーキュレーター代わりになる扇風機が主流！AC・DCの違いも含めてご紹介！【2024年最新】 ) and I am *very* jealous of what Japan gets vs here in North America (LOTS of quality fans, and is the standard)
That certainly would be cool! Considering how quickly Dreo's lineup of fans is growing, I wouldn't be too surprised if they explore the retro-modern fan territory in the future.
Japan sure did and still do have great fans! The quality and craftsmanship are really up there.

I also discovered that on the Japanese Wikipedia page for electric fans, the Japanese Industrial Standards actually set standards for how fans should perform under certain power consumptions and blade sizes. Wish there was a North American standard for that.

Pressing the oscillation mode button once while it's oscillating should stop it. Rapidly pressing the button will simply cycle through the oscillation angle settings.

To each their own! As a fellow enthusiast of vintage fans, I likely wouldn't buy one of these for myself either. But I wouldn't mind recommending it to folks who are looking for a new fan.

Can you adjust the oscillation swing and rate without the app just using the remote alone?
Without the app, the oscillation angle can be adjusted (30, 60, 120 degrees, etc), but it's just the standard symmetrical oscillation. The app gives you the asymmetrical oscillation feature. The speed at which the fan sweeps back and forth is fixed and can't be adjusted.

Aside from that, just out of curiosity, I was just curious if it's convenient for someone to carry and if there's a "whoosh mode" like one of those ceiling fans, namely the "Big Ass" ceiling fan. It actually does! The natural mode on this fan does the same thing, where the fan varies the speed to simulate a natural wind. It's only accessible through the app though. It's not the most convenient fan to carry since it doesn't have a handle but it's light enough that it's not much of an issue.
The visual anomalies you pointed out at 8:55, now neither of those will affect the air circulator's performance, but that doesn't matter, you payed for new..as in UNUSED, and that's exactly what you should be getting. They're passing off used goods as new goods and that's unacceptable, good opportunity to test their business ethics.
True, it’s purely cosmetic. I highly doubt it’s a used product though. Most likely it sustained the damage during the assembly or packaging process at the factory.
Do you recommend this fan for a room with no AC and with 1 sided window? Alernative options? Im currently using a Taotronics tower. Hawaii summer humid weather😂
I’d say it depends on the dimensions of the room. If it’s small (under ~10x10ft), then this would be fine, but it’d be underpowered for larger rooms. If you’re looking at Dreo products specifically, they also have larger models that should perform much better. This might be an important factor since the fan will be your primary source of cooling.

Nice! I'm sure it'll do a good job circulating the air. I personally would also go for the non-smart version if I were to purchase one myself. Perfectly fine for folks who don't need the app integration.
I bought one and waiting for it to arrive, it is as quiet as they say. All functions can be used with a remote control...without Wi-Fi? Thank you
Nice! Most essential features are available without the app. Speed control, oscillation, timer etc. The app will give you the extra “bells and whistles” on top of the basic controls, such as precise oscillation angle control, natural wind mode, and run schedule based on ambient temp.
These are some really neat looking fans. Still debating on wether to buy one of these or import a vornado from germany

What do you think of the GOVEE Smart Fans? Especially the 42"
I'm not too familiar with those fans, but they seem to be well received based on online reviews. I can't speak from personal experience though, as I haven't tried it myself.
Can anyone tell me the size of the bolt and washer lol I need to replace mine...TIA
Based on my measurement, the bolt is 5/16” in diameter and 1-3/4” long. The thread pitch appears to be 20 TPI, but I’m not certain as I don’t have a thread gauge.
How strong is the fan
It’s hard to convey the strength of the fan over a video since it’s also subjective. But the fan is powerful taking its quietness and compact size into consideration. There aren’t many similar-sized fans that will perform at this level.

Hmm it sounds like the bladeset is a factory defect. Dreo fans tend to be well balanced and vibration free. You could try reaching out to Dreo or exchange the fan if it’s a concern.

How does this fan compare to a normal 12-16 inch oscillating fan? Does it cool the room down better/shift more air around?
Purely airflow-wise, this fan moves more air than most 12-16” oscillating fans of today. It creates more of a concentrated, beam of air that travels far from the fan, whereas traditional oscillating fans tend to spread out the air that dissipates quicker. I’d say this does circulate the air around a room better, so if you use this fan with AC, it’ll do a better job of distributing the cool air throughout the space since it can project further with more force. But a traditional oscillating fan might feel more comfortable if you like a softer airflow right in front of the fan. An analogy is mixing water and car soap in a bucket by blasting with the jet vs. shower mode on a garden hose nozzle. Hope it helps!
@@TheSuperFanMan Thanks for the reply. I bought the Dreo 502s pedestal fan but will have to wait until tomorrow for it to arrive.. My bedroom gets stupidly hot with my gaming PC and g9 neo monitor giving off heat. I don't have A/C but hoping the dreo can move the air around enough to bring in cooler air from the hallway or something. I don't expect massive temp drops but hoping it'll be enough to make it more comfortable in here.
How do you like it? My room also doesn't have AC. @mike309saa
@@justin94block It doesn’t seem to cool the room much and might not be more effective than a regular fan at cooling people. I haven't tested it against a regular fan since mine broke. However, it does move air better, especially with its horizontal and vertical oscillation. My room is very hot due to my gaming PC and my ultrawide g9 neo monitor acting as a space heater, so it just pushes hot air around hence, not cooling my room down.
The fan is much quieter than a regular one, even at high speed. The adjustable oscillation range is a useful feature, and I appreciate the vertical oscillation. Being able to control it via phone or Alexa is a good too. I also like the natural mode because sometimes the constant speed of a regular fan can get irritating for me after a while and the natural mode makes it feel like a breeze with alternating speeds but only goes as fast as you set the speed to.
Overall, it works well keeping me cool in my hot room, but I can't definitively say it's better than a regular fan at doing that. I recommend it still though for its additional features alone compared to regular fans and depending on your circumstances, it may be more effective for you than it is for me but it still keeps me cool. I also haven't tried using it to move the hot air out of my room so maybe that'll work better.

There’s also a non-wifi PolyFan 502 (not 502S) version that’s available! Or the 502S can be used without being connected to the wifi. Completely understandable that some would prefer not to have the wifi connectivity.
Would you happen to know how to remove the fan blade on a Westinghouse 12PA2? I need to take my 1950s fan apart to lubricate some stuff. It squeaks and rattles and sounds like rocks when it is oscillating
I believe there is a set screw on the side of the hub that needs to be loosened. Afterwards, the blades should slide off the motor shaft.
@@TheSuperFanMan I tried loosening it and sliding the blades off, didn’t work. Should I try WD40 or something?

That’s likely the case. Old, dried up oil residue can bind the blade hub to the shaft. WD-40 should help. Spray and let it soak for a few hours at least and gently pull on the hub. I believe the blades are made of Micarta on that particular fan, so I’d suggest being extra careful when tugging on them.
@@TheSuperFanMan I just worked it out with a screwdriver, a pry bar, and WD40. I’m going to have to use heat to loosen the front housing screws because they’re rusted and seized. I got to cleaning around the back of the unit, then I got tired and put it all back together. Let’s just say the fan didn’t like being clean. So I’ll take it all back apart and actually grease everything and check some connections. The motor still works, I just have to get it spinning for high speed. Low and medium speed make the fan stall, they were working before. Just means I made more work for myself 😅
The shape of the blade where it wraps around the motor reminds me of some design I’ve seen before but I can’t place where exactly.
It looks quite aerodynamic and the blue color is cool.

I agree, this has to be one of the most aggresively aerodynamic fans I've ever worked with, even more than Vornado fans!

Allen wrenches are hex keys. This is a Phillips-head screwdriver with an angled handle.
