    Great video! I have a question, me and my wife are looking to to buy a property to do BTL, we both have our 9-5 jobs, when we carry out self assessments do we both have to sign up individually to do our self-assessments and just split the rental income 50/50 or can we do 1 self assessment for the both of us?
    Thanks

      Each person that has taxable earnings, not under PAYE I.e. property will need to submit a tax return. You may want to speak with a tax advisor to see how the property income should be split between you to be become tax efficient.

    Every time I try to register for self assessment it tries to make me create a new government gateway ID, even though I already have one which I am already logged into! I'm just going round in circles on the website. Do you know why this is happening?

    • @UK-Property-Tax-Accountants
      @UK-Property-Tax-Accountants  3 года назад +1

      Sadly I do not use the government gateways for tax returns. You may need to call them to see how this may be resolved.

      I'm having same issue. I could not access my tax account using gateway code as I do not have enough verification info for it so i had to go the verify route so i could use my driving licence instead of passport which has expired but it seems to insist on gateway code for self assessment and won't let me do it...not sure what to do. Why does it have to be so bloody awkward?!?!?!

      If it's any consolation, you are in the company of many who have to use this excruciating bad system.
      Government Gateway and it's even worse cousin, Gov.UK Verify seem to have been set up to make your life a misery.
      I spent months trying to get through Verify, just to pay them small amounts of tax.
      Verify was quietly dumped by HMRC on 1st April 2022.
      This can only spell trouble for HMRC individuals trying to register for online tax accounts and self-assessment.
      The whole identity thing for government services is a total mess.
      Verify alone cost £130-million to develop, was years late, and nobody likes it.
      A typical government conceived IT project.
      And of course, not to mention that other triumph, the Post Office Horizon system.

    Thank you for the helpful video. I worked full time, but have rental income and a company that is my side business that is in the lost. Do I still need to file self assessment please? Thank you.

      I would advise yes. That way you can tell HMRC your losses to carry forward to offset future profits

    Can I be self-employed and charge people for helping to file their self-assessment? Or it has to be done through an accountancy firm?

    • @UK-Property-Tax-Accountants
      @UK-Property-Tax-Accountants  2 года назад

      You can provide services to help people file their subsystem touch turns with no issues. At the end of the day you’re providing services. It is up to you whether you charge through your personal self-assessment or a limited company
