    I think it was Sir Ernest Harrison that said anyone worth the job would be contracting, or words along those line. I have no idea why a train driver thinks he/she/it, is worth more than a nurse, that is one for the respective unions to fight out, but my gut feels is if a rail worker thinks driving a train is a skilled job they should look at how fast a 3 year old with no knowledge of how to spell can master a bicycle in a matter of a week or so. I think it comes down to greed and I also think Sadiq Khan has a large portion of blame by effectively forcing the less well off onto a transport system that just does not work and compromises the lives of the publics ability to get around London. It is not just the London thing, more about this senseless attitude some mayors have

    • @thecornedbeefcouncil9792
      @thecornedbeefcouncil9792 3 месяца назад

      No.
      Not all train drivers are currently on £60k, people have heard the average salary figures and used this as a stick to beat train drivers with. Just because most of them earn a decent wage and have worked hard to get themselves that role it doesn’t mean that their salaries should just stand still whilst everyone else in the country catches up. If people want that salary and think they can do the job then apply, stats show over 95% don’t get through the entry assessments.

    £65k is the average salary for a train driver. Rail companies should train up monkeys to drive the trains instead. A bus driver has a more difficult job and gets paid no where near £65k. Train drivers are delusional to believe that their skill set deserves this pay level. Rail companies need to innovate or train their way out of this blackmail by existing drivers.

    i was a recent convert to commuting by rail and found it a revelation. .now thanks to the unions im back in the car. to say im peed off with people on well over double my income wanting more just because they havent had a rise for a while . would be putting it mildly. its like going back to the days of Red Robbo at leyland gobbing off while the company slowly collapses .i work in an industry where most are porly paid skilled workers and pay rises might happen once a decade(yes really) but somehow we can live on what we get so what makes railworkers a special case?

    Mick Whelan gets paid £151,000 pounds a year, the train drivers are asking for 20k more than I get paid, the cost of a train ticket needs to go down not up. I haven't had a pay rise, the country hasn't had a pay rise. deal with it!

    65k a year for a train driver?? This is insanely good salary. Research technicians who do the most difficult and important research for world-class UK universities even won't earn half of 65k annually. Clinical scientists in NHS, who usually have a PhD in life science or MBBCh in addition to a 3.5 years on the job training with an additional professional master degree would only earn half of 65k per year.
