YOU MUST have to listen to the studio version, when the album came and i listened for the first time, the song and Till's voice scared me, I never heard Till's voice like that. It is simply amazing...
An eiderdown is a cross between a heavy blanket and a duvet. It''s feather-filled usually with duck or goose down. My grandparents had some. The studio album version of the song is chilling, absolutely harrowing. the way that Till sings the chorus leaves you in no doubt as to how much the child has been mentally damaged by what he's seen. Sent chills down my spine when I first heard it.
I apologize for being nitpicky, but an eiderdown duvet is filled with down from the eider duck (so not Just any duck or goose feathers). The down is very labor intensive to source and clean which also makes the duvets very expensive. They are definetily like a cross between a heavy blanket and duvet though, as the down makes it really light and warm (thoguh it cools you down during the summer, so you avoid overheating).
I remember seeing this song at milton keynes in the uk, and I delivered beer to pubs at the time, the following monday i was delivering to milton keynes of all places.
All the metal heads drank the pubs dry, but most of the landlords only mentioned this song, "rammstein, is that the band that set a pram on fire with a baby in it"

I just discoverd your channel and already watched about 5 or 6 of your reactions in a row.. very good content.. You really spend some time not just listening the song but trying to understand and interpretate the meaning of the lyrics with no rush.. thats rare on YT... keep on the good work men! Das war mal wieder ein sehr gutes reaction video von einem Rammstein Song !!! Du gibst dir immer sehr große Mühe die Texte auch zu verstehen. Dies mag ich immer an deinen Videos. This is dark!
When I heard the song for the first time from the new album, I got goosebumps when Till started screaming. This change of mood doesn't come across so well in concert performance.
I always interpreted the doll as being the substitute. For his sister who took care of him at first, and being angry with her for locking him in, while she got up to the things he did not want her to do. It did not make him feel good being mad at his sister while she took care of him, because she did take care of him. Then the sister gets killed, and he snaps, and gets out, and kills the people who took out his only caregiver. It makes him feels good to let out the anger, even happy about killing them so he can finally be true to his feelings.
I thought I was the only one who thought the second time the doll is named it's not actually the doll but the person/people who murdered the protagonist's sister.
For me it didn't make sense for them to destroy the doll for a second time and have opposite sensations about it. For me it was: the protagonist actually destroying the doll and still feeling bad, but then they get to chop their sister's killer head off and then they felt that relief out of revenge, so they now actually feel good about it.
This is the darkest? Maybe or Maybe not.... listen to Wiener Blut :)
One of the darkest songs I've heard. Hearing Tills voice in the chorus when I first heard it gave me chills. Still does. Favorite song off that album.

About the translation:
Generally and in this song, Puppe means doll. But the words have a different range of meaning in English and German and are used differently, so as almost always a word-by-word translation does not work for every context. For example Handpuppe is a hand puppet (not hand doll); an puppet state translates as Marionettenstaat (Puppenstaat would be totally wrong).
I am liking the fact that you dive deeper into the lyrics and try to understand them. You got my abo and my likes.
Maybe the destruction of the doll is a metaphor for the destruction of the child's innocence/security

Eiderdown is like the feathers in your bedding. It's hard to explain in English. They mean the duvet you use to cover yourself. This is filled with feathers. And this is the eiderdown.

I mean Rammstein's song have multiple meaning but i always thought listen to the part when her little brother chopped the doll head off it could be more sinister a metaphor of his sister son or daughter rather than just a doll it makes sense if you think about it knowing till I'm not completely off in my theory.

May be this explanation is way too simple - but it seems quite logical to me: Whenever sister goes to work, brother gets the doll. Thus in his childish mind work equals doll. Now work kills sister, consequently brother kills doll because there is nothing else left to direct his anger at.
Daunenbett means "blanket"

"Puppe" means doll. Maybe his sister is in this song not really his sister, but his mother? Due to the line of work that she got unwillingly pregnant at a young age and told his son, that she is "only" his sister...?
