- Hank Green, a legendary RUclipsr, stops by to talk about how creators are reacting to the prospect of a ban on TikTok, and about how he’s navigating an increasingly fragmented online environment. Then, we asked listeners to tell us about the wildest ways they have been using artificial intelligence at work. This week, we bring you their stories. And finally, deep fakes are coming to Main Street: We’ll tell you the story of how they caused turmoil in a Maryland high school and what, if anything, can be done to fight them.

I started on RUclips about the same time Hank did and I found myself frantically nodding my head in agreement during the interview. I would just like to add that platform diversification is not just for "influencers" these days. Not only can these platforms like TikTok die but they can delete your account for any reason or no reason. Since many people's identity is their social media identity, losing an account can spin them into depression. If someone has a social media account for their hobby/passion, they better have a website with all the same information.
Nobody's identity should be their social media identity. That's a person already starting out depressed.
That’s why I consider websites and newsletters more reliable in the long run.
Kevin only has ONE box? He's so young! Also, Colin is training that AI to replace him for cheap when the client fires him.
45:44 You raise a critical point about AI bias. Even if the AI itself isn't biased, the data it's trained on might be. We need to be aware of this potential bias to ensure fair evaluation for everyone. The goal is to assess knowledge and ability, not race or ethnicity.
35:37 that's the risk. That's why I believe that incorporating AI into your workflow won't necessarily save your job long-term. You just turn yourself into a middleman, and middlemen get cut out.
36:02 it is dependent on how much of your job it can do. At that point, you're just showing your employer exactly how to automate your job.
Love the show AND please please you NEED to include the outro on RUclips!
It is not at all a first amendment issue. Non-US companies are not protected by the first amendment. It also will still exist if they sell it.

lol indeed, I have 2 boxes worth of cords that date back all the way to the serial cable days.
The thing with shorts/tiktoks is because it so short, that i feel like it cheapens the views, like sure there could be people that use shorts to watch a channel's longer videos, but theres no way to distinguish that from the people who are mindlessly scrolling or have walked away to do something and the phone gets stuck on a random live so it gets more views. Views dont equate to value when it comes to shorts.
This Rick person hopefully asked for permission to upload these people's data to a bot! I thought you two were going to mention that. It would have been okay if Rick just uploaded the modified no real names to simulate these scenarios.
Thank god its Friday. Btw I’m a woman of a certain age with a cord box.
Exactly!

Why can’t I toss my ancient SCSIs? Is it a misguided sentimentality?

Thank you, guys, for another episode💚
Just how DO we move from AI resulting in everyone working harder because they are simply given more to do in their working day, to a point where we use it to help us do less? History suggests this is unlikely to happen until AI takes over completely, making me think that maybe e/accs have a point: it seems it is a zero sum game. Thanks for an interesting show. By the way, in other news, Ukraine has appointed an AI foreign ministry spokesperson (I first read it as foreign minister, but I imagine government ministers will be the last to lose their jobs?), which appears to be an interesting development. I wonder if the person they used as a model for her will become a target for the Russians?
35:55 that’s why you don’t tell anyone you are using AI products.
I love Hank ❤

Ban? Why would China not sell it?
They 100% own it, why sell something you like. The wording they have used in all of their responses, clearly indicates their intention to use the platform themselves.
That's partially why it's under attack.
Because China doesn't own it, Bytedance does.
The idea of tiktok going away is a very good one. I have very strong concerns about content creators who value their tiktok careers over the safety of their country. The Founding Fathers could not have foreseen social media and how First Amendment rights are twisted into a tool against general Democracy. "First Amendment" is a phrase Green should never utter until he figures out that placing his desire for more buxx is not a greater good and placing that desire over the general going is a very destructive thing.
Green thinks that the problems with TikTok and other social media can be solved without banning them. If you think the only way to solve things is a ban, that's fine but attacking Green's character is totally unnecessary especially since the ban has already passed so you're getting exactly what you want. You shouldn't let the need to have people agree with you override basic politeness and the assumption of good and moral intentions.
@@SilkCrown in times like these, those who cling to the middle of the road get run over. Mr. Greene is free to think whatever he wants. Some people thought advising others to inject bleach to fight Covid was a good idea. Not everyone has character worth kowtowing to.
Tiktok is the only one on the chopping board because it is the only platform which doesn't have the US government's fingers wedged deeply down its throat which means it is not a propaganda apparatus like all of the others are.
The US Gov is deeply fearful of the allowance of free transmission of information over the internet which is dominantly controlled by the US, as was planned by DARPA during its creation.
AI got into my brain 🤯
I used Suno to write a theme song for our architectural project. I gave some details about the project to and Suno came up with 2 verse 1 chorus 1.5 minute long song that I can’t get out of my head. I think it is super catchy hit, or maybe because it resonates so strongly with me ( I wrote a prompt, I put in details of a project that matter to me) but I can’t get it out of my head. I tried meditating but it barely helps. It reminded me a Monthy Pythons “Deadly Joke” sketch where people die of laughter so hard 😆😆😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤪😵💀🪦
