To anyone: If your cotter pins are slipping through the slots on the end plates, then insert the pins into the small loop on the strap, which is in between the two white lines. I repeat, it is in between the two white lines. This is where it's designed to go. If you don't insert it into the loop in between the white lines, then the cotter pin will eventually slip through the slot on the end plate, like while you're on stage. So, install it correctly and then it will work as advertised.
I have found no merit in having more than 24 wires on a snare. I bought a 1950 Gretsch Broadkaster snare drum and there was a 42 wire snare on it from the previous owner. I compared the 42 wire snares with 20 and 24. I went with the 24 in the end because the drum had the best balance of sound with less wires.Thank you Rob for your compare video. More wires means more symp buzz and less drum sound. I like the Custom Pro best. I like a little buzz.
@RobBeatdownBrown Dude, congrats on your improved health! You sound and seem so much happier in your latter videos! Your information you share is amazing too.
Hey Rob, is this first set you put on a 24 strand? Thanks. I need to buy some. I wish I had found your channel first. It would have saved me a lot of confusion and anxiety. Thanks to Santa I am now drum tech to my 11 year old son. I am a "Gitar" player though, I need help!
hey rob, I´m currently thinking of switching my snare wires. but the Thing that I don´t get is what´s the difference in 20 strands and 24 or steel and brass snare wires? does that make a big difference in the Sound?
Yea once i figured out it had to go between the two white lines not the first space its works great so i would say its the best snare i ever used thanks
It may be due to not centering the cotter pin. An equal amount of the pin should stick out on both sides of the strap. If not, then it won't be centered on the end plate. The pin should sit perfectly in the molded area surrounding the slots on the end plates. Also, the flat part should be the part that's touching the plates as well. Another possibility is due to not inserting the pin into the designated hole on the straps, which is in between the two white lines near the ends of the straps.
Puresound wires are worth the extra $15. Alot of drummers dont understand that snare wires are just as important as your choice of heads when it comes to snare sound. ANY snare I get, I always change stock heads and wires before I play the gig or session.
This could easily be an example of how proper tuning can make an $80 snare sound wicked, along with your technique of course. I like the pure sound and I have tried the custom which I have to replace since I sold the drum it was on but still use the Equalizers on my piccolo.Nice video, Defiantly checking out the rest of them as well. Cheers
Oh awesome. Yeah, their instructions could be a lot better. They say nothing about how or where to insert the cotter pin in the installation instructions. Instead, they first mentioned it way at the bottom in step number 2 in the Speed Mounting Instructions. I mean, they should know that most people are going to say, "I don't need those instructions because once I install them, I'll know the rest". I'm going to send them an e-mail about this. Anyway, I'm very glad that you got it working!
Rob I have a question about this...I recently bought a modern Ludwig Supraphonic 402 and was wondering in your opinion would any of these puresound make a difference than the stock snares that came on my snare. Being that this is already a great snare I was just curious
Hey Rob! Do you happen to know the notes to which your snare is tuned to? It sounds incredible! Or did you follow the system that you spoke of in your snare tuning video?
I don't worry about notes or pitches when I tune my snares, man. So I couldn't tell ya what note it's at. I tune all my snares the same way, just as shown in my tuning video. Takes about two minutes. Just grab two keys, start with the bottom head, tune it nice and tight without choking it. Then tune the top and just hit it until it makes you say 'Awwwww yeeah'. :)
That's the difference. Brass is a very bright and lively metal. I don't know if you've ever played a tambourine with steel jingles, then picked one up with brass jingles, but you'll notice a big diff. Brass tambos cut much more. So yea. Grab some steel Custom Pros and you should be happy.

Nice video! I really like the sound of the Custom Pros. How many strands are there on the one you tested?

i changed my Snare drumheads to Powerstroke batter and Ambassador Reso + Puresound Custom Wires and it sounds like a high class pro snare
what ply is the reso? or just a normal ambassador?
Yelawolf probably an ambassador snare side resonant head
Simon B. An Ambassador Hazy head most likely
Just installed one on my friend's snare, now i don't want to return the snare...
Great chops man!

Well i would actually recommend pure sound. They made my snare sound so much greater than before. I risky recommend them

I'm going to try a set on my new Sonor Select 14 X 6.5 snare

Did you say the snare was a Sonic?

whats the different between steel and brass custom pro? i have brass and its too bright for me =(

can i with steel pro become warmer tone? is the different so big?
should i buy steel with 16 strands for my black panther blade ( steel snare 14x5.5) thanks a lot.
safet isović I can't speak for him, but I've used Puresound Custom Pro 20 strand wires (steel) for a long time, and they've been amazing for me.
try the 30's, they're sweet!!
Ha nevermind my last reply, looks like you got it XD
i love u man!!!!
