Been using this solution to convert a sanke into a pressure kegmenter. I use a floating dip tube to pull the fermented beer off into a 5gal keg. Great vid CH.
Great tip!
Any problems cleaning it after? Do you use a special tool?
@@JeremyLord I clean it right away by rinsing with a hose and dumping the yeast. then I put about a half gallon of water in and do a little keg slosh dance which knocks out most of the gunk. After that I just use some scentless oxy clean and fill it up the whole way with water while it’s on my workbench. After a couple of days I use my auto-siphon to drain it. It’s a process but I love being able to ferment lager at basement temps while I can do a second beer fermentation in my temp chamber.
@@hubb412 I'm thinking about picking up a couple of these for fermenting/serving. Does the hose barb come apart so it can be cleaned? Also, it looks like these keg posts are the type that require a gasket to seal right?
Great idea mate.
Wow, thanks for naming me in the video! Glad that idea worked out for you. Try using that keg as a fermenter, #11 stopper and an airlock
it's too big for my kegerator, and plus I like the adapter much better. Cheers!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE oh I meant with it out of the kegerator to ferment in so you don't have to transfer to it. Im interested in seeing how the sanke keg and conversion will work out in your kegerator though. I went the keezer route due to having a deep freezer on hand and not in use, so I probably can't put a sanke keg in my keezer.
I fuckin love this channel, it's a LOT of knowledge and experience you guys are giving all of us baby-brewers, punctuated with hilarious ass-hattery and horrible jokes, I fuckin dig it. 🤣
Yeah new MBC was Epic!! Definitely going to be looking into this setup for my 10g brews in the future
Thx for always supporting Hector!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE have to man, after almost a 10 yr brew slump your videos have educated me further and have gotten me excited to brew again.
you made my day with that, cheers braj!
HB4L you guys are my favorite home brew channel, you guys always keep me interested, keep up the good work!!!
thx for the kind words MM!
Rad!!! This is now on my radar, along with finding a woodpecker on an aluminum telephone pole…
come on the hoppy hour tomorrow night!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE I wish I could, got a couple of things going on tomorrow at that time though:/
@@ElementaryBrewingCo all good next time!
I've been in so many live chats that I'm now in the videos, an excellent video as always braj!
Thx for the support CG!
the very first keg I got was Sanke because I just dove into kegging without the info. I couldve kept that 8g keg and converted if I had this video for reference. Cheers Braj's for continuing to teach the community!
I hope your living good Jus! Cheers braj!
Dood, most epic MBC yet! Great vid as always.
Thanks a ton!
Glad for this back catalogue 🤙🏻
Woah, this is awesome!! I have a sixtel sanke that my friend gave me and haven't really figured out how to make it work - until now! Legendary MBC!!
top of the morning braj!
Should be able to skip the hose clamp as the hose isn't under pressure but inside the pressure. Pulling beer through it will put it under a vacuum trying to push it on to the barb.
Another great vid CH, and giving the people what they want, MBC's & corny keg conversion. I've been waiting for this one, so I speak for all the people when I say, Thank You! lol....
PS. That Kimmy Gibler IPA sounds dank....
hopefully see you tonight braj!
Aussie Aussie Aussie! You guys rock.
trevor is the man!
This is game changing for the home brewing industry especially with the ultra kviek
yeah all in one 10 gallon uni tank for under $100
Happy MMMMMMBCCCCC from the UK HB4L, love you guys, doing what i can to spread the homebrew word over here. Love from a braj
Cheers from San Diego braj!
Use a screwdriver through the hole of the clamp to get more leverage.
Always good to learn new tricks and tips, cheers mate.
Cheers Braj!
After watching a bunch of your vids I've been on the hunt for a grain mill. Managed to snag one off craigslist last night for $20. Also picked up a couple of kegs, regulators, taps, and a full co2 canister for about $120. Now I just need a cheap fridge and I'm all set for kegging. Time to watch a bunch of H4L corny keg restoration vids.
ur killing it steve!
Nice Boise Brewing Is in my home town!!! Nice T braj! 🔥
f yeah, cheers Naka!
New MBC clip was awesome. I have that same setup on three 7 gallon sanke kegs. I put floating dip tube on them. Haven't had any issues with them so far.
yeah with a floating dip tube.. it's the best diy fermenter / unitank on the planet
Fark that intro beautiful !💪🏻🏆🍻
Glad you like it!
Next week we cover how to clean a sanke keg.
ha, i'd throw water in there and just boil it
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE That's not a bad idea!
Great trick!
And good to have MBC back!
cheers Trippen!
Braj! I caught that small clip of Metroid II (Gameboy) remix. You know I'm here to identify obscure music lol.
dude! you caught! Return of samus on game boy!
advanced shti! love the vlog style.
I use one of these to transfer lambics or other aged sours. I use the sanke keg to beer blend.
Great video per usual, ima try this whenever I get a larger kegerator
i love that you've been commenting on our channel since day 1!! chills Dill!
the pulp fiction comments golden haha
Love it , butttt! There is room for lots of improvements.
Working on it!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE I'm currently working on my own systems for brewing/keg, 3 party kegs and 7 cola kegs, using 2 party kegs for brewing and one for the fridge, I bought my own 14 gallon stainless fermenter and grinding mill, I do my own metal work, stainless welding ect..., I do love to watch your show, down to earth, you guys are hilarious, Can I still say you guys? Keep up the great work.
Thx for the nice words cheers MM!
Wow that looked really easy. Are you going to ferment in it or just serve out of it?
great question! Stay tuned for the hoppy hour tomorrow night!
I was gifted and sankey keg and followed this video step by step. The only issue I had was getting the tri-clamp connected. It was super tight due to the lip of the keg, gasket and spear. I had to extend the tightening nut almost all the way and compress the clamp to get the bolt over the clamp. I had to do this a few times because the gasket would push out. I did pressurize the keg and it didnt leak, but it does make me nervous.
You got this!
Should totally add a ball lock floating ball for corney keg to not get trub from bottom, but I dig it!
yeah we just went off with whatever came in the adapter box, but that's a great idea! Cheers!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Cheers! :D
What is PRB? Or whatever he says the third inlet is for
Epic video 🍻
What are you doing tomorrow night?
Brilliant intro...... brilliant meat .... brilliant all round!!!
thx for the love NK!
I've subscribed after that wood pecker joke !
:)
How in the hell have I never found your channel before. You guys are awesome. The MBC was epic. Great vid. I will need to go back and start watching to get caught up. Keep the content coming.
Welcome aboard!
No floating dip tube??
Hi,can you tell me where I can purchase this kit? I’m in Scotland/the Uk,TIA
@5:30 Tip that beast on the side when releasing the pressure (keeps the dip tube out of the little bit in the bottom).
Good call!
Great video. Loved the part about not stealing kegs that was freaking hilarious! 🍺
Cheers Rob!
Brrrraaaaajjjjjj! Love the new MBC with doc and goku. Definitely the most legitness MBC of all time. How can you top the epicness of that? Guess we will all tune in to find out
Thx for the kinds words braj!
I was worried that my CIP ball for keg cleaning wouldn't fit in the mouth opening of a sankey, but I tested that by pulling the center from one today and my 1/2 NPT CIP ball indeed fits...with a little room to spare. Cheers.
Glad that worked out!
Nice! Didn't know it was doable to convert a sanke like that.. cool! I did just score a nitro system on FB marketplace... wasn't supercheap and the bottle is still 100% nitro since it was used for coffee, but I did get a nice Micromatic Stout faucet and saved a bit overall compared to buying it new.
I still consider that success! Cheers braj!
Would a "clunk" or weight on the bottom of the tank help?liken a a weedeater?
Yeah get any food grade weight
Great MBC, love you too CH
cheers tone!
Use an 8mm socket on hose clamps. Doesn't slip off like a flathead.
lay keg on the side and put a 3/8" deep socket on top ball and use wrench or screw driver as a leaver to push ball in - to release pressure without worrying about liquid
that little slot on top where snap ring is, insert screwdriver in there and push the snap ring out
Solid advice! Cheers Dima
Dude braj, you make the most bestest videos. 👍💛🍺🍺🍺🍺
Cheers DJ!
Essentially couldn't I just use the coupler from my kegerator with the corny keg adapters installed on it? Same concept right? Only downfall would be having no eyes on the inside for cleaning.
I have that spare coupler since I converted my kegerator to corny haha
That’s a great gadget for hacking the sankeys , cheers Braj 🍻🍻🤙🏼
Shout out to Kevin Fidler!
That was legitness… 🍺🍺🍺
Cheers DB!
Sick video. That's a great way to get a bigger keg for cheap
It sure is!
does it matter if there is headspace? 10 gallons of beer in a 15.5 gallon keg? Just purge it with CO2 to get the oxygen out?
yeah just purge. Headspace isn't a problem. There's always going to be some
I was thinking of using these as fermenters for 10 gallon batches. What do you think?
this dude by default sounds like Nich Cage lol
haha i get that all the time
Nice!!
How do you clean the keg? My first time doing any of this
Search “how to clean a keg”
It would be even better and easier if they made ball lock posts that just screwed on to the sanke tap.
I agree 100%
They do make sankey keg Taps for kegs all the time. Just unscrew the barb attachments and screw on ball lock adapters instead. Less than $20 for both adapters and you’re done
Next time, do the long cut of the MBC! Liking the tri clamps!
keep the channel going james!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Yep, hopefully something new by the end of the weekend!
Fits like oj Simpsons glove. Or wait .I mean michael jacksons.or or wait .Batemans. but seriously I like it I've got a couple old 1/4 kegs . Why didn't you use a floating dip tube? That's funny I used to drink at new Belgium in the 90s.
Add a floating tube and a spunding valve and you’ll have a 10 gal pressure fermenter
and that's prob the best fermenter of all time!
Brajlord? Will the floating ball dip tube fit in the hole?? Length of the fill tube?? FYI This vid gave me wood. Looks like I can use this to pressure-ferment bigger batches??? ( since I was limited to 4G pressure fermentation in Corneys - no head space - was doing 2 4G batches - and made a mess). Still rubbing my eyes in dis-belief. Been crushing aluminum cans to save up for all rounder but this is better than XMas in Aug !!
floating dip would def fit!
Sankey boi
when you coming back!
"Say whhhhen..."
Any issues with those silicon hose not having any weight at the tip to keep it at the bottom?
None!
Or you could just get a coupler from Kegland that fits that type of keg with ball locks
is it too big that it won't fit in a kegerator?
Are those posts able to be removed or do they have a version for pin lock posts?
- I may be the last pin lock brewer but I'm sticking to my guns
cheers!
Great vid.!
Thank you RP!
Hell yeah! 👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🍺🍺🍺🍺
pizza port in 10!
Just checking.. are you SURE you don’t want to say anything? Haha
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE nope. 😂
Hahah epic opening 🤣 🍻🍻
Cheers Hero!
Just picked up 1/4 slim keg for free so this great hack will come out to the price of the conversion kit.
Nice!
I think I speak for all of us... The grass looks pretty fuckin' green on your side, braj
step aside martha stewart!
What about just cutting a hole in the top and putting in a corny keg lid itself? The you could clean much better inside, no?
That's a serious job that would require welding
The 2nd hand market in Savannah SUCK the BIG ones. You can't find anything on craigslist, I found out when I watched your vids on grain mills and had to buy new.
oh snap! where's savannah?
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Coastal Georgia Braj, East Coast scenery. You have to drive 4 hours to Atlanta just for a shot at that sweet sweet 2nd hand stuff but even then it's limited. People who get into brewing generally stay into brewing, those who get out give up too soon to have decent equipment. It's like the worst catch 22 known to man. I was looking for a nice 15 gallon banger to convert, sadly there were none to be found. I'll keep my eyes peeled. I don't need it yet but you make great points on another vid about scaling up to make the hobby more affordable.
Can someone please explain to a novice why you would do this in the first place? I have a Sankey Keg with Sankey tap why would one want to convert it?
So you can clean it and reuse it
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE , after spending about three hours trying to clean the spear in my Sanke and put it back together I fully understand what you mean now.
@@jdhitshine I'm proud you of you Joe!
THAT was legitness
Thx for watching JS!

Great.... Now I have to find 10 gallon Sankes!
??? Just snag 15.5 half barrelss
Too easy!
Or you could buy a Sanke coupler
There's a lot of things you can buy. You just gotta make sure it fits!
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGG!!!!!!!
i love ugg boots too!

That's right!
So next video, how to clean and sanitize the sanke keg. So you know for sure it’s good and ready to go.
Great suggestion!

MBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yezzzir
Just buy a full keg from BevMo and keep it!
That's actually pretty brilliant!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE cheers mate! I was also gonna say that the black gaskets might be better for cold-side, silicone is heatproof but EPDM is more caustic resistant

back on top!
