    I understand some people's concern for the wetlands down here in southern Louisiana. These men in the boats are from here, have many friends, relatives or themselves earn a living from these waters from fishing/oil field etc and are keenly aware that destroying these wetlands will take their livelihood away and they wouldn't be able to support themselves or family. The part people focus on is the vegetation and the boats destroying it. Please understand that the vegetation they are "destroying" is invasive and destroying the wetlands, choking waterways where water is severely restricted with the overgrowth causing the state to expend millions of dollars spraying these plants. Along with the state, fishermen and many others making a living from these wetlands lose millions in revenue directly related to the overgrowth. So relax, enjoy watching a cool boat, guys passing a good time on the bayou and by doing so getting rid of harmful vegetation in the process. A win/win for everybody. Nice mud boats y'all!

      Harikarikillboy2174 thanks! Anyone questioning why we do this simply needs to refer to a couple other videos I've made like the one from 8-13-17 where we had to clean out the main bayou. Invasive plants species grow and bind up all kinds of vegetation and make huge floats the eventually get sucked out of the lake and jam up in the bayou. When that happens the only people who can pass are people with boats like mine. We pulled out idk how many surface drives and outboards from the main bayou. There's two choices....either we cut it up and let it float out or the parish comes and sprays it and it's dead. I'd think that cutting it up and letting it float on to wherever it wants to go is much more acceptable than spraying and killing it just so it can sit on the bottom and fill in the lakes and canals.

      Shaun Rook 100% agree. I don't think many people responding negatively understand that not only is it costly to the state, that cost is transferred to everyone directly or indirectly via oil prices, seafood/fish prices and on and on. Not only that but the spraying may turn out years from now to negatively impact the wetlands more than they help. I'm sure not many know that some lakes in southern Louisiana have had to be assisted with drainage/circulation to keep the water moving to prevent stagnation (kinda funny most don't think of the bayou as a flowing body of water) y'all keep doing what you're doing, it looks fun as hell and them are nice boats!

      Im from south la near these guys, it doesnt bother me when they run thru the open vegetation but it bothers me “cutting ditchs” because thats the beginning of new erosion

      The wetlands we have left are diminishing quickly. Even though some of that vegetation is invasive, it's the only thing left that's holding the coastline together.

    Before the go devil was common, we had to use mud boats to come in and spray our trails to kill all the weeds every so often. Plus they would clean the trail out,throwing mud to the sides. However, for about 40 years we had 9.9 mercs that were perfect for running marsh trails, until the weeds took over. The go devils did us right though. As long as that prop is in mud or water,you’re moving. Whoever brought those damn plants should have had is butt whipped for what they did to southern waterways. Peace ✌️

    What kind of "Drive" unit are ya'll using? Surface Drive or true, through the Keel under the boat, inboard?

    • @shaunrook9774
      @shaunrook9774  6 лет назад +1

      Bill Pawley my boat is a true inboard. The swamp shark is a surface driven unit.

    • @billpawley2849
      @billpawley2849 6 лет назад +1

      How do you keep weed (and other aquatic growth) from tangling up the prop shaft? Living over here in SW Georgia, we have lots of Rocks, some weeds. Jet power is more common over this way, but, ya'lls mud motors are very interesting.

    • @shaunrook9774
      @shaunrook9774  6 лет назад +1

      Bill Pawley never had an issue with weeds getting tangled in the prop. We run 2 blade props and u have plenty of horsepower pushing it around. With an inboard it’s more stuff getting caught by the rudder than the prop.

    • @billpawley2849
      @billpawley2849 6 лет назад

      Must have some pretty thick bottoms then. Ever get hung up on a stump or Cypress Knee? We have some swamp here and I have been "High Centered" a time or two. Always worried about poking a hole through the bottom of my 1860 Lowe. But, to get to some of the better, untapped, fishing spots, it is a risk I sometimes take.

    • @shaunrook9774
      @shaunrook9774  6 лет назад +2

      We normally run 3/16" or 1/4" bottoms. You can get hung up on cypress knees and logs. The 350 has the power to push over that stuff or you can rock it off.

      lee moore and any wildlife with it , and still get can get stuck , this makes absolutely no sense to me the boat and the driver .

    • @shaunrook9774
      @shaunrook9774  7 лет назад +7

      lee moore this is inland vegetation. It's mostly invasive species of grass that plague this lake. This is not wetlands.

    • @leem9886
      @leem9886 7 лет назад +1

      Shaun Rook don't get me wrong, it's cool as fuck... and great video... just does a lot of damage

    • @shaunrook9774
      @shaunrook9774  7 лет назад +3

      lee moore like I said it's inland marsh. If we don't cut it up regularly it gets so bad we loose access to the lake. The parish sprays the lake every year anyhow to kill everything we are running over.

    • @PROUSCONSTITUTION
      @PROUSCONSTITUTION 7 лет назад

      Glad to hear they allow this on this marsh because I was also worried about the destruction and the repercussions. I really want one of these drives. What does a setup cost?

    • @coonassliving8291
      @coonassliving8291 6 лет назад +7

      Wild Timber Destroying the plants is the whole point. If we don’t do it the plants will suck all the oxygen out killing the fish or clogs up the area to the point it kills the fish from them not being able to get out. You kill the fish you kill the otters, alligators, marsh birds, crawfish, just about everything living there. Or you could just wait for the parish to come out and spray poison on all of it killing everything anyway. Pick your choice.
